Watch: Fire breaks out at telecoms building in Cairo; millions affected by internet disruptions
A massive fire erupted on Monday at a major telecommunications building in Downtown Cairo, causing widespread disruption to internet and phone services that affected millions of users for several hours. The fire, which engulfed Ramses Central building, a building that dates back to nearly 100 years ago, resulted in 14 injuries, as per Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population. Seventeen ambulances were dispatched to the scene to handle the fire which lasted for several hours. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and as of now, no official cause has been determined or publicly disclosed. However, an initial examination indicated that the fire was likely to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, Egypt's state news agency (MENA) cited a security source as saying. It added that the fire had been prevented from spreading to the entire building and neighbouring rooftops. "A fire broke out this evening in one of the equipment rooms at the Ramses switchboard of the Egyptian Telecommunications Company, which led to a temporary disruption of telecommunications services," the National Telecom Regulatory Authority said in a statement. A video shared by popular Egyptian news website Youm7 showed firefighters working to put out the flames in efforts that continued throught the evening hours. Take a look: Major disruption Millions of Egyptians were reporting disruptions in telecoms services through providers like Orange, e&, Vodafone and we. Users of e-payment platforms like Instapay, Fawry and Vodafone Cash also reported being affected for hours. People were unable to make phone calls, and a major internet disruption was registered, with internet monitoring group Netblocks saying network data showed national connectivity at 62% of ordinary levels. Amr Talaat, Egypt's Minister of Telecomunications, visited the scene of the fire and pledged that all services will be fully restored by Tuesday morning.

Cairo Building Fire Disrupts Some Telecom Services Across Egypt
A blaze that broke out in a Cairo central telecommunications building disrupted some services in Egypt, according to the National Telecom Regulatory Authority. The regulator didn't detail the scope of what it described as a 'temporary' outage of telecommunication services. Users complained of unstable phone and internet service.

Egypt's Telecom Authority Sets Deadline for Customs Duties on Imported Phones
Taarek Refaat The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) warned customers in a post on its official Facebook page that they must pay the 37.5% customs duty on imported phone devices before April 7th. The NTRA stated that the phones will be permanently suspended until the fees due to the Egyptian state are paid after this date.
