A Reddit post by a Bengaluru resident has gone viral, tickling the city's sense of humour over a rather ironic savings message displayed while booking a Namma Metro ticket. Bengaluru metro tickets can now be purchased on nine popular mobility apps. 'What is this behaviour Namma Metro?' the man posted, showing a notification that read: 'Best offer applied for you! You have saved ₹0.' The post amassed nearly a hundred upvotes within hours and quickly drew a horde of amused comments, with widespread jokes about the 'generous' discount. With this advancement, travelers have been able to access ticketing services through a broader selection of well-known mobility and travel apps. Launch of the much-awaited Yellow Line Meanwhile, anticipation is growing as the much-awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro nears its grand debut, expected in the first or second week of August. Finally, Namma Metro's Yellow Line gets ISA clearance
BENGALURU: Namma Metro's Yellow Line has finally received the much-awaited Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report, which now allows the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to call for a Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection. The certification was issued by an Italian state-run agency in collaboration with Siemens India Ltd–Siemens AG, the signalling contractor for the Yellow Line, on Thursday. The ISA report was delayed due to technical glitches discovered during the review of key datasets, which required software updates. Without this report, the BMRCL could not proceed with the mandatory CMRS inspection. Confirming the development, BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer Yashwant Chavan told TNIE, 'We have received the ISA report. Following this, we will be going forward with the next step to call the CMRS for inspection.' Former BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao had earlier said that the Yellow Line was likely to be launched by August 15. SURYA SEEKS CENTRE'S INTERVENTION TO FAST-TRACK YELLOW LINE LAUNCH Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Friday, and sought his intervention to fast-track the commissioning of Namma Metro's Yellow Line. In the meeting, Surya requested the minister that the submission of the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) report be expedited for early approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), and inauguration of the long-pending Yellow Line. Surya also stressed the need for greater support for Transit Oriented Development (TOD) across Indian cities and called for sustained funding towards public transport systems. 'We must prioritise moving people over cars,' he said, adding that India should aim to have at least five cities among the world's most livable cities in the next decade. The MP also pitched for standardisation of Metro trains across the country. He said uniformity in train design would facilitate interoperability, reduce delivery timelines, and build global-scale manufacturing capacity within India. The Yellow Line, a key stretch under Phase 2 of Namma Metro, was initially expected to be operational by mid-2023.

Bengaluru MP's poll finds 91% of Bengalureans want Metro phase 3A, not car-only tunnel
A majority of Bengalureans have spoken, and they want better public transport, not a controversial tunnel for cars. BJP MP from Bangalore Central PC Mohan. Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan posted the results of an X (formerly Twitter) poll on Wednesday, revealing that 91 per cent of over 3,500 respondents favoured Metro Phase 3A over the proposed ₹17,780 crore car-only tunnel. 'The message is clear,' Mohan wrote. 'Bengaluru needs suburban rail, metro connectivity, more buses with bus lanes, walkable footpaths, cycling infrastructure and pothole-free roads.' Another questioned the next step, 'So when are we getting the stay order, sir? Please start legal procedures. Brand Bengaluru has been spoiled by the current administration.' Some users, however, expressed frustration at the slow pace of existing metro projects. 'First complete Phase 2, 2A and 2B, then talk about Phase 3A,' one user said.'Namma Metro is the most delayed and useless project in the world. Outsource it to China or Dubai, they'll finish it faster and cheaper than the corrupt Indian system.' The debate over Bengaluru's future transport infrastructure has heated up in recent weeks, after the Congress government defended the tunnel road proposal as a bold and transformative step. 'This isn't about political credit. It's about Brand Bengaluru,' the party said in a statement, urging collaboration between the state and Centre. The statement welcomed audits and technical reviews but cautioned against politicising the project, 'Citizens deserve efficient execution, not polarised discourse.' The proposed tunnel project has faced strong pushback from civic groups and citizens, who argue it prioritises private vehicles over sustainable transport and will disrupt the city's urban ecology. The government, however, maintains that all major infrastructure projects will be subject to review and public consultation.
