Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Thursday, directed the administration to complete the renovation and expansion work of Shirdi airport and make it fully operational before the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. He chaired the meeting to review the ongoing works of Shirdi airport and the Greenfield airport at Purandar in Pune district. Taking a detailed review of the expansion and renovation work of Shirdi Airport, Chief Minister Fadnavis said: "The work of a new air traffic control building, integrated cargo building and terminal building at the airport in Shirdi is proposed. Nashik Kumbh Mela schedule out but suspense over guardian minister pick continues

Nashik: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday maintained ambiguity over who will be the guardian minister of Nashik district, hosting the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2026-27, indicating that differences among three Mahayuti allies vying for the post remain unresolved. Addressing reporters after chairing a meeting of seers to discuss the schedule for the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, Fadnavis said, "Kumbh Mantri Girish Mahajan (BJP) is working along with ministers Dada Bhuse (Shiv Sena), Chhagan Bhujbal and Narhari Zirwal (both NCP). If needed, we are also there". The chief minister further said the absence of a guardian minister has not affected administrative work. "Guardian ministers come and go. Do not worry and don't bring politics in this issue. This (Kumbh Mela) is a religious and cultural parva (period)," Fadnavis said while replying to a query on the possible district guardian minister pick. Earlier this year, the appointment of guardian ministers of Nashik and Raigad districts was stayed amid a reported tussle in the ruling Mahayuti, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and NCP headed by Ajit Pawar, on the issue. Live Events On January 18, the state government announced the list of district guardian ministers, with Nationalist Congress Party's Aditi Tatkare getting Raigad and BJP leader Girish Mahajan being given the responsibility of Nashik. However, amid reports of discontent, the general administration department issued an order staying these two appointments on January 19. Mahajan and Bhuse had served as guardian ministers of Nashik district under governments headed by Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, respectively. Before that, Chhagan Bhujbal of NCP (undivided) held the post when the Congress-NCP Democratic Front (DF) government was in power. Bhujbal, who was recently inducted as a cabinet minister in the Mahayuti government, has reportedly shown interest in representing the guardian minister's post. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )

State to spend ₹4,820 cr to develop religious sites

MUMBAI: The state government will spend ₹ 4,820 crore on the restoration, conservation and development of major religious sites across Maharashtra. The decision was taken at a meeting of the council of ministers in Ahilyanagar on Tuesday. The state will also set up a body to oversee the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela to be held in 2027. It will be set up on the lines of the Prayagraj Authority of the Uttar Pradesh government. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Nashik Religious sites that will get a makeover include the Shri Tuljabhavani Temple in Dharashiv, for which the state government has approved ₹ 1,865 crore. Tuljabhavani was the reigning deity of the Maratha empire. The Mahalaxmi Temple in Kolhapur will be restored at a cost of ₹ 1,445 crore. Mahurgad, a religious site in Nanded district with three mountains in Mahur (the Renuka Mahar Devi Mata Temple is one of the three temples at the site), will be developed at a cost of ₹ 829 crore, while the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Nashik, and the Shree Jyotiba Devasthan in Kolhapur, have been allotted ₹ 275 crore and ₹ 259 crore, respectively. The government has also earmarked ₹ 147 crore for the development of seven Ashtavinayak Temples in Maharashtra: Mayureshwar Temple (Morgaon), Siddhivinayak Temple (Siddhatek), Ballaleshwar Temple (Pali), Varad Vinayak Temple (Mahad), Chintamani Temple (Theur), Vighneshwar Ozar Temple (Ozar) and Mahaganapati Temple (Ranjangaon). The Girijatmaj Lenyadri Temple, the eighth Ashtavinayak temple in the state, is not in the list. The decision to spend ₹ 4,820 crore on religious sites comes at the time when the state government is struggling with a financial crunch. On establishing an authority for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Nashik in 2027, Fadnavis said, 'A draft ordinance has been approved to establish the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority. The 12-yearly spiritual event is expected to attract millions of devotees. Their participation is expected to be four to give times higher than the 2015 turnout of 2.5 crore.'
