TVK rules out alliance with BJP

Chennai: Actor Vijay's TVK has denied any ongoing alliance talks with the BJP, reaffirming its stance against tying up with the saffron party, while BJP leaders express optimism. In Tenkasi, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran said, "good things will happen." S Veera Vigneshwaran, spokesperson for TVK which seems to have declined the overtures and maintained its distance from the NDA, rejected any alliance talks and reiterated that the party would never tie up with the BJP, which he described as a "sectarian force involved in divisive politics." He recalled Vijay's stance during last year's party state-level conference at Vikravandi where the actor-politician described the DMK as a "political enemy" and the BJP as an "ideological enemy. " Asked about an alliance with TVK, Union home minister Amit Shah, in an interview with a Tamil daily, stated that there was enough time for the election. "Everything would be clear at the right time," Shah said. In Pudukottai, former AIADMK minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji stated that all political parties opposing DMK, including TVK, must join hands with the AIADMK to oust DMK from power. Nainar Nagenthran condemns alleged attack on women complainants in a police station

Sharing a disturbing video of a policeman brutally attacking a woman, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday said the assault took place on three women, including a five-month pregnant woman, at the Kanakammachathiram police station in Tiruvallur district. In a post on X, Mr. Nagenthran alleged the women who had come to the police station to file a complaint of sexual harassment. 'If the police officer who should protect victims, himself assaults them, where will they go to seek justice in the 'Dravidian model' government's rule?' He claimed the police had taken a bribe from the accused before unleashing violence on the complainants. He urged the intervention of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to launch a thorough probe and take stern action against the officer involved.

EPS plans to launch poll campaign from Coimbatore in July

Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is planning to start his campaign from Coimbatore, in July or Aug against the backdrop of DMK and BJP already actively engaging with the electorate, multiple sources told TOI. Meanwhile, BJP is preparing for Union minister Amit Shah's visit, expected on July 8, to address the new team of office bearers for Nainar Nagenthran. BJP may streamline its decision-making process by limiting its core committee to 10 members to improve efficiency as the party gears up for upcoming assembly election. Palaniswami is scheduled to hold a second round of discussions with district secretaries and functionaries on June 24, with a focus on the booth level committees and strengthening the party's grassroots presence. AIADMK's campaign strategy will highlight failures of DMK govt. An associate familiar with the campaign strategy said, "It is going to be a mix of rallies, road shows and marches. EPS plans to address issues from corruption to law and order during his campaign, aiming to capitalise on anti-incumbency sentiments against the Stalin govt." The AIADMK district units are actively involved in recruitment drives. They are focusing on attracting young people to the Ilaignar and Ilam Pengal Peravai, the student's wing, and the newly formed sports wing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Comment se préparer à l'avenir de l'investissement eToro Market Updates Lire la suite Undo The party's booth level committees are also prioritising the inclusion of younger members to counter opponents. Amit Shah's visit aims to strengthen the party's position in Tamil Nadu. "The minister told core committee members last time that he would frequent Tamil Nadu and closely monitor the political situation and work towards unseating the DMK govt," a BJP leader said. Shah's previous visits, included three in less than four months, to Coimbatore, Chennai and Madurai. Since his appointment as president of the state unit, Nainar Nagenthran finalised his team of new office-bearers, vice-presidents, general secretaries, secretaries, and treasurers, and submitted the list to the central leadership. "The changes will be very minimal as election is fast approaching. An announcement will be made shortly," a party leader said. Nagenthran, a former AIADMK minister, has been actively engaging with senior leaders from his former party, and vice-versa.

Nainar Nagenthran expresses concern over alleged security issues in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, on Thursday (June 19, 2025) expressed concern over 'deteriorating' law and order situation in Coimbatore, claiming that the city, which is known for its industrial and educational growth, is facing increasing security challenges, including alleged links to terrorism. In a statement, Mr. Nagenthran said it is shocking that four individuals have been allegedly recruited for the ISIS terrorist organisation under the guise of an 'Arabic College' in Coimbatore. 'The DMK-led government attempted to downplay the terror bomb blast incident near the Kottai Easwaran Temple in Coimbatore in 2022 as merely a cylinder explosion. Following this bomb blast, individuals linked to terrorist organisations have been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Coimbatore,' he said. 'On one hand, there is a series of murders targeting the elderly persons and on the other, there are acts of vandalism of idols in some temples. Amidst these incidents, the reported presence of persons linked to terrorist groups to such an alarming extent has placed the entire Coimbatore region under a cloud of threat, raising serious questions about public safety under the so-called Dravidian model government,' he said. Quoting a NIA press statement, BJP former state president K. Annamalai said, 'While the NIA is working tirelessly to dismantle these terror cells, the DMK continues to downplay threats, brushing off suicide bombing incidents as mere accidents. When appeasement replaces accountability, national security pays the price. Tamil Nadu deserves better.'

Chennai: Tamil Nadu unit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nainar Nagenthran on Monday commenced a week-long fast seeking divine blessings for the upcoming Lord Muruga Devotees' Conference in Madurai, and to press for six key prayers aimed at the state's welfare. The conference, organised by Muruga devotees from across Tamil Nadu, is set to take place on June 22, coinciding with the auspicious Krithikai day. The event is expected to draw thousands of devotees and religious leaders from across the state. Speaking to the media before beginning his fast, Nainar Nagenthran made a fervent appeal to Lord Muruga, announcing that he would observe the fast from June 16 to June 22, invoking divine support for both the conference's success and broader well-being of Tamil Nadu. 'I humbly place six heartfelt prayers at the feet of Lord Muruga and urge all devotees to join me in seeking his blessings for our state,' Nagenthran said, adding that the tradition of fasting and supplication is deeply rooted in Tamil culture and spiritual practice. Outlining his prayer focussing on six key points, the BJP leader emphasised the following which include preservation of Tamil language, culture, and temples. Realisation of a prosperous Tamil Nadu aligned with a developed India by 2047, Safety, dignity, and empowerment of women, Creation of a drug-free Tamil Nadu, Promotion of social harmony and protection of backward communities, and Strengthening rural infrastructure and advancing agricultural development. He called on devotees to offer their prayers to Lord Muruga -- revered as the King of Kurinji and the bearer of the Vel -- for these noble causes. 'With the divine guidance of Lord Kandan, our state can progress toward peace, unity, and prosperity,' he said. The fast and the upcoming conference are seen as efforts by the BJP to deepen its spiritual and cultural outreach in Tamil Nadu, where Muruga worship holds immense cultural significance. Nagenthran's initiative blends faith with a vision for holistic development, aiming to bring together spirituality and socio-political commitment in the run-up to the high-profile religious gathering.
