Kangana Ranaut Backs Banning OTT Platforms For Soft Porn Content: 'Highly Appreciated'
Last Updated: The government has directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable public access to 25 OTT platforms. Actress and politician Kangana Ranaut has wholeheartedly welcomed the government's decision to ban OTT platforms such as Ullu, ALTT, and Desiflix for showing soft porn content. The government has directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable public access to 25 OTT platforms – Big Shots App, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks. Speaking exclusively to IANS, the 'Queen' actress lauded the government's decision, saying that it was crucial to preserve our culture and future generations. Kangana told IANS, 'In order to preserve the overall culture of our country and the future path of our youngsters, and so that our society does not collapse completely, this step was much-awaited and is now much-appreciated. The action taken against these apps, especially the illegal ones, is highly appreciated." The government has asked the Internet Service Providers to disable or remove public access to these websites within the country. According to the media report, 'MIB has also intimated to the Director (DS-II), Department of Telecommunications, with a request to facilitate compliance by the ISPs." The above-mentioned apps have been found in violation of various laws, such as Section 67 and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Refreshing your memory, back in April, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court asking for a ban on sexually explicit content on OTT and social media. Responding to the petition, the Apex court said, 'It's not our domain, you do something". However, SC stressed the need for executive action in the matter. Meanwhile, talking about Kangana Ranaut, the actress was last seen in Emergency. The film, which was released in January this year, was a biopic of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Grandhi. Ekta Kapoor Clarifies Her Exit From ALTT In 2021 Amid Streaming Ban: 'Not Associated In Any Capacity'
Last Updated: Ekta Kapoor, who co-founded ALTT under Balaji Telefilms, has now distanced herself from the platform in a strongly-worded statement shared via her social media. Ekta Kapoor has officially clarified that she has had no association with the streaming platform ALTT since June 2021. The statement comes shortly after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) banned the platform alongside several others, citing the promotion of objectionable and pornographic content. According to the MIB, a total of 25 digital links and platforms were flagged for circulating explicit material through advertisements. These included ALTT, ULLU, Big Shots app, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab app, Kangan app, Bull app, and Jalva app, among others. Ekta Kapoor, who co-founded ALTT under Balaji Telefilms, has now distanced herself from the platform in a strongly-worded statement shared via her social media. View this post on Instagram A post shared by EktaaRkapoor (@ektarkapoor) Balaji Telefilms also stressed that it is fully compliant with applicable laws and operates with the highest standards of corporate governance. Interestingly, this is not the first time Ekta Kapoor has spoken about the challenges and bold choices behind launching ALTT, formerly known as ALTBalaji. In an interview with journalist Faye D'Souza, Ekta admitted that being 'risque" was a deliberate part of the platform's strategy. 'I had gone for a holiday, and my son was inside the house and I didn't know what was happening," she said, recounting the time there was a protest outside her residence due to ALTT's content. 'Absolutely, yes. I would not deny the strategy," she admitted when asked if being provocative was intentional. Defending her content choices, Ekta said, 'I feel bad girls make history… you have to be out there, and some people will hate you, but you have to say what you believe in." She further clarified, 'I always say that I don't have a problem with sex. I have a lot of problems with sexual crime." She also revealed her vision of making ALTT a sex-positive platform curated by women. 'We are going to normalise sex for the world… and wear it on our sleeves," she said, arguing that showcasing women in bold roles was just as progressive as portraying them in traditional attire. view comments First Published: July 26, 2025, 00:33 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
