Former LSU baseball standouts Paul Skenes, Alex Bregman named MLB All-Stars
Former LSU baseball stars Paul Skenes and Alex Bregman were named to the 2025 MLB All-Star game rosters on Sunday. Skenes makes it two straight appearances after earning the National League's starting pitching spot in 2024. The right-handed pitcher headlines the starting rotation for the Pittsburgh Pirates and boasts a National League-best 1.94 ERA. Through 116 innings, Skenes has a .92 WHIP and 125 strikeouts. The marks are second and fourth, respectively, in the National League. Opposing teams are batting .186 against him and of his 19 games in 2025, he allowed three or more runs just three times. Bregman returns to the All-Star lineup for a third time, the last being in 2019, and the first time as part of the Boston Red Sox. The third baseman hasn't played since May 23 due to a quad strain but was hitting .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs beforehand. Bregman's .553 slugging percentage over that time frame is his best since his last All-Star game appearance.

Historic Pete Alonso News Emerges Before Nationals-Mets Game
Historic Pete Alonso News Emerges Before Nationals-Mets Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Mets swept the Colorado Rockies in a three-game series in Denver, most recently delivering a 13-5 win on Sunday. The offense erupted behind Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil, each crushing two home runs and tallying three hits—key to their dominant performances. With that sweep, the Mets hope to carry their momentum into Tuesday night's game against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. Advertisement Pete Alonso has been a standout force this season, and his performance in Colorado was a prime example. The Mets first baseman delivered two home runs in the finale—bringing his season total to 17—and now holds the franchise record for multi-homer games with 23 in his career, while ranking second on the Mets' all-time home run list. Between June 2-8, he hit .400 (12‑for‑30) with a .486 on-base percentage, slugging five homers and driving in 15 runs—leading the majors in those categories during the stretch. On Tuesday, more historic Alonso news emerged. In his eight games this month, Alonso has posted 18 RBIs, six home runs and two hit by pitches. Only two other players in the live-ball era—Jeff Bagwell (August 2000) and Reggie Jackson (June 1969)—have matched that level of production over any eight-game span. Alonso's full-season numbers continue to reflect his dominance: he ranks among the NL leaders in home runs and RBIs, and has moved into second place on the Mets' all-time home run list, trailing only Darryl Strawberry. His current form has also sparked talk of him as a contender for NL MVP. Advertisement The Mets, currently with a National League-best 42-win record, will look to continue their hot streak as they return to action at home.
