Poll: The most trusted news source for young men
A new poll shows that men 18-45 believe that long-form podcasts are more trustworthy than traditional news sources like cable news and legacy media networks. Eighteen percent of men 18-45 selected long form podcasts like the one hosted by comedian Joe Rogan and the Ruthless Podcast as the most trustworthy and honest source of information about politics and government, according to polling from National Research, Inc. exclusively shared with the Daily Mail. Fourteen percent of men in the same age demographic chose social media from X and TikTok as the most trustworthy news sources, followed by 14 percent who cited legacy and cable news networks like ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC/MSNBC. xTwelve percent of young men cited newspapers like the New York Times and the Washington Post. Another 12 percent chose the liberal cable news channel MSNBC with 28 percent saying they were 'not sure.' The poll of 1,000 registered voters in the United States was conducted by the Republican pollster. 'What we are seeing is a massive shift in how younger people and Republicans consume news and information and I think podcasts like Ruthless and Rogan are really out the forefront of this,' Adam Geller, the CEO of National Research Inc. told the Daily Mail. Overall, 20 percent of Americans consider conservative cable news networks like Fox News more trustworthy followed closely by legacy media outlets at 17 percent. But the trend for younger voters toward podcast was notable, Geller said. He said he threw the question in about podcasts in his polling routine and included the name of the Ruthless Podcast with Rogan's podcast to get perspective from younger voters. Geller said his own media habits shifted during the election, and grew to enjoy both Rogan and the Ruthless podcast, hosted by Republican political operatives Josh Holmes, John Ashbrook, Michael Duncan, and 'Comfortably Smug' in Washington, DC. 'Trust in the media is going down,' he said. 'I do find it very, very informative.' While Joe Rogan consistently tops all podcast rankings, Ruthless currently sits at #30 in politics and #95 in news, according to Apple podcast charts. The Ruthless podcast built up their audience during the 2024 campaign, most notably going on a fishing trip with Trump's running mate Sen. JD Vance and frequently appearing with journalist Megyn Kelly on her podcast to comment on the presidential race. The trend toward podcasts and the Trump campaign's ability to seize on that trend helped the president win in 2024. The Ruthless podcast grew in influence after one of the hosts John Ashbrook appeared in the 'new media seat' created by Trump press officials in the White House press briefing room. Ashbrook's viral appearance at the White House press briefing in January, helped them reach new levels of popularity and grow their subscriber base.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) continues to strengthen its role in the development of forest resource-based technology and innovation through the comprehensive execution of research, development, commercialisation, and application (RDCA) activities. FRIM said the initiative represents a strategic effort by the institute to support Malaysia's aspiration of becoming a high-tech nation by the year 2030. 'In line with the Forestry Research Institute Malaysia Act 2016 and the National Research, Development, Innovation, Commercialisation and Economic (RDICE) Roadmap, FRIM plays a key role within the national innovation ecosystem by fostering collaboration between the research sector, industry, and government. 'This effort is guided by the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (NSTIP) 2021-2030, which aims to achieve research and innovation investments totaling RM85.7 billion,' FRIM said in a statement. It added that it plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between research laboratories and the market by actively participating in national initiatives such as Malaysia Commercialisation Year and working closely with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). According to FRIM, several approaches have been implemented to drive innovation, including the provision of technology packages, product certification, technical advisory services, and incubation activities through its Innovation and Commercialisation Division. 'FRIM's intellectual property is managed through the Technology Information Management System (TIMS), ensuring that innovation outputs are well-protected and ready for commercialisation. These efforts are further supported by its wholly owned subsidiary, FRIM Incorporated Sdn Bhd, which plays a pivotal role in facilitating technology licensing and translating research outcomes to meet market demands,' it said. 'Among FRIM's key achievements is the successful commercialisation of clones and extracts from local herbs such as Kacip Fatimah (Labisia pumila) and Cucur Atap (Baeckea frutescens) which are now incorporated into natural wellness products with strong potential to enter international markets. The institute also provides consultancy and technology transfer services to both government agencies and the private sector. These services encompass a wide range of areas, including biomass product development, plantation silviculture, eco-friendly product certification, and biodiversity mapping.

Dust in the system — How Saharan storms threaten Europe's solar power future
As Europe increases its reliance on solar energy to meet climate and energy security targets, a growing atmospheric phenomenon is complicating the path forward: Saharan dust. New research presented at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly (EGU25) shows that mineral dust carried on the wind from North Africa is not only reducing photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation across Europe but also making it harder to predict. In their presentation at EGU25, The shadow of the wind: photovoltaic power generation under Europe's dusty skies, Dr. György Varga and collaborators from Hungarian and European institutions reveal how dust-laden skies disrupt PV performance and challenge existing forecasting models. Their work, grounded in field data from more than 46 Saharan dust events between 2019 and 2023, spans both Central Europe (Hungary) and Southern Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and Greece). The Sahara releases billions of tonnes of fine dust into the atmosphere every year, and tens of millions of tonnes reach European skies. These particles scatter and absorb sunlight, reduce irradiance at the surface, and can even promote cloud formation — all of which degrade PV output. The researchers found that conventional forecasting tools, which use static aerosol climatologies, frequently miss the mark during these events. Instead, the team recommends integrating near-real-time dust load data and aerosol-cloud coupling into forecasting models. This would allow for more reliable scheduling of solar energy and better preparedness for the variability introduced by atmospheric dust. 'There's a growing need for dynamic forecasting methods that account for both meteorological and mineralogical factors,' says Varga. 'Without them, the risk of underperformance and grid instability will only grow as solar becomes a larger part of our energy mix.' Beyond atmospheric effects, the team also points out to the long-term impacts of dust on the physical infrastructure of solar panels, including contamination and erosion — factors that can further reduce efficiency and increase maintenance costs. This research contributes to ongoing efforts in Hungary and the EU to improve climate resilience and renewable energy management. It is supported by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (FK138692), the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the EU-funded National Multidisciplinary Laboratory for Climate Change.
