Kerala government to give 10 lakhs to kin of Kottayam Medical College building collapse victim
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Bindu Visruthan, who was killed due to the building collapse in Kottayam Medical College. The cabinet has decided to allot the amount from the Chief Minister's disaster relief fund. The cabinet has also instructed the Travancore Devaswom Board to provide a suitable job to the victim's son, Navaneeth. The tragic death of the Vaikom native happened on July 3, when part of a 68-year old building in the Kottayam Medical College Hospital collapsed. Bindu and her husband Visrytan had come to the hospital for the surgery of their 20-year-old daughter. The incident sparked political outrage, with opposition parties demanding the resignation of Health Minister Veena George.

Family unhappy with temporary job offered to Bindu's son
Kottayam: The family of D Bindu, who was killed in the building collapse at the Kottayam medical college hospital (MCH), have said that they are not happy with the temporary job offered by the govt to Bindu's son Navaneeth at the MCH. Bindu's husband Visruthan told reporters on Saturday that his son is a BTech in civil engineering, and the family wants the govt to give him a job based on his educational qualifications. Minister VN Vasavan, who visited the family on Friday evening after Bindu's funeral, said that the govt will take care of the treatment of Bindu's daughter Navami, give Navaneeth a temporary job at the MCH, while the cabinet will decide on the compensation amount to be given to the family. Though Visruthan indicated that the family is unlikely to go ahead with a complaint, he sounded unhappy over the job offered by the govt to his son. Navaneeth was planning to hand over the first salary he received working as a delivery boy to his mother before tragedy struck. Meanwhile, the Kottayam district collector will be handing over a primary report to the govt on the basis of which the cabinet will fix the compensation amount for the family. Navami will be admitted back to the MCH for further treatment on Monday. 5L from Chandy foundation Meanwhile, MLA Chandy Oommen told Visruthan that the Rs 5 lakh from the Oommen Chandy Foundation will be handed over to the family within 10 days. Oommen also visited the old hostel block for men on the MCH campus, which was in a dilapidated condition. He said that from the road leading up to the hostel to the entire building itself were in pathetic condition. The cement plastering at many places had come out. Speaking to reporters, Oommen urged the panchayat and the govt to act fast and conduct an examination of the fitness of the building.
