Saudi Arabia deploys sophisticated weather monitoring system to advise pilgrims
MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia's National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has issued 1,920 hourly weather bulletins throughout this year's haj season to advise pilgrims, as temperatures, particularly around Mina, are expected to reach as high as 40°C to 45°C. The bulletins are generated from 16 automatic and two manually operated weather stations in Mina and Arafah, as well as mobile monitoring units. These weather monitoring stations, equipped with sophisticated systems and modern technology, including radar, satellite imagery and weather models, feed data to an integrated operations room that runs 24 hours a day to provide the meteorological updates. This ensures 100 per cent overage in Makkah, the holy sites, and Madinah, in addition to key locations such as ports, airports, and connecting routes. Yesterday's temperatures are expected to range between 33°C and 44°C, with the peak occurring between 9am and 3pm. Yesterday, the 11th of the hijri month of Zulhijjah in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims continued the ritual of stoning of the devil at all three Jamarat, and will continue to do so today and tomorrow, the 12th, and 13th of Zulhijjah. Malaysian journalists invited by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Media chose to depart for the stoning ritual before dawn (Subuh prayer time). This was to avoid congestion and extreme heat exposure, especially as pilgrims walk in crowds from their accommodations to the Jamarat area. Based on observations, the period between midnight and Subuh is the most ideal, as most pilgrims begin the trek to the Jamarat area after completing Subuh prayers. On Friday, the 'dhuyufurrahman' (guests of the Most Merciful) completed the stoning ritual at Jamratul Kubra, followed by 'tahallul' (partial release from the state of ihram), after performing 'wukuf' in Arafah and spending the night (mabit) in Muzdalifah. After completing the stoning ritual at all three jamarat, pilgrims will head to Makkah to perform 'tawaf' and 'sa'i', before performing the final 'tahallul', thus completing all compulsory rituals of haj.

Hot Weather, Gusty Winds Expected For Holy Sites During Hajj
MAKKAH, May 29 (Bernama-SPA) -- The National Centre for Meteorology has forecast hot to extremely hot weather conditions at the holy sites during this year's Hajj season, 1446 AH, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. Maximum temperatures will range from 40 degrees Celsius to 47 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will vary from 27 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are expected to fluctuate between 15 per cent and 60 per cent. The Centre's CEO, Dr Ayman Ghulam, stated that winds during the Hajj season are expected to be northerly to north-westerly, with speeds ranging from 25–35 km/h. These winds may stir up dust, potentially reducing horizontal visibility, particularly in open areas and along highways.

Saudi Arabia's meteorological authorities predict hot daytime temperatures during Eid Al-Fitr, starting Sunday. According to the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM), maximum temperatures will range between 30°C and 38°C nationwide. However, southwestern highlands and northern areas will see milder highs between 25°C and 29°C. Nighttime temperatures will dip to 20°C–25°C in most regions. Northern and southwestern mountainous areas may experience colder lows of 11°C–14°C. Light rain hits parts of UAE, drop in temperature expected on Monday
Various regions of the country experienced light to moderate rainfall on Sunday, a consequence of the country being impacted by the extension of a shallow air depression from the west and an air height from the east, accompanied by a weak air depression in the upper atmosphere. Precipitation was observed on Dayyinah Island, Qurnain Island, Abu Al Abyad Island, Mahimat Island, Arzana Island, Das Island, Nawari Island, Al Wahil Island, Al Tawila, Al Samih and Ghantoot in Abu Dhabi, west Bu Al Nadhra, west Bu Hassa, Al Aif, west Bu Al Dhiyab, Tatid, Madinat Zayed and Bedea Saif in Al Dhafra region, Al Quaa in Al Ain, Al Hamriya in Sharjah, and Al Halah and Al Tayyiba in Fujairah. The lowest temperature recorded in the country was 15.9°C, observed at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 07:45 am on Sunday. The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has expected that the weather on Monday, will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times, with the possibility of light rain, particularly in the west and on islands. There will also be a noticeable decrease in temperatures, with northwesterly winds of light to moderate speeds expected to become active to strong. Cold Wave Grips Saudi Arabia: Temperature Expected To Drop Below Zero
Saudi meteorology authorities have warned that several areas in the kingdom will experience a sharp drop in temperature on Saturday (today), signaling a new cold wave. The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) stated that the regions of Northern Borders, Tabuk, Al Jawf, Ha'il, and the northern parts of the Medina region will be affected by the wave starting Saturday, with minimum temperatures expected to range between 2°C and 0°C. Temperatures are expected to drop further by Monday, with temperatures in these five regions plunging below zero. The centre also forecasted that from Tuesday, the impact of the temperature drop will extend to other regions, including the central Al Qassim region, northern parts of Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, with minimum temperatures expected to range between 0°C and 2°C. NCM spokesman Hussein Al-Qahtani predicted that the cold wave would lead to a sharp drop in temperatures. 'This may be the last cold wave of this year's winter, which ends meteorologically on February 28, and coincides with Foundation Day (today) and the end of the second semester holidays,' he said in a post on the X platform. Saudi Arabia annually celebrates Foundation Day on February 22. He advised the public to take precautions, follow the instructions issued by the relevant authorities, and stay updated with NCM temperature drop may reach as low as -4°C in the kingdom's north, centre, and northeast.
