Restaurant crowned country's best with top award win
An award-winning restaurant has added yet another accolade to its name. The inaugural British Curry Championships has named the best Indian restaurants across the country. The awards aim to celebrate the top curry chefs, restaurants and takeaways in the UK. Chequers Indian Lounge took home the award for Curry Team of the Year. READ MORE: The restaurant won Curry Team of the Year (Image: Kois Miah) The Great Blakenham restaurant serves meals inspired by ancient spice routes and aims to give diners a glimpse of India's culture and cuisine. Guests can choose to dine in or take away their meals with menus including tandoori specialities, regional dishes and the chef's signature dishes such as Royal Bengal Roshni. It is owned by Nasir Jilani, who also runs the award-winning Jilani in Sudbury. The British Curry Championships is not the first time Chequers Indian Lounge has won a national award. Speaking previously, Mr Jilani said it was an "exceptional honour" to be up for many national awards. He added he hopes to bring home even more awards with "continued dedication from both staff and the customers." Irfan Younis, a spokesman for the British Curry Championship, said: "These awards provide a platform to applaud the exceptional efforts of those who have made significant contributions to the curry sector and continue to elevate the nation's love for curry."

Hygiene ratings for all McDonald's restaurants in Bolton
McDonald's is arguably the most popular fast-food chain in the world with thousands of restaurants across the UK, including in Bolton. We have seven of the golden arches meaning we are never far from a Big Mac or a few Chicken McNuggets. But with each restaurant there comes a different standard to cleanliness and hygiene. And thanks to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) we get to look at what each of the hygiene ratings is for the different locations. The inspections are carried out by the local authority and findings are updated on the FSA website whenever there is a new inspection conducted by the council. There are six different ratings that a venue can be awarded from 0 to 5. 5 - Hygiene standards are very good 4 – Hygiene standards are good 3 – Hygiene standards are generally satisfactory 2 – Some improvement is necessary 1 – Major improvement is necessary 0 – Urgent improvement is required Inspectors look at a few different key elements when assessing the hygiene of a restaurant including: How hygienically the food is handled- such as how its prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled, and stored. The condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, and other facilities. How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe and so that the officer can be confident standards will be maintained in the future. Bolton is due to have an eighth McDonald's open but for now, here are the hygiene ratings the seven that are already operating. 93 Derby Street Rating: 5 Last inspected: December 5, 2023 Waters Meeting Road Rating: 4 Last inspected: May 27, 2022 1-7 Knowsley Street Rating: 4 Last inspected: May 5, 2022 It's important to note that this restaurant was recently inspected and an updated hygiene rating will be published soon.
