Blow to MFL as giants Pahang withdraw from Super League
Pahang's last action on the field was at the Malaysia Cup final in April this year. — FAIHAN GHANI/The Star PETALING JAYA: Pahang have finally put an end to the uncertainty over their future in the Malaysian League after confirming their withdrawal from next season's campaign. Speculation had been rife since late March over the fate of the 2004 Super League champions, although hopes were briefly lifted when they secured a national licence from the independent First Instance Body (FIB). However, the Malaysian Football League (MFL) have now confirmed that the club submitted an official letter dated June 16 to inform the governing body of their decision to opt out of all competitions for the 2025-2026 season. Pahang's exit means only 13 teams will feature in the top-tier domestic league, which kicks off on Aug 8. 'Clubs competing for honours this season include Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), Selangor, Penang, Kuching City, Sabah, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Police and Brunei, along with AFL A1 representatives Melaka and Imigration. 'All 13 teams have been granted the National Licence for the 2025–2026 cycle by the FIB, while Brunei received special approval from the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to rejoin the Malaysian League this season," said MFL in a statement.

KL City, KDN and PDRM granted national licence
INDEPENDENT body First Instance Body (FIB) have approved the National Licence for Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City), Kelantan Darul Naim FC (KDN), and PDRM FC to participate in the upcoming Malaysia League (M-League) season. FIB chairman Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif said the decision was made after all three clubs submitted additional financial documents before the May 31 deadline this year. He said the requirement was in accordance with Article 8 (l) of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) Club Licensing Regulations. 'After reviewing and evaluating the additional financial documents submitted, FIB agreed to grant full National Licence status to the three clubs upon their successful fulfilment of all the compliance requirements. 'FIB expresses appreciation for the cooperation and strong commitment shown by KL City, KDN, and PDRM throughout the process, and wishes them all the best in the 2025–2026 Super League season,' he said in a statement issued by MFL today. Sheikh Mohd Nasir also informed that FIB had earlier granted the National Licence to Johor Darul Ta'zim FC (JDT), Selangor FC, Penang FC, Kuching City FC, Sabah FC, Terengganu FC, Sri Pahang FC, and Negeri Sembilan FC. In addition, he said two clubs from the A1 Semi-Pro League, Melaka FC and Imigresen FC, successfully obtained the Extraordinary National Licence.

It's A1 Semi-Pro League for Perak FA next season
THE Perak Football Association (Perak FA) have confirmed that they will join the A1 Semi-Pro League, which is expected to kick off this August. The announcement was made by its president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin in a statement on Perak FA's official Facebook page today, following a meeting with Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, yesterday. He said the Bos Gaurus line-up will consist of players from the Perak Malaysia Games (SUKMA) squad as well as several senior players who previously played in the Super League. 'The Menteri Besar also expressed strong support for Perak FA's efforts to rebuild from the ground up and to provide opportunities for young local talents to shine on a bigger stage. 'He also advised us to start with a solid, well-organised foundation, centred on the development of homegrown talents,' he said. Mohd Azhar said that besides competing in the A1 Semi-Pro League, the association will also focus on rebuilding the state's youth and feeder teams, as well as grassroots-level competitions. 'This includes the restructuring of teams for the 2026 President's Cup and Youth Cup, focusing on the development of the SUKMA team, in addition to organising state-level leagues such as Liga Perak Sejahtera 2030, the State Amateur Club League, the IPTA/IPTS Perak League, and the District Integrity League (Under-17),' he said. He expressed hope that these efforts would contribute towards restoring the glory of Perak football. On May 22, Amateur Football League (AFL) chairman, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi welcomed the participation of Perak FA and Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) in the A1 League following both teams' failure to obtain a National Licence to compete in the Super League next season.

Perak start anew by competing in A1 Semi-Pro League next season
PETALING JAYA: Perak will compete in the A1 Semi-Pro League next season, joining their northern neighbours Kedah, who have also pledged to do so. After the previous owners said they would not compete in any competition due to finances, the Perak Football Association (Pafa) said they would chart a fresh course with renewed energy and a clear vision to reclaim their proud legacy in Malaysian football. On May 23, Kedah and Perak failed to obtain the National Licence required for participation in the 2025-2026 Super League season. Pafa's immediate focus now lies in assembling a competitive team, with the Malaysia Games (Sukma) Perak squad forming the backbone of this rebuilding phase. This team will serve as the foundation for Perak's return to prominence in the domestic scene. Plans are under way to compete in AFL-sanctioned leagues as a starting point, alongside long-term preparations for Sukma 2026, the President's Cup 2026, and Youth Cup 2026 campaigns. Now standing as the central pillar of football in the state, Pafa acknowledge the disappointment felt by fans in recent years, but calls for unity and belief. 'This is the time to come together, rebuild, and plant the seeds of renewed hope,' said Azhar. PAFA plan to join A1 League next season
IPOH: The Perak Football Association (PAFA) are planning to compete in the A1 League organised by the Malaysia Amateur Football League (AFL) next season, taking a proactive step to ensure the state's proud football legacy lives on and grows. PAFA, in a statement posted on the official Perak FA Facebook page, said its main focus at present is to build a team around the Perak Malaysia Games (SUKMA) squad, which will form the backbone of The Bos Gaurus' domestic revival. 'Planning is actively under way to enter the AFL‑organised League as a starting point, while also making long‑term preparations for SUKMA 2026, the 2026 President's Cup and the 2026 Youth Cup. 'We greatly appreciate the strong support of the state government led by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, who has always been attentive and committed to helping PAFA drive football development in the state,' the statement said. On 22 May, AFL chairman Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi welcomed the participation of Perak and Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) in the A1 League after both clubs failed to secure the National Licence, ending the 2018 Malaysia Cup champions' (Perak FC's) hopes of playing in next season's Super League. The two teams' failure to meet the financial criteria laid out in the Malaysian Football League Club Licensing Regulations 2024‑2025 (MFL CLR) was the main reason their national licences were rejected. PAFA said its president, Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin, has already held a series of strategic meetings with senior football leaders, including Mohd Yusoff, to discuss direction, eligibility and entry requirements for the Amateur League, President's Cup, Youth Cup, A1 League, and future national‑licence applications. As the state's governing body for football, PAFA acknowledged fans' disappointment but called for everyone to unite, rebuild and sow fresh hope. 'We do not promise miracles, but we promise extraordinary resolve and determination, a fighting spirit that never knows defeat. Instead, we choose to move forward with new strategies, plans and direction,' the statement added.
