Sharpshooter of Hashim Baba gang held with US-made pistol in Delhi

Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) A sharpshooter of the Hashim Baba gang, who has over 13 criminal cases including those under MCOCA registered against him, has been arrested in an arms trafficking case months after his release from jail, a police official said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Nadeem alias Kaliya (41), was arrested from Chandni Mahal area of central Delhi on July 20 and a US-made pistol recovered from his possession, the official said. Police said Nadeem is a habitual offender and a known associate of several criminal syndicates, including the Chhenu, Nasir, and Hashim Baba gangs. 'With over 13 criminal cases against him, including those under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), murder, robbery, and the Arms Act, Nadeem is a history-sheeter under Jafrabad police station limits," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said. Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap in Gali Takhat Wali area on Sunday night, he said, adding that as the team moved in, Nadeem attempted to pull out a pistol and flee, but he was swiftly overpowered by police personnel. 'A US-made pistol, four live cartridges, and a magazine were recovered from his possession. He could not produce any licence for the weapon," the DCP said, adding that a case under the Arms Act was registered. During interrogation, Nadeem disclosed his involvement in an arms supply racket. Acting on his information, police later recovered two more country-made pistols and 10 live cartridges from his hideout in Chandni Mahal. Police said Nadeem was first arrested in 2005 under the Arms Act and got further involved in organised crime while in prison. He allegedly committed the murder of Athar Abbas in 2017 and later joined the Hashim Baba gang, where he was active in arms trafficking and extortion. Despite being booked under MCOCA in 2019, he resumed criminal activities after his release from jail in February 2025, police said. He allegedly sourced illegal weapons from regions like Munger in Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh, they added. 3 held for sharing fake Pakistani video to ‘incite violence'

Representative image. AGRA: Three men were arrested in Muzaffarnagar on Monday for allegedly circulating a disturbing video from Pakistan as false evidence of communal violence in Uttar Pradesh, in an 'attempt to trigger unrest during the kanwar yatra'. The video, which showed seven bloodied bodies lying in a room, originated from Muzaffargarh in Pakistan's Punjab province. Police said it was falsely portrayed as an attack by Bajrang Dal members on a Muslim family in UP's Muzaffarnagar. The accused also shared an audio clip with the video, urging people to spread it widely. The arrested individuals — Nadeem (25), Masher (45), and Raees (35) — are all residents of Kakrauli village in Muzaffarnagar. Saharanpur range DIG Abhishek Singh said, 'They intended to incite communal unrest during the religious (kanwar) procession.' He added that all three were being interrogated. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. Police said the accused circulated the video and audio on multiple social media platforms, targeting groups associated with a particular community across several districts in western UP. Investigators believe the content was meant to provoke hatred, radicalise youth, disrupt social harmony, and potentially incite a lone-wolf terrorist attack. An officer said, "The conspiracy appeared well-planned, with the content distributed systematically across messaging groups. Mobile phones recovered from the trio have been sent for forensic analysis." Police are also trying to identify the person behind the voice-over in the audio clip.

Three held for circulating old Pak video in bid to incite tension during Kanwar Yatra: UP Police

THE MUZAFFARNAGAR police have arrested three men for allegedly circulating a video that originated in Pakistan in the wake of a crime there a year ago with the intent to incite communal disharmony during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. In a statement issued on Monday, police identified the accused as Nadeem (25), Mansher (45) and Rahees (35) – all from Muzaffarnagar. 'They work as a vegetable vendor, junk dealer and utensil seller,' said a police officer. 'They were circulating a video showing dead women and children soaked in blood, along with an audio message alleging that members of a particular outfit were attacking families belonging to another community in Moradabad district. Investigations revealed that the video actually originated from Muzaffargarh, Pakistan, where a man had murdered his wife and seven children in April 2024,' read the statement. Personnel at the Kakaroli police station received information that some individuals from the village were circulating a video and audio in a Whatsapp group. 'The intention behind this was to incite people of a particular community and instigate communal tension in western Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra,' said the officials. According to the police, taking cognizance of this, a team was immediately constituted by the Kakaroli Police Station. 'We immediately identified the accused and arrested the three. We have also recovered three mobile phones,' said the police. The police have registered at Kakaroli Police Station under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and sections 55 (instigating certain crime) 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) 103(2) (murder committed by a group), 113(3) (terrorism), 147 (rioting),152 (sedition) 196 (promoting enmity) 197(spreading false information) 299 (outraging religious feeling) 351(3)(criminal intimidation) 353(2)(rumour) of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the IT Act.
