3 dead as UP roadways bus on wrong side crushes autorickshaw
Bulandshahr: Two women and a four-year-old girl were crushed to death after a speeding UP roadways bus on the wrong side hit an auto-rickshaw on NH-334 in Bulandshahr on Sunday. A man was critically injured. Police said the incident took place around 1:30 pm near Jainpur on NH-334 -- connecting Bulandshahr with Haridwar. "The UP roadways bus was en route to Sitapur. It was on the wrong side of the highway at the time of the incident. The bus driver managed to flee, and the vehicle was seized," circle officer Bhaskar Mishra said. "The place where the accident took place comes under Gulaothi police limits. Soon after the distress call, police rushed to the site. An FIR under BNS sections of rash driving and causing death due to negligence was registered against the bus driver on the complaint from the victim's family. Steven Sim steps in to help stroke victim rebuild family home
BUKIT MERTAJAM: In a touching display of compassion and leadership, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim stepped in to help fulfil the final wish of Mohd Nazim Hashim, who had long dreamed of rebuilding his family home for his elderly mother. Nazim, 40, had been working hard to save enough money to renovate their ageing wooden house in Bukit Minyak, where his 76-year-old mother, Mak Embun, lives. The structure had deteriorated significantly over the years, with rotting doors, cracked walls and a leaking roof, posing safety risks to his frail mother. However, in April, tragedy struck. Nazim suffered a stroke, and his health declined rapidly. When he was finally discharged from hospital, his sister hesitated to bring him home, fearing that the poor condition of the house would worsen his recovery. With nowhere else to turn, the family reached out for help, and Sim responded. Moved by their plight, Sim visited the home and, upon seeing its dire condition, made a decisive decision. He settled the family's existing debt with the contractor and instructed that additional work be expedited to make the house liveable. "I told the contractor to prioritise the repairs. There wasn't much time. "Within a week, the home was repaired. Nazim was able to return and spend time with his mother in the comfort of a safe home — something he had long wished for," Sim said in his Facebook post. Tragically, Nazim passed away just three days later, on June 24. Sim visited the family to offer his condolences and support. "His sister told me it had always been Nazim's dream to rebuild the house so their mother could live comfortably. Though it was brief, he fulfilled that dream," Sim said. To support the family further, Sim ensured that Mak Embun, as Nazim's dependent, would receive a monthly survivor's pension under Perkeso, where Nazim had been a contributor. He also handed over RM3,000 in funeral aid from the organisation. Before leaving, Sim instructed his officers to build a new, safer bathroom to ensure Mak Embun would have proper facilities moving forward. "Even though Nazim is no longer with us, his love for his mother lives on, not only in the home he helped restore, but in the care and support we will continue to provide," he added.

Portion of building on Ajmer Dargah premises collapses, Centre blamed for ‘neglect'
A small portion of a building within the Ajmer Dargah Sharif premises collapsed on Wednesday after heavy rain, raising safety concerns for visitors during the ongoing Chhoti Urs festival. The incident took place around 2 PM, shortly after the afternoon prayers, when the rain impacted the already deteriorating structure. Members of the Dargah Khadim Committee blamed the Central government for 'neglecting the maintenance of the historic religious site'. According to Syed Sarwar Chishti, secretary of the Dargah Anjuman Committee — a body representing hereditary Khadims (priests)—the condition of the building has worsened due to prolonged inaction and corruption within the Dargah Committee, a government-constituted body responsible for the upkeep of the premises. Chishti alleged that the post of Nazim, a key administrative officer of the Dargah Committee, remained vacant for three years until the recent appointment and that even today, positions of nine committee members remain vacant. 'There is so much corruption. Neither does the committee do anything, nor do they let us work. The building is one step away from a disaster, especially during monsoon,' he said. He pointed out that water seeped into Khwaja Saheb's dargah and that a small portion of a hut near Shah Jani Masjid near Chhabili Gate collapsed. Responding to the allegations, Mohammad Bilal Khan, the recently appointed Nazim, a retired DIG of the Border Security Force (BSF), acknowledged the structural issues. He said that repair and maintenance work is already underway and that he had recently held a meeting with Khadims to address their concerns. 'Today's incident was caused by sudden heavy rainfall. There is a seepage issue as the building is very old, but the government is taking care of the matter,' Khan said, adding that several plans will soon be implemented to improve the condition of the shrine.

4 women among 5 held for ‘involvement' in Chandigarh house theft, stolen items recovered
The Chandigarh Police has arrested five people, including four women, allegedly involved in a house theft and have recovered the stolen items. The case was registered on June 24 at Sector 39 police station, Chandigarh, following a complaint by Ashutosh Sharma, a resident of Zirakpur. He reported a theft at his brother's place, House No. 120, Sector 38A, Chandigarh. As per the complaint, items stolen from the house included Rs 23,000 in cash, six mobile phones, mobile earbuds, two cameras, three branded wristwatches, one trimmer, a power bank, various jewellery items, and a black bag. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended Nazim, alias Arman, a 25-year-old resident of Small Flats, Dhanas, on June 25. During his arrest, the police recovered Rs 10,000 in cash, a Kotak 35mm camera with cover, four stolen mobile phones, one trimmer, iPhone earbuds, and a pouch containing gold- and silver-like jewellery. During interrogation, Nazim said that he was a drug addict and used to search for unoccupied or vacated homes to commit theft. To sustain his drug addiction, he would sell stolen items to local women in exchange for heroin. Based on the information provided by Nazim during police remand on June 27, four women were identified as his co-accused and were arrested from Sector 38, Chandigarh. These included Maya, Meenu, Roopa, and Jinna. The police recovered stolen items from these accused, including two mobile phones, one camera, three wristwatches, and one mobile power bank. Police said that Nazim was previously involved in a theft case registered at Sarangpur police station in 2024. Maya has a past record under the NDPS Act from 2017. Meenu, too, has been previously booked under NDPS-related charges in 2022 and 2025. Roopa was involved in a serious case registered in 2024 under multiple sections of the BNS including 121(1), 132, 226, and 3(5). Jinna did not have a previous record mentioned but was found in possession of one wristwatch and a mobile power bank linked to the stolen property. According to police, the modus operandi involved Nazim identifying and breaking into houses that were temporarily unoccupied. He would then exchange the stolen goods for heroin with the co-accused women who were known to him and active in the area. All the arrested individuals have now been sent to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests or recoveries may follow, said the police.

FIR against man for extortion and forced religious conversion
Noida: A case has been registered against a man, who allegedly forced his married colleague into religious conversion and marriage. Azim alias Nazim, a resident of the area, also forcibly took Rs 2 lakh from the woman. The case has been filed under sections 308(3) (extortion) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of BNS and Section 67 of the IT Act. A complaint filed with Phase 2 police said Azim alias Nazim, who "influenced" the woman into a relationship, would often take money from her, amounting to Rs 2 lakh. The Muslim man also began to force her to convert her religion and marry him. When she refused, he threatened to kill her brothers and her children.
