Anjum Moudgil, Saurabh Chaudhary back in India reckoning after shooting trials
Anjum Moudgil NEW DELHI: Olympian shooters Anjum Moudgil and Saurabh Chaudhary are back in reckoning for India team spots along with world championship bronze medallist Mehuli Ghosh, following their encouraging performances in the National Selection Trials 3&4 for rifle and pistol in Dehradun recently. India's leading female rifle shooter and two-time Olympian Anjum had missed out on the first half of the international season comprising three World Cups, but following her fine showing in the 50m rifle 3-positions event she is back among the top-three having replaced Paris Olympian Shriyanka Sadangi, as per the National Rifle Association of India's latest domestic rankings list for Group A (eligible for India selection) shooters. World record holder Sift Kaur Samra remains the top-ranked 3P woman shooter in the country with an average of 593.38, followed by Ashi Chouksey (592.25) and Anjum (591.68). Shriyanka (589.90), Mehuli (588.58), and Surabhi Bharadwaj (588.08) complete the top six in the highly-competitive field. Former Asian Games gold medallist Chaudhary is back as India No.1 in men's 10m air pistol with an average score of 583.93, followed by Aditya Malra (582.75) and Anmol Jain (582.33). Amit Sharma (582), Nishant Rawat (582), and Samrat Rana (581.45) are fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Among 10m air rifle shooters, 2024 Asian Championship gold medallist Mehuli has regained the domestic No. 1 spot with an average of 633.65, followed by Elavenil Valarivan (633.28) and Ananya Naidu (632.83). Arya Rajesh Borse (632.25), Ramita (632.05), and Sonam Uttam Maskar (631.60) also feature in the top six. In women's 10m air pistol, Suruchi continues to dominate the national circuit with an average score of 588.25. She enjoying a nearly 10-point lead over her No.2 Palak (578.38). Paris Olympics double bronze medallist Manu Bhaker and Surbhi Rao both average 578 after the trials. Rhythm Sangwan (577.88) and Esha Singh (577.83) follow closely at fifth and sixth spots, respectively. When Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir looked at the pitch to decide India Playing XI Manu, who skipped T3 and T4 rounds, continues to lead the 25m sports pistol rankings with an average score of 588.65. Simranpreet Kaur Brar (583.75), Esha Singh (583.50), Rahi Sarnobat (582.28), Abhidnya Patil (580.43), and Divya T.S. (580.38) round off the top six. Anish Bhanwala, after winning Trials 3&4, is the No.1 25m rapid-fire pistol marksman with an average of 581.25. He is followed by Neeraj Kumar (578.75) and Adarsh Singh (578.55). The next three spots are held by Bhavesh Shekhawat (576.63), Pradeep Singh Shekhawat (576.30), and Mandeep Singh (576.00). In men's 10m air rifle, reigning Asian champion Rudrankksh Patil sits on top with an average of 633.98, just 0.58 ahead of Arjun Babuta (633.40). Kiran Jadhav, with an average score of 632.35 tops, is third. Chain Singh retains the top spot in men's 3P event with average score of 592.63, while Olympian Akhil Sheoran (591.35) is second and Aishwary Pratap Singh is third. Niraj Kumar (591.25), Paris Olympic bronze medallist Swapnil Kushale (589.15), and Army Marksmanship Unit's Babu Singh (587.05) complete the top six. National Selection Trials: Suruchi Singh & Saurabh Chaudhary Win 10m Pistol T4
Last Updated: Suruchi Inder Singh and Saurabh Chaudhary excelled at the National Selection Trials 3 & 4 in Raipur. Suruchi Inder Singh continued her remarkable form this season, finishing at the top of the T4 10m Pistol Women event. Olympian Saurabh Chaudhary claimed the top spot in the men's event on the final day of the National Selection Trials 3 & 4 (Rifle & Pistol) for Group 'A' athletes at the Trishul Shooting Range, Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur. Both athletes also led their respective qualification rounds with high scores of 588 and 587 respectively. Suruchi dominated the finals from the start, finishing with a score of 244.3, 3.1 points ahead of Anjali Shekhawat, who secured second place. The experienced Rahi Sarnobat finished third with a score of 221.6. Olympians Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh took fourth and fifth places with scores of 202.5 and 179.6. Sainyam, K.M. Priyanka Patel, and D. Padma completed the final lineup. Suruchi shot an impressive 588-20x in qualification, finishing ahead of Anjali and Rahi, who shot 584-25x and 579-23x respectively to secure the top three spots. Priyanka Patel (579-18x), Sainyam (579-16x), Manu (577-21x), D. Padma (577-21x), and Esha (577-18x) completed the top eight. What Suruchi After Winning? 'There's really no big secret to how I shoot. I don't look at the clock or think about how fast I'm going, I just keep shooting until it's done. The rhythm takes over, and everything flows naturally, and that's probably what helps me stay focused. For now, I'm looking forward to the Haryana State Championships and then we head into the national camp. Step by step, I just want to keep doing my best, said Suruchi after her double wins in the trials. In the men's final, Saurabh secured the top spot with a score of 245.7, just 0.4 points ahead of Subhash Sihag, who finished with a score of 245.3. Aditya Malra took third place with a score of 223.5. T3 winner Samrat Rana finished fourth, while Ujjawal Malik, Ajay Kumar Ambawat, Amit Sharma, and Rajan Tomar were the other finalists. Earlier in qualification, Saurabh led the field with a score of 587. The competition for the top eight places was fiercely contested, with Ujjawal (583-22x), Rajan Tomar (583-21x), Amit Sharma (582-24x), Subhash Sihag (582-22x), Ajay Kumar (582-19x), Aditya (582-18x), and Samrat (582-17x) completing the lineup. Shooting National Selection Trials: Esha Singh among three winners on Thursday
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 26 (ANI): Olympian and reigning mixed team pistol world champion Esha Singh, was among the three winners on day three of the National Selection Trials 3 and 4 for Group A Rifle and Pistol shooters on Thursday. The competition is currently underway here at the Trishul Shooting range in the Uttarakhand capital. While Telangana's Esha won the 25m pistol women T3 competition, Kerala's Vidarsa Vinod took the 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) T4 honours and Maharashtra's Parth Rakesh Mane, won the 10m air rifle men T4 title, in what was another day of intense competition among the best rifle and pistol shooters of India. Esha shot a 580 to take third spot in qualifications, but stamped her class in the finals when needed most, that is towards the end stages, to completely blow away Maharashtra's Abhidnya Ashok Patil, who had to settle for silver. Tamil Nadu's Niveditha Nair came third, as per a press release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). Abhidnya, who had topped qualification with a quality 585, was ahead of Esha by two till the seventh series of the 10-series final, but the Olympian finished with two perfect series of five-hits and four-hits in the final series to end on a score of 41. Abhidnya scored a total of seven points in the final three series to end with 36, while Niveditha exited after the ninth series to take third with a score of 30. In the men's 10m air rifle T4, as is the normal in international competitions, the eighth and final qualification berth went at 630.6 after 60 shots. Two-time Olympian and 3P specialist Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar topped it with a 633.5, while Parth qualified fourth with 631.9. Winner of the T3 trial Uma Mahesh Maddineni, took the early lead in the finals, which also featured former world number one and world record holder Divyansh Singh Panwar and three shooters from the Army compete. Junior World Championship medalist Parth, was hovering around third throughout the initial stages, went into joint lead with Aishwary, only after the 16th single shot of the eliminations stage. The 17th, a 10.7, took him to sole lead, and he held on gamely after that to take the win, finishing with 251.8. Aishwary's chase fell 0.3 short of Parth as he took second, while Uma settled for third place on the day. In the women's 3P T4 final, Kerala's Vidarsa Vinod got the better of a star-studded field, finishing with 462.7 after 45 shots, to edge out Punjab's former world championship silver medalist and two-time Olympian Anjum Moudgil by 0.3 points. Haryana's Nischal, a World Cup silver-medalist, was third. Earlier, T3 winner Sift Kaur Samra of Punjab topped the qualifications with a superb 594, edging out world championship medalist Mehuli Ghosh by a point. The winner took the sixth qualifying spot with a score of 587. The trials continue on day four Friday, with two finals, the 10m air rifle women T3 and the 25m rapid-fire pistol men T4, on the roster. His Paris Olympics teammate Vijayveer Sidhu (99,99,94) followed closely to take second spot with 292, while Anish's statemate from Haryana, Mandeep Singh, stood third with 290, the statement added. Rounding off the top five were Pradeep Singh Shekhawat (Navy) with 290 and Uttarakhand's own Ankur Goel with 289. The top six shooters after Stage 2 of qualification will advance to the final of the event. The action continues on Wednesday with Stage 2 of the men's RFP T3 qualifications, preceding the final. Two more finals, the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women and the 10m Air Rifle Men, are also scheduled for Day 2. These trials will help in shaping the Indian shooting team for the 16th Asian Shooting Championships 2025 in Kazakhstan in August and the ISSF World Cup in Ningbo, China, in September. (ANI)
