NZ On Air Announces New Touring Support For Local Musicians

NZ On Air, with support from the NZ Music Commission, is proud to announce a new initiative to aid Aotearoa's music scene: the New Music Project Touring fund. This pilot fund is designed to help local artists take their music on the road, connecting with audiences across the motu through live performances to promote their album or EP release. The New Music Project Touring initiative will provide between $10,000 and $50,000 per successful application, depending on the scale of the tour, to support a headline national tour for an NZ On Air New Music Project-funded album or EP. A total of $500,000 will be available in this first pilot round. 'Live performance is a vital part of how audiences connect with music,' says NZ On Air Head of Music, Teresa Patterson. 'This initiative recognises the importance of touring to promote a new body of work, as well as building fanbases and audiences. We're excited to help more audiences across Aotearoa experience the incredible music being made right here.' The funding is open to artists who have received NZ On Air New Music Project (NMP) funding and have not yet released their project or announced a tour. It will cover a range of touring costs including transport, accommodation, marketing, production, venue hire and session musician fees. 'NMP funding supports the creation, release and promotion of new music and this initiative will support the live promotion of that music. We have been told by the music community that the cost of touring has become prohibitive, as it's a major financial undertaking with a lot of risk. This funding will help bridge the gap between recording and releasing music and reaching audiences.' The New Music Project Touring fund is led by NZ On Air and supported by the NZ Music Commission, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening Aotearoa's music ecosystem. 'Live performance is an incredibly important part of building an audience for artists, so it is great that NZ On Air has committed these funds to help artists promote their recordings. This pilot programme will really help to maximise the promotion and grow audiences across Aotearoa for New Music Project recipients,' says Cath Andersen, Chief Executive of the NZ Music Commission. Artist manager Pippa Ryan-Kidd says that being able to add more ways for the industry to build visibility for new music releases is a great initiative. "In Aotearoa, our musicians are privileged to have opportunity to access funding through our various music industry bodies. This funding can allow for creation, promotion and the overall visibility of our music in Aotearoa today. This visibility is vitally important in today's market where global platforms dominate. We are incredibly grateful for these opportunities, and the New Music Project Programme is an important goal for many artists.'

Nmplol and Kattpaccino Twitch controversy explained

(Image via Reddit) A recent controversy surrounding Twitch streamers Katie 'Kattpaccino' and Nick 'Nmplol' has been surfacing all over social media platforms. They have become the center of heated controversies after a serious allegation was made by Kattpaccino regarding the behavior of Nmplol during a live stream. Her remarks quickly escalated and led to backlash, reports to authorities, and defences from Nmplol's fellow creators. Here is the entire breakdown of what happened. Kattpaccino's controversial comments that led to social media backlash During one of Just Chatting streams of Kattpaccino, on June 27, 2025, she discussed the vibes she got from Nmplol. She suggested he might use his influence to pressure female streamers, and that she got negative weirdo vibes from him. She said, "He kind of gives off the... Hey, I have followers, kind of vibe and then... yeah we can stream together but also I'm gonna try to hit on you afterwards. Try to make you sleep with my NMP kind of vibe and then like if you say no I'm gonna force myself on you. That's just what I get.' — Awk20000 (@Awk20000) Nmplol responded strongly to her comments that spread online quite fast. His reaction was brief and pointed. He even expressed disbelief at the comments' nature, calling them to be outta pocket and absolutely crazy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He stated that he reported the entire matter to the authorities. He even called Kattpaccino's remarks absolutely crazy. He further emphasized that such defaming accusations must not be taken lightly. Later on, the situation intensified when other streamers like Asmongold weighed in, supporting Nmplol. Asmongold and other Streamers come to Nmplol's defense The former OTK co-founder Asmongold supports Nmplol. He condemned Kattpaccino's comments during his stream. He argued that Twitch must ban Kattpaccino pre-emptively. His words read, 'To go out and call somebody like that a f**king r@pist? Get the f**k out of here. How does Twitch let that happen?" Another streamer, Deansocool, even defended Nmplol and mocked accusations made by Kattpaccino with complete sarcasm. He said, " I mean you give me false allegation like the type to cry don't feel good don't it?" The backlash against Kattpaccino started growing more, as creators and fans both began questioning the validity of her claims. Erobb221 involvement added fuel to the entire controversy Nmplol even called out some fellow streamers, including Erobb221, for collaborating with Kattpaccino. He questioned his judgment, and it led to further drama as Macaiyla started criticizing Nmplol for trying to target Erobb, her brother-in-law. This situation, as of yet, remains unresolved. Kattpaccino has not yet publicly responded to this entire backlash. With the Twitch streamer drama continuing, the debate about defamation in streaming and Twitch moderation policies remains at the forefront. Whether or not further actions will be taken—by legal authorities or Twitch, it remains to be seen. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

National Museum of the Philippines loans Juan Luna's 'Una Bulaqueña' to Louvre Abu Dhabi

The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) has loaned Juan Luna's 'Una Bulaqueña' to the Louvre Abu Dhabi (LAD) in the United Arab Emirates, where it will be displayed until June 2026. According to NMP's post on Facebook, the loan is the first direct collaboration between the two museums, 'signalling a major milestone in the cultural dialogue between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.' The unveiling ceremony was attended by His Excellency Chairman of LAD Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak; Ambassador of the Philippines in the UAE His Excellency Alfonso A. Ver; and Deputy Director-General of the NMP Jorell M. Legaspi. Al Mubarak said LAD commits to promoting universality and global cultural exchange. 'With this display of 'Una Bulaqueña,' Abu Dhabi audiences will have the opportunity to discover a great deal about its cultural and art historical context, thereby learning more about the rich and fascinating history of the Philippines,' he said. Ver added that this strengthens the relations between the Philippines and the UAE. 'This significant cultural exchange reflects our shared commitment to fostering understanding and cooperation through art.' LAD director Manuel Rabaté said they're "deeply honored to bring this treasured masterpiece to the Arab world for the first time." He described 'Una Bulaqueña' as a representation of the heritage and identity of the Filipino people. "This exceptional loan strengthens our universal narrative by placing Southeast Asia's voice at the heart of our global dialogue." "Una Bulaqueña," also called "La Bulaqueña," is Luna's painting of a Filipino woman from Bulacan dressed in traditional attire. According to the Cultural Center of the Philippines Encyclopedia of Philippine Art, the woman in the portrait is Emiliana Yriarte Trinidad, who was less than 17 years old when she posed for the painting. She is 'a comely Filipina from an elite provincial family," depicted full figure in the formal dress of the time. 'Her contemplative gaze and upright posture speak volumes about the grace and strength of a Filipina,' NMP added on Facebook. 'The artwork also reflects Luna's mastery of merging the European art traditions of his time with the distinct dynamism of Filipino identity.' The painting survived World War II and was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2008. It was sold to the NMP in World War II for 200 in Japanese military notes, according to the CCP. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News

Indian roads will match US standards in 2 years, says Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, said on Monday that India's road infrastructure will match that of the United States within two years. He backed the claim by pointing to the government's decade-long focus on investment in the sector. "The question is not about the facelift, it has already changed. You have just watched the newsreel, the main picture is yet to start. The projects in the pipeline are progressing rapidly. In another two years, you will be able to see that Indian road infrastructure will be similar to that of America," Gadkari told ANI in an interview, when asked when Indian roads would undergo a complete transformation. He added, 'Some people from America met me and said our infrastructure is better than America.' Improved roads lower logistics costs Gadkari explained that improved highways and expressways have reduced logistics costs, thereby enhancing India's export competitiveness. "If we raise our exports, it will improve our agricultural sector, manufacturing, and services, among all other sectors," he said. He noted that India has historically faced high logistics costs—around 16 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP)—compared to 8 per cent in China and 12 per cent in the US and Europe. "Our roads were not good, our ports were not good. Traffic congestion raised costs," he said. Major projects underway Gadkari outlined several key infrastructure projects in progress, including 25 greenfield expressways, a 3,000-km highway to boost port connectivity, and ₹1 trillion worth of roads linking key religious tourism circuits. He added that the government is connecting Buddhist circuits and the Char Dham pilgrimage routes with all-weather highways. "We are developing 36 tunnels between Jammu and Srinagar; 23 have been completed, and works for another 4–5 are underway," Gadkari said. "We are developing 15 ropeways under Parvatmala Yojana, besides 35 multi-modal logistics parks." Infrastructure: The backbone of growth Public infrastructure is central to economic growth, improving connectivity, trade, and quality of life. Over the last decade, India has made significant advances in this area. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), launched in 2021, seeks to bring together various ministries—such as Railways and Roadways—for integrated planning and streamlined execution of major infrastructure projects. India currently has the second-largest road network in the world. Its National Highways (NH) span approximately 146,000 km, forming the backbone of national transport. According to a ministry statement released in February 2025, the network has grown substantially—from 65,569 km in 2004, to 91,287 km in 2014, and to 146,145 km by 2024.
