212Cr for construction of new bridge over Mahisagar approved
Vadodara: Five days after the Gambhira bridge tragedy that claimed 20 lives in Padra taluka of Vadodara district, Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday approved Rs 212 crore for the construction of a new two-lane high-level bridge over the Mahisagar river near Mujpur in Padra taluka.

The new bridge will be constructed parallel to the collapsed bridge and will connect Vadodara's Padra and Anklav taluka of Anand district.
"The roads and buildings department prepared a detailed project report after conducting a survey of the proposed site," a release issued by the state govt said.
"The new bridge is intended to restore connectivity between Central Gujarat and Saurashtra and ease travel challenges for local commuters and students following the incident," it mentioned.
Superintending engineer of the R&B department N V Rathwa said that the Mujpur approach road, which is currently two lanes, will be widened to four lanes and seven meters wide. Additionally, a 4.2km stretch from the highway to the new bridge will be upgraded to four lanes.
"The new bridge project was sanctioned and the tendering process has already begun. The target is to complete the new bridge's construction within 18 months," the release said.
Box: Rs 62L ex gratia disbursed
Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Sunday that ex gratia of Rs 62 lakh was disbursed to the next of kin of those who died in the Gambhira bridge collapse tragedy and to those who were injured. The govt said in a statement that until Sunday, a sum of Rs 4 lakh was paid to the next of kin of those who died, while Rs 50,000 was disbursed to those injured in the bridge collapse incident.
