Soon, Haryana's Saini govt to recruit for 24,800 junior-level posts
After recruiting nearly 24,000 youths for government jobs during the oath ceremony in October 2024, the Nayab Singh Saini-led government is now set to offer an additional 24,800 junior-level posts in the coming months. To shortlist candidates for Group-C positions, one round of the Common Eligibility Test (CET) has already been conducted, while preparations are underway for the next exam. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's media secretary Praveen Attrey told The Indian Express on Thursday that 'as many as 24,800 posts for Group C and Group D would be filled after another round of Common Eligibility Test (CET)'. The CET, organised by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), serves as a preliminary written examination to screen candidates for government roles. The Group C posts include various roles such as junior engineers, clerks, excise and taxation inspectors, auditors, assistant managers, patwaris, and male and female police constables, while Group D roles in Haryana include various entry-level positions in government departments, including peon, animal attendant, helper, gardener, cook and water carrier. The CET for Group-C posts, held on July 26 and 27, saw participation from nearly 12.22 lakh eligible candidates. Conducted over the weekend at 1,350 centres across the state, the exam registered an exceptional 92% turnout. HSSC chairman Himmat Singh described this level of attendance as 'a possible national record', noting that it was 'far beyond the usual 55–60% seen in competitive exams'. In the next phase, the main examination for Group-C recruitment will be conducted, with participation open to a candidate pool 10 times the number of available positions. The CET for Group-D posts is expected to be held in September, with officials anticipating participation from nearly 17 lakh candidates. The scale of this exercise will require extensive logistical coordination. So far, appointments to Group-D posts have been made solely based on performance in the Common Eligibility Test (CET). The schedule for the second exam of Group-C posts is not yet clear, but it will likely be held this year only, the officials said. Excited over the successful execution of the recent CET, Himmat Singh said: 'We have received calls from some commissions that also execute competitive exams for government jobs. They are keen to know how we executed such an exam involving lakhs of candidates successfully.' He added: 'Officials from some of the commissions have even planned to visit Haryana to see the system and pattern adopted for successful execution of the exam.' To support candidates logistically, Haryana transport authorities had operated more than 30,000 bus rounds, providing free transportation. In partnership with social organisations, the government also arranged overnight lodging for candidates travelling from distant areas. 'Through AI-based monitoring and CCTV, incidents like cheating and paper leaks were completely prevented. We kept a close watch on all centres, and now the CCTV footage will be reviewed to prepare the final report. This technological approach not only enhances transparency but also instils trust in fairness among candidates,' Singh remarked. CM Saini inspected arrangements in Panchkula, issuing directions to officials to ensure every possible assistance was extended to candidates. Bihar in sight, Haryana BJP govt all set to roll out Lado-Lakshmi Yojana
In a move that the party may showcase in its campaign for the Bihar Assembly polls, the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government in Haryana is set to implement the Lado-Lakshmi Yojana it had promised before the state elections. The scheme entails monthly financial aid of Rs 2,100 to eligible women. Sources said that the draft policy, prepared by the Social Justice Department, has been forwarded for final approval to Chief Minister Saini, who is likely to package it as a 'gift for Haryana's women' and officially roll it out before Rakshabandhan. 'The BJP made a promise to the sisters and mothers of Haryana ahead of last year's Assembly polls. We have worked on the modalities and have sent it to the CM's office. Saini will officially launch the scheme in the coming days,' Social Justice Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi said. According to the draft policy, the scheme will be rolled out in four phases. Women falling below the poverty line (BPL) with an annual income of less than Rs 1.8 lakh, who number around 46 lakh, would be covered in the first phase. 'The poorest of the poor, whose annual income is below Rs 1 lakh, may be given priority,' an official said. Officials said assistance under the scheme, which has a budgetary allocation of Rs 5,000 crore, 'may be increased' once the government finalises the actual number of beneficiaries. Officials peg the number of women between the age groups 18 and 60 to be around 75 lakh, but said employed women and the almost 8.5 lakh women who already avail social security benefits like widow, destitute, retirement and abandonment pension are likely to be excluded from the scheme. 'The eligibility criteria is yet to be finalised by the CM's office,' sources said. The Saini government's initiative is in line with other BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, where the Ladli Behen Yojana and Ladki Bahin Yojana were rolled out respectively ahead of Assembly polls, and seemingly played a key role in bringing the party back to power. Earlier this month, Saini too hinted that the scheme may be rolled out soon and said his government was coming up with a portal for eligible women to register themselves even as officials said that the portal will go live immediately after the CM makes an announcement. Currently, the Haryana government implements schemes like the Aapki Beti, Humari Beti; Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao; Mukhyamantri Matrushakti Udyamita Yojana; Mahila Adhikarita Yojana; Kanyadaan scheme; and Drone Didi to cater to girl children, women entrepreneurs, widows, and women belonging to backward communities.

Murder of liquor contractors: Dushyant alleges nexus between police, criminals
Chandigarh/Rohtak: Taking on Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP govt over the murder of two liquor contractors and rising extortion cases in the state, former deputy CM Dushyant Chautala on Monday said a nexus between some police officials and criminal elements had led to this breakdown in law and order in the state. Interacting with media after extending support to agitating workers in PGIMS Rohtak, Dushyant claimed that two DSP-rank officers and four inspectors were colluding with anti-social elements, and both the chief minister and DGP were aware of this, but they remained silent. "We are ready to name these officers," he added. Dushyant said a lack of experienced officers in the police had also emboldened criminals, who were now operating without fear. He said the CM and DGP made "hollow statements" instead of acting decisively on the ground. "They just keep repeating that criminals should leave Haryana, but there is no real action," he said. Dushyant also expressed serious concern over job security of workers employed under contractual systems and demanded that all such workers be absorbed into Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN). Dushyant also alleged a major scam within PGIMS, claiming that fake names had been added to the employees' rolls and relatives of senior officers were being paid more than genuine contract workers. He said he will compile a list of such fake entries and write to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), demanding a thorough investigation. Speaking about party affairs, Dushyant said JJP was actively working to strengthen its organisational structure. "A membership drive was launched on June 15 across 22 districts, receiving an enthusiastic response from youth," he said.

Haryana govt finally blinks, sets up panel to break HAU standoff
Ten days after peacefully protesting students of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) Hisar, were lathi-charged, the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government on Friday finally 'took cognizance' of the incident, setting up a four-member panel to hold talks with the students and resolve the standoff. The students at CCSHAU, Hisar, have been protesting since June 10 in the wake of a clash with university staff. (HT File) The panel includes education minister Mahipal Dhanda; public works minister Ranbir Gangwa; social justice and empowerment minister Krishan Kumar Bedi, and Nalwa segment MLA Randhir Panihar. The mandate of this committee is to meet the students, hear their grievances and work towards a resolution of the logjam. 'Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, taking cognizance of issues related to CCSHAU, has constituted a four-member committee to hold dialogue with the students,' a government spokesperson said. 'The CM has made it clear that the Haryana government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of youth and students. The government stands with the youth and students at every level,' he added. The students at CCSHAU, Hisar, have been protesting since June 10 in the wake of a clash with university staff. Despite mounting outrage from academics and Opposition political parties over the use of force against the students, administrative apathy, and alleged political interference, the Haryana government had remained silent until now. The unrest began when students gathered outside vice-chancellor BR Kamboj's residence on June 10 to protest changes to the university's stipend structure and the rollback of seat reservations for Land Donation Villages (LDV). The situation escalated when university officials and security personnel allegedly unleashed a brutal lathi-charge, leaving at least 20 students injured. The cane charge was cruel so much so that some students suffered deep head wounds requiring six to 30 stitches. The state government's decision to set up a panel comes ahead of students announcing to hold a mahapanchayat on June 24 against the varsity administration. Students have been observing sit-ins demanding the arrest of two university officials and the resignation of vice-chancellor BR Kamboj in response to a lathi charge on June 10. The university had earlier formed a three-member committee to resolve the issue but the students refused to hold talks with them. They are demanding the arrest of remaining accused named in the FIR, termination of key officials, and protection from disciplinary action against those involved in the protest.
