Visit of Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri to Mauritius

Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri paid an official visit to the Republic of Mauritius on 01 July 2025. This was his second visit to Mauritius as Foreign Secretary. 2. The visit followed the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on 24 June 2025, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing cooperation across a broad range of areas and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between India and Mauritius. 3. During the visit, Foreign Secretary called on the President, H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, the Prime Minister, H.E. Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Paul Berenger and the Foreign Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Dhananjay Ramful and met key Mauritian leaders and officials. 4. In his meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Foreign Secretary reiterated the invitation of Prime Minister Modi to PM Ramgoolam to visit India. Both sides held discussions on the entire range of bilateral cooperation. Foreign Secretary sought guidance to further strengthen the special and close ties and conveyed India's continued commitment to the development, progress and prosperity of Mauritius. As part of the commitment to work together to address challenges faced by Mauritius on account of increase in drug-addiction and related social issues, Foreign Secretary handed over specialized anti-drug equipment to FM Ramful. 5. The visit is part of continued high-level exchanges between two countries and reflects the importance India attaches to its relations with Mauritius. In line with our Neighbourhood First policy, Vision MAHASAGAR and our commitment to the Global South, the visit reaffirmed the continued commitment from both sides to deepen the multi-dimensional bilateral partnership for the prosperity and development of both countries and the larger Indian Ocean Region. New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with his Mauritius counterpart Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam and the two leaders discussed cooperation across a broad range of areas, including, defence and maritime security. Emphasising the special and unique ties between India and Mauritius, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between the two countries. 'They discussed the ongoing cooperation across a broad range of areas, including development partnership, capacity building, defence, maritime security, digital infrastructure, and people-to-people ties,' a PMO release said. PM Modi appreciated the whole-hearted participation of PM Ramgoolam in the 11th International Day of Yoga. He reiterated India's steadfast commitment to the development priorities of Mauritius in line with Vision MAHASAGAR and India's Neighbourhood First policy. PM Modi extended invitation to PM Ramgoolan for an early visit to India. Both leaders agreed to remain in touch. Since 2005, India has been among the largest trading partners of Mauritius. For the FY2023-24Indian exports to Mauritius was USD 778.03 mn, Mauritian exports to India was USD73.10mnandtotal trade was USD 851.13 mn. Trade has grown in the last 18 years, fromUSD206.76millionin2005-06 to USD 851.13 million in 2023-24. (ANI)

It is the highest civilian honour in Mauritius. This marked the first time an Indian leader received this prestigious award.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on Monday in Nice, highlighted Morocco's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in uniting Africa's voice around ocean governance and the sustainable management of marine resources. In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of the Africa for the Ocean Summit, co-chaired by Morocco and France, Ramgoolam commended HM King Mohammed VI for "this very significant" initiative of bringing African leaders together to speak with one voice on the preservation of our oceans and maritime resources. He also praised the numerous initiatives launched by the Kingdom, driven by the Sovereign's leadership, which "play a key role in unifying the voice of Africans." "This is a first step, particularly for the Atlantic, toward establishing a comprehensive and coordinated policy and strategy." The "Africa for the Ocean" Summit, co-chaired by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Representative of His Majesty the King, and French President Emmanuel Macron, was held as part of the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), which continues in Nice through June 13.
