McLaughlin named NIFWA player of the month
Cliftonville's Naomi McLaughlin says she is "buzzing" to be named June's Women's Premiership player of the month by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association. That was really nice for me."What a game. We always make it hard for ourselves, but I'm glad I could help the team and four assists is good for anyone so I was happy about that."McLaughlin moved to Solitude from Sion Swifts at the beginning of 2024 but struggled with injury in the Reds' treble-winning year. After retaining the League Cup, the Northern Ireland youth international says the club have their eyes on more success."I missed a lot of football and now I'm buzzing to be back.."It's nice to pick up this award when I've been out for a long time.""I'm glad with assists to help out the team in whatever way I can. Cliftonville Ladies ace on why the Reds always have a must-win mindset ahead of vital League clash with Glentoran
Naomi McLaughlin has admitted that Cliftonville Ladies now have no margin for error as they attempt to keep hold of the Sports Direct Women's Premiership title. Facing games of a 'must-win' nature, however, which is the billing that the Reds' latest clash with Glentoran Women takes on after losing the last meeting just over two weeks ago, doesn't bring any extra pressure, according to the former Northern Ireland Under-19 international, whose performances during June won her the Northern Ireland Football Writers Sports Direct Player of the Month.

Cliftonville 'deserved' to win League Cup
Cliftonville midfielder Marissa Callaghan said she felt "immense pride" in the Reds' 4-2 comeback win against Glentoran in the Women's League Cup Reds trailed 2-0 at half-time after Emily Wilson's well-taken double, but they scored four times in the second half to win the trophy for a third successive netted the third by heading beyond Ashleigh McKinnon and praised her side's stunning second half display."I thought we came out and completely dominated the second half," she told BBC Sport NI."First half, we lost ourselves a little bit, we were nervous and lacked a bit of awareness in the game. Fair play to Glentoran, they did well to get their two goals, but what a second half from us, every player gave everything, and we left everything on the pitch and deserved to win in the end."The former Northern Ireland captain said an honest half-time team talk and a tactical switch of position for forward Naomi McLaughlin were the catalysts for change in the second half."Half-time there were words, it was not the first half we wanted but we're a group of winners, we know how to win a game, and the coaches changed it with Naomi coming inside and she changed the game for us, she set up three of the four goals, " Callaghan added."It was nice to score what I thought was the winner at the time, there is no better feeling than scoring in a cup final."
