Skipper nabbed, RM367,050 worth of diesel confiscated off Sandakan
SANDAKAN: Marine police foiled an attempt to smuggle subsidised diesel to a neighbouring country using a fishing boat in the early hours of the morning. The operation was uncovered when officers intercepted the vessel in the waters off Pulau Berhala at about 3.15am yesterday. A total of 7,000 litres of diesel were seized, and a 54-year-old boat skipper, believed to be the mastermind, was arrested at the scene. Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Nazri Ibrahim said a patrol team had earlier spotted a trawler heading towards the waters off Taganak. "Checks on the boat led to the discovery of eight fibre tanks filled with diesel believed to be subsidised. "The total estimated value of the seizure is RM367,050," he said in a statement. The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Pakistani man held with RM93,000 worth of untaxed cigarettes

BEAUFORT: A Pakistani man was arrested for allegedly possessing over 23,000 sticks of various cigarette brands suspected to be untaxed, worth more than RM90,000 in Kampung Bingkul here, Info X reported. The 38-year-old suspect was stopped around 6.30pm in a Toyota Vios by officers from the Marine Police Force (PPM) Labuan Operations Base. Advertisement Sabah Region Four PPM Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said the operation followed intelligence gathered by the Marine Intelligence Unit under Op Taring Landai Khas Kontraban. The vehicle was found parked suspiciously behind a sundry shop in Kampung Bingkul, where officers moved in once the driver exited the car. Four detained, 76,800 litres of palm oil seized in Lahad Datu

Sabah marine police Region 4 Commander ACP Nazri Ibrahim said the four suspects, aged between 29 and 53, were arrested at 11.40am. They were believed to be involved in activities involving oil palm products and materials without a valid licence. 'In addition to the crude palm oil, authorities also seized several lorries, oil tanks and tankers used to store and transport the palm oil. 'The total value of the seizure is about RM2.33 million, and the investigation is being conducted under Regulation 5(1)(d) of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Regulations 2005,' he said in a statement here on Saturday. — Bernama
