Anwar puzzled by calls to extend RON95 price cut to foreigners

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended the government's decision to exclude foreigners from enjoying the subsidised RON95 petrol price of RM1.99 per litre, stressing that the subsidy is meant exclusively for Malaysians. Speaking at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign, Anwar said, 'This is not discrimination, but the policy of a sovereign nation prioritising its people.' Foreigners and tourists, including those from Singapore, will pay the market rate of RM2.50 to RM2.60 per litre. He also questioned opposition claims that foreigners contribute to the national economy, asking, 'In what part of the world are foreigners treated the same as citizens?' Anwar added that the targeted subsidy approach is expected to reduce government spending that was previously extended to non-taxpaying foreign nationals. Despite criticism over the six-sen reduction, he emphasised it was a carefully considered move aligned with the MADANI government's commitment to social justice. —July 27, 2025 Main image: Sinar Daily

Subsidised petrol RM1.99 for Malaysians only, says PM Anwar

MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has clarified that the subsidised price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre is exclusively for Malaysian citizens, while foreigners will pay the market rate of RM2.50 to RM2.60 per litre. Speaking at the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 Campaign launch at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Anwar emphasised that the policy ensures government subsidies benefit only Malaysians. 'RON95 petrol is sold to Malaysians at RM1.99 per litre. Foreigners and tourists, including those from Singapore, will have to pay the market rate of RM2.50 or RM2.60 per litre. This is not discrimination but a sovereign nation's policy to protect its people's welfare,' he said. The targeted subsidy initiative aims to reduce government expenditure, which has long been enjoyed by foreigners who do not contribute taxes or directly support the national economy. Present at the event were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Information Department director-general Julina Johan. - Bernama

Madani communities to get simplified info within 24 hours after announcements

MELAKA: The nationwide Madani Community will receive simplified explanations of government announcements within 24 hours after they are made, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said this initiative aims to ensure accurate information reaches grassroots levels in an easily understandable format. 'For technical matters, it may be difficult, but we want the Madani Community to get the simplest explanation,' Fahmi said during the 2025 Peninsular Malaysia Madani Community Retreat, yesterday. The event, held at Mini Stadium Bistari in Ayer Keroh, also marked the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign. Around 2,300 participants from 1,406 Madani Communities attended the retreat. Also present were Melaka Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan, Senior Division Secretary (Management) of the Ministry of Communications Mazlan Abd Mutalib, and Information Department director-general Julina Johan. Fahmi highlighted that one of the major upcoming announcements is the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), set to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 31. He acknowledged that such plans often contain complex technical details but assured that simplified breakdowns would be provided to Madani Community members for easier dissemination. 'But within 24 hours, the Madani Community will receive simplified explanations and breakdowns so that they can communicate the information in an easy-to-understand way to their respective communities,' he said. Addressing recent political developments, Fahmi dismissed concerns over Anwar's position as Prime Minister following a rally in Kuala Lumpur. He clarified that changing a Prime Minister requires either a parliamentary vote of no confidence or a general election. 'Previously, the Prime Minister had already told (the Opposition) to move a vote of no confidence, but to this day the motion has not been submitted,' he said. - Bernama

MADANI Communities To Receive Further Details Within 24 Hours After Announcements

MELAKA, July 26 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Community nationwide will receive further details related to any announcement within 24 hours after it is made, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the measure was to deliver accurate information directly to the grassroots in each locality. 'For technical matters, it may be difficult, but we want the MADANI Community to get the simplest explanation,' he said at the 2025 Peninsular Malaysia MADANI Community Retreat held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 at Mini Stadium Bistari, Ayer Keroh here tonight. The retreat, attended by around 2,300 participants from 1,406 MADANI Communities, was also joined by Melaka Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan. Also present were Senior Division Secretary (Management) of the Ministry of Communications, Mazlan Abd Mutalib, and Information Department director-general Julina Johan. Meanwhile, Fahmi said among the major announcements to be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) on July 31. He said the tabling of a Malaysia Plan usually involved highly technical details related to the country's physical development, such as the construction of hospitals and schools. 'But within 24 hours, the MADANI Community will receive simplified explanations and breakdowns so that they can communicate the information in an easy-to-understand way to their respective communities. 'So this will be a new thing, because I want the MADANI Community to grasp and absorb any government announcement quickly,' he said.

Dodol Telur, Gelembung Buaya A Hit At National Month Launch In Muar

MUAR, July 26 (Bernama) -- The rich, creamy flavour and soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture of 'dodol telur' and 'dodol gelembung buaya', made by Kelantan-born Nur Atikah Syazwani Hassan, quickly won over visitors at the launch of the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign here. Made using family recipes passed down since 1970, the traditional Malay delicacies from Kampung Laut, Kelantan, are slow-cooked for four to five hours to retain their authentic flavour and texture. 'Dodol telur is special because it's made with eggs and coconut milk, slowly cooked until the mixture thickens. We only make it once a year. It has a creamy egg flavour with just the right amount of sweetness. 'For dodol gelembung buaya, we add fresh young coconut flesh and produce it in two colours, green and orange, unlike regular dodol which is made only with coconut milk,' she told Bernama when met at the MADANI Community Entrepreneurship booth at Dataran Tanjung Emas here today. She said the response to both products was very encouraging, with many first-time visitors praising the dodol's unique flavour and texture. The dodol, priced at RM11 for 500 grammes and RM21 for one kilogramme, is packed straight from the 'kawah' (large cooking pot) to preserve its soft texture and authentic flavour. 'Customers will receive dodol with a soft texture. If stored properly, it can last up to a week. To me, this is also a way of keeping Malay heritage food alive. 'Through platforms like the MADANI Community Entrepreneurship booth, I hope this heritage food from Kampung Laut can reach a wider market,' she said. Nur Atikah Syazwani was among 16 local entrepreneurs from across the country selected to showcase their products at the MADANI Community Entrepreneurship booth, held in conjunction with the three-day event.
