Mysuru MP meets Amit Shah, seeks funds for rain-related damage
MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday and sought funds for rain-related damage. In a press release, Mr. Yaduveer said he requested the Home Minister to take steps to address problems faced by the people of Mysuru and Kodagu districts, particularly in the wake of heavy rains. He urged Mr. Shah to release funds from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to provide relief to Kodagu district, which has witnessed extensive damage to property due to incessant rains this year. 'With additional grants, it will be possible to repair damaged roads and retaining walls,' he said. Mr. Yaduveer raised concerns about crop losses suffered by tobacco and coffee growers due to the rains and sought compensation. Highlighting security concerns, Mr. Yaduveer informed Mr. Shah about the increasing presence of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Kodagu and urged the Home Ministry to initiate appropriate action.

Maha govt approves Rs445 crore relief for disaster-hit farmers
Nagpur: The Maharashtra govt approved Rs445 crore in financial aid for farmers affected by natural disasters during the 2023–24 fiscal year, disbursing Rs245 crore through direct bank transfers. "Farmers are the backbone of our economy and govt will never abandon them in times of crisis," Jadhav-Patil said, assuring that compensation would meet the standards set by the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). He said that immediate assistance is provided following field inspections and damage reports, as mandated under relief protocols. The announcement followed a legislative discussion initiated by MLA Siddharth Kharat, with contributions from multiple legislators across party lines. The discussion highlighted crop and property damage due to extreme weather, particularly in Buldhana's Mehkar, Lonar, Chikhli, and Sindkhed Raja talukas, where rainfall above 65mm impacted over 50,000 hectares of soyabean, cotton, pulses, and vegetables crops. At least 73 houses were partially damaged, and two fatalities were reported. Jadhav-Patil assured that damage assessments were underway, and relief would be distributed as soon as reports were submitted. He reiterated that the govt would act swiftly to extend aid and revive rural livelihoods affected by erratic climate events. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, addressing the House, underscored the govt's readiness to discuss all issues concerning the state's farmers. He assured that the govt would extend support under all circumstances, reiterating that the current administration considers itself "a govt of farmers, for farmers."

Shah-led panel approves Rs 2K crore to rebuild Himachal after flood damage
NEW DELHI: In a significant move aimed at rebuilding disaster-affected regions in Himachal Pradesh, a high-level committee, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday approved Rs 2,006.40 crore as central assistance to the state, officials said. According to them the financial assistance is given for the recovery and reconstruction activities in the wake of the devastating floods, landslides, and cloudbursts that struck the state in 2023. The committee, composed of the Finance Minister, the Agriculture Minister and the Vice Chairman NITI Aayog as members considered the proposal for financial assistance to the state under National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), the officials said. A senior Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) official said, 'The high-powered panel has approved the recovery plan of Rs 2,006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh, which will help the state in carrying out recovery and reconstruction activities, arisen due to damage and destruction that occurred in 2023 monsoon due to floods, cloudbursts and landslides.' According to him the sanctioned fund will comprise of Rs 1,504.80 crore as Central share from recovery and reconstruction funding window under the NDRF. 'Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the MHA had approved additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the NDRF for the state, which was affected by this disaster,' he said.

Shah approves Rs 2006 cr Central aid for recovery and reconstruction in Himachal
New Delhi, June 18 (UNI) In a significant step towards rebuilding disaster-affected regions, a high-level committee, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday approved Rs 2006.40 crore in Central assistance to Himachal Pradesh. The financial aid is earmarked for recovery and reconstruction activities in the wake of the devastating floods, landslides, and cloudbursts that struck the state in 2023, a Home Ministry statement said. The committee, comprising of Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and Vice Chairman NITI Aayog as members considered the proposal for financial assistance to the state from recovery and reconstruction funding window under National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The committee has approved the recovery plan of Rs 2006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh, which will help the state in carrying out recovery and reconstruction activities, arisen due to damage and destruction that occurred in 2023 monsoon due to floods, cloudbursts and landslides. Out of this, Rs 1,504.80 crore will be the Central share from recovery and reconstruction funding window under NDRF. Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the NDRF for Himachal Pradesh, which was affected by this disaster. The statement said that the Central government stands shoulder to shoulder with state governments during natural calamities and disasters. To fulfill Prime Minister Modi's vision of disaster-resilient India, the MHA has taken several initiatives to ensure effective management of disasters in the country. A number of steps have been taken to prevent any extensive loss to life and property during disasters by strengthening disaster risk reduction system in India. The Central government had approved recovery plans for the states of Uttarakhand (Rs 1658.17 crore) in the aftermath of Joshimath subsistence and for Sikkim (Rs 555.27 crore), in the aftermath of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) incident of 2023. The Central government had approved a number of mitigation projects with overall financial outlay of Rs 7,253.51 crore, for mitigating the risks of a number of hazards in the areas of urban floods (Rs 3075.65 crore), landslides (Rs.1000 crore), GLOF (Rs 150 crore), forest fire (Rs 818.92 crore), lightning (Rs. 186.78 crore) and drought (Rs 2022.16 crore). This additional assistance is over and above the funds released by the centre to states in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), already placed at the disposal of the states. During the financial year 2024-25, the Central government has released Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 states under SDRF and Rs 5,160.76 crore under NDRF to 19 states. Additionally, Rs 4984.25 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 19 states and Rs 719.72 crore from National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states has also been released. Centre approves Rs 2,006 crore aid for Himachal Pradesh for reconstruction activities post-2023 landslides, floods
A high-level committee under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Wednesday approved central assistance of Rs 2,006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh for recovery and reconstruction activities in the aftermath of flood, landslides, and the cloudburst incident in 2023. A statement issued by the central government said, 'Out of this (Rs 2,006.40 crore), Rs 1,504.80 crore will be the central share from Recovery and Reconstruction Funding Window under National Disaster Response Fund. Earlier, on December 12, 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the NDRF for Himachal Pradesh…' The committee, comprising the Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman, considered the proposal for financial assistance to the state through the Recovery and Reconstruction funding window under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The state government under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has long been blaming the Centre for not releasing the Post Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) funds of approximately Rs 9,000 crore. The issue has been a topic of heated discussions between the ruling party MLAs and the Opposition BJP legislators during various Assembly sessions. Senior BJP leaders, including national president J P Nadda and former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, hailed the central government on Wednesday for approving the assistance. The Centre had earlier approved Rs 1,658.17 crore for Uttarakhand in the aftermath of the land subsidence in Joshimath, and Rs 555.27 crore for Sikkim in the wake of the glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in 2023.
