Drivers facing five-mile queues on major motorway after broken down tanker lorry ‘catches fire' during rush hour

COMMUTERS are facing lengthy delays on a major motorway this morning after a broken down tanker reportedly caught fire. Drivers on the M62 are being met with queues as long as five miles heading eastbound from Greater Manchester to Yorkshire during the peak of rush hour today. Advertisement One lane is currently closed between Junction 22 at Saddleworth and Junction 23 at Huddersfield, leading to 45-minute queues for motorists. Some drivers are also facing delays on the westbound carriageway approaching the scene. In a post on X, a spokesperson for National Highways Yorkshire said: "M62 eastbound between J22 Saddleworth and J23 Huddersfield West Yorkshire. "Lane closed due to a broken down tanker lorry. Advertisement "West Yorkshire Police and our traffic officers are on scene. "Recovery arranged and en-route. 45 min delay and five miles of congestion." A post on the Inrix traffic monitoring system added: "Long delays and one lane closed due to vehicle fire on M62 Eastbound from J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor) to J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield). Horror moment lorry smashes into central reservation with car wedged UNDERNEATH on M62

Horrifying images captured the moment a lorry smashed into the central reservation with another car wedged underneath in a crash on the M62 on Tuesday evening (June 24). There were major delays of three hours after all traffic was held on the westbound carriageway near J22. Emergency services including police and paramedics raced to the scene at around 4pm. A closure was originally put in place before two lanes were later reopened, with delays of three hours on the westbound carriageway during rush hour. A lane was also closed on the eastbound carriagway. Pictures also showed another vehicle, a Kia, which appeared to have been wedged underneath. There were severe delays throughout early evening as recovery work was undertaken following the crash, which was reported at J22 for Rishworth Moor. West Yorkshire Police later confirmed the crash was a 'damage-only' collision and that no injuries were reported. In an update, National Highways saidL "A truck has collided with the central reservation barrier on the M62 at J22 Saddleworth. Two lanes are closed westbound and one lane eastbound. Lorry driver flees Woodhead Pass crash scene after smashing into wall

Officers are searching for a lorry driver who crashed into a wall on Woodhead Pass overnight. The key road between Tameside and South Yorkshire has been closed this morning (April 1) while 'extensive clean-up' works take place. Emergency services were called out to the A628 Woodhead Pass in the Crowden area of Derbyshire at around 1.20am. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area this morning, with people asked to use the M62 and M1, or the A57 Snake Pass, to get between Manchester and Sheffield instead. A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "We received reports of a collision on the A628 Woodhead Pass, Crowden Stretch, just after 1.20am on Tuesday, April 1. "The incident involved a lorry which was in collision with a wall. "The driver of the lorry left the scene before officers arrived and enquiries are ongoing to trace them. The road was closed while the incident was dealt with." Woodhead Pass remains closed while work takes place to clear the scene. In its latest update on X, a National Highways Yorkshire spokesperson said: "The A628 Woodhead Pass remains closed in both directions between the A57 (Hollingworth) and the A616 (Flouch) following the earlier collision. "Extensive clean up works remain ongoing at the scene. Consider alternative trans-Pennine routes such as the M62 or A57." It's not yet known how long the road will remain closed for. M621: One dead and four arrested as Leeds motorway closed

A man has died and four people have been arrested after a collision between a car and an HGV on the M621 in Leeds.A red lorry and silver Mercedes collided at 00:30 GMT on the motorway between J1 for Holbeck and J27 of the M62, according to West Yorkshire westbound carriageway remains closed between the two junctions.A passenger in the car aged in his 20s died at the scene, with three other occupants of the car taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The HGV driver was unharmed.
