Murkowski got to yes on $3.3T megabill thanks to spending for Alaska

Republican leaders in the Senate convinced Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, to vote in favor of President Donald Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill" with a series of spending initiatives for her home state. Negotiations over the bill stretched on to the eleventh hour before the bill was passed on Tuesday, with Murkowski opposing the legislation until she secured clean energy tax credits, assurances of oil drilling leases and other priorities for her state. She was seen walking around the Senate floor wearing a blanket and holding a notepad in the later hours of the Senate's "vote-a-rama." "I held my head up and made sure that the people of Alaska are not forgotten in this, but I think that there is more that needs to be done, and I'm not done," Murkowski told reporters after the vote. "I am going to take a nap, though." "What I tried to do was to ensure that my colleagues understood what that means when you live in an area where there are no jobs, it is not a cash economy," she added. "And so I needed help, and I worked to get that every single day." Murkowski Silently Stares Down Nbc Reporter Asking About Her 'Big Beautiful Bill' Vote Senate Majority Leader John Thune may have secured Murkowski's vote earlier if not for the Senate parliamentarian, who struck down several deal sweeteners aimed at Alaska. The Senate passed Trump's bill under the reconciliation process, which requires only a simple majority. The parliamentarian holds the authority to determine whether certain line items fall outside the scope of budget reconciliation, therefore requiring a 60-vote majority. Murkowski also secured the removal of a planned tax on solar and wind energy projects. "[Murkowski] is somebody who studies the issues really, really hard and well," Thune told Politico. "I'm just grateful that at the end of the day she concluded what the rest of us did ... which is that it was the right direction for the future of our country." Gop Senator Calls For Parliamentarian's Firing After Serving Medicaid Blow To Trump's 'Big, Beautiful Bill' While Trump's bill has cleared the Senate, it now faces an uncertain future in the House of Representatives, where many conservative lawmakers have criticized the lack of spending cuts. House Speaker Mike Johnson led Republicans in passing a procedural "rule" vote to tee up the legislation overnight on Wednesday. The speaker can only afford to lose three Republican votes and still pass the bill. Two have already confirmed their opposition to passing the Senate version of the bill: Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Rep. Ralh Norman, R-S.C. House members will begin the debate process at roughly 9:00 article source: Murkowski got to yes on $3.3T megabill thanks to spending for Alaska

Dems join clergy to pray for 'moral reckoning' to fix Big, Beautiful Bill: ‘I still know how to agitate'

Several Democratic senators, including one who remains the preacher at Martin Luther King Jr.'s church, joined several clergy members for a vigil in opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on the Capitol steps Tuesday. "Clergy and leaders in robes, collars and religious vestments will offer prayers, sing songs, read scripture and testify to the Gospel, providing a moral reckoning at this critical moment in history," read an advisory announcing the vigil obtained by Fox News Digital. Rev. Jim Wallis, who advised the Obama administration on faith and neighborhood partnerships, told the crowd they "come today in spiritual procession – singing, reading Scripture and coming for a vigil on the Senate steps." "Some say that we should keep faith out of politics – we're saying while the Bible doesn't give us detailed legislation, it tells us who to care for," Wallis went on. "We don't want to let Jesus Christ be left outside the Senate chamber for this vote." Warnock Dodges Question From Nbc Host On Whether Biden Should Have Dropped Out Earlier Wallis called Republicans' budget a "big bad bill" that will purportedly "take 60 million [people] off of health care." Read On The Fox News App Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., cited Luke 10, recalling the passage where a lawyer – "and it's always a lawyer causing trouble," he quipped – asks Jesus who qualifies as a neighbor and who one ought to care for. Coons claimed the GOP bill "literally takes the food from the mouths of hungry children to pass an enormous tax cut for the very wealthiest [and] is the definition of an immoral bill before this Congress." Mike Johnson, Donald Trump Get Big Beautiful Win As Budget Passes House Later, Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga. – reverend of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta – said the vigil felt like "déjà vu." Warnock recounted protesting via prayer and singing in the Capitol rotunda in 2017 – alongside former North Carolina NAACP president William Barber II – and said he "drew the short straw" when he, but not Barber, was arrested. "As I stood there, I said then what I want to say today: That a budget is not just a fiscal document, it's a moral document." "Show me your budget and I'll show you who you think matters and who does not – who you think is dispensable. Right. And we stood there in 2017 making the same point," he said, crediting the Capitol Police for arresting them in a professional manner. Warnock recounted that when he was warned of being arrested, he said he had "already been arrested." "My mind and my imagination and my heart had been arrested by the heartbeat of children who should not lose their food and who should not lose healthcare in order to give wealthy people a tax cut," he said, suggesting the same was true with Republicans' latest budget bill. "Here I am eight years later, having transformed my agitation into legislation." "I'm here today because I still know how to agitate – I still know how to protest. I'm not a senator who used to be a pastor. I'm a pastor in the Senate."Original article source: Dems join clergy to pray for 'moral reckoning' to fix Big, Beautiful Bill: 'I still know how to agitate'

Trump confronts South African president with video on treatment of White farmers

President Donald Trump confronted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House on Wednesday with a video allegedly showing grave treatment of White farmers. Trump has claimed that White Afrikaner South African farmers are being slaughtered and forced off their land. The Afrikaners are descendants of mostly Dutch settlers who first arrived in South Africa in 1652. A portion of the footage aired at the White House showed white crosses lined up alongside both sides of a road. "Now this is very bad. These are burial sites right here. Burial sites -- over a thousand -- of White farmers. And those cars are lined up to pay love on a Sunday morning. Each one of those white things you see is a cross. And there is approximately a thousand of them," Trump said. "They're all White farmers. The family of White farmers. And those cars aren't, driving, they are stopped there to pay respects to their family member who was killed. And it's a terrible sight. I've never seen anything like it. On both sides of the road, you have crosses. Those people are all killed." Trump To Meet Leader Of 'Out Of Control' South Africa At White House "Have they told you where that is, Mr. President? I'd like to know where that is. Because this I've never seen," Ramaphosa then asked Trump. Read On The Fox News App "I mean, it's in South Africa, that's where," Trump responded. "We need to find out," Ramaphosa said. Earlier, Trump said "we had a lot of people, I must tell you, Mr. President, we have had a tremendous number of people, especially since they've seen this, generally they're White farmers and they're fleeing South Africa. And it's, you know, it's a very sad thing to see, but, I hope we can have an explanation of that, because I know you don't want that." Some 50 Afrikaners were flown to the U.S. as refugees last week. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said there's "more to come". "I'm not going to be repeating what I've been saying. I would say if there was Afrikaner farmer genocide, I can bet you these three gentlemen would not be here, including my Minister of Agriculture. He would not be with me. So it will take him, President Trump listening to their stories, to their perspectives, that is the answer to your question," Ramaphosa said. At one point in the meeting, Trump was asked by a reporter "What would you like President Ramaphosa to do about the situation that we just seen on the screen?" "I don't know. I don't know," Trump said. "Look, these are articles over the last few days," Trump continued, holding up a stack of paper. "Death of people. Death. Death. Horrible death," Trump said as he started flipping through the sheets. "White South Africans are fleeing because of the violence and racist laws… So when you say, what would I like to do? I don't know what to do," Trump article source: Trump confronts South African president with video on treatment of White farmers

Adam Schiff reveals what a San Francisco cashier bluntly told him about Dems, warns party has 'major problem'

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., offered a dire warning to fellow Democrats recalling an exchange he had with a Target cashier in San Francisco, insisting his party has a "major problem." During a panel discussion on Friday's "Real Time with Bill Maher," Schiff was asked to weigh in on the current state of the Democratic Party and how it governs, particularly in a state like California. "So we're gonna to have to change how we do business in California," Schiff told Bill Maher. "We're gonna to have to address people's legitimate concerns about crime." Nbc Host Questions Adam Schiff On Whether Biden Officials Misled The Public About Former President Schiff then recalled an experience he had two years ago in San Francisco when his luggage was stolen out of his car, admitting it was the one time he did not heed warnings from others about not leaving valuables in vehicles while in the city. "And what was most memorable about the experience for me as I went to this Target in South San Francisco, 10 o'clock at night, and I'm getting the toiletries I'm gonna need for my next two days in the city," Schiff said. "First of all, I had to get the clerk, which is hard to find, to unlock the shampoo or the whatever. So that's one thing." The cashier asked me if I want one of those Target bags with a little bullseye on it. And I said, 'Yes, that Target bag is gonna be my luggage for the next two days," Schiff continued. "And she asked me what happened, and I told her, and she basically said in not so many words, 'Yeah, Democrats are a---h---s.' And I thought, you know, if the cashier in South San Francisco at 10 o'clock at night believes that Democrats are a---h---s because the shampoo was locked up and my stuff got stolen out of the trunk, we've got a major problem that we have to address." "That's an awesome story," Maher reacted. "That says a lot. I hope all the Democrats listen to that story." Schiff expressed hope in San Francisco's new Democratic mayor Daniel Lurie, who he says is "helping lead the way in how we kind of reinvent how Democrats are doing governance." Chuck Todd says the 'mythology' of Joe Biden as a family man is 'all bulls---'

Former NBC "Meet the Press" anchor Chuck Todd delivered a brutal opinion about former President Biden, calling him a "craven political animal" who was more concerned about his political career than his own family. During an appearance Sunday on Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt's "The Warning" podcast, Todd delved into why the Democrats lost the 2024 election and what he perceives as the media's relationship with the second Trump administration. After decrying older politicians remaining in the leadership of the Democratic Party, Todd returned to Biden's role in the November election loss. "You know, Joe Biden never should have been there in the first place, right? Number one, he shouldn't have run for president [in 2020]," Todd remarked. Biden Insider Exposes How White House 'Gaslit' The Public About Former President's Decline "I completely got so angry at Joe Biden, the man, when I read the transcript of the Hunter Biden trial, and when I realized that not one, not two, but three Biden children, and I count Beau's widow, were all dealing with drug problems in 2018. And Joe Biden said, 'Now's a perfect time to run for president, because who cares about our family?'" Read On The Fox News App "I have to tell you something about Joe Biden. There's this mythology about Joe Biden, that the man cared so much, it's all bulls---," he continued. Todd said Biden had "created this myth," over his 40-year career, that he was an "incredible family man." "And instead, what he really was, was a craven political animal that was desperate, that considered a run for president every four years that he was eligible," he added. Fox News Digital reached out to Biden's office for comment but did not immediately hear back. Nbc's Chuck Todd Accuses Gop Of Trying To 'Exploit' Biden Over Not Acknowledging His 7Th Grandchild Todd left NBC News in January after nearly two decades at the network. He has been increasingly outspoken in his criticisms of the former president, saying in December that Biden probably shouldn't have run for office again because he was "emotionally incapable" of leading the country. In December, Todd slammed Biden for pardoning his son Hunter before leaving office. Todd said Biden's blanket pardon of Hunter, covering a decade, along with the president's accusation that the Justice Department "unfairly" targeted his son, were "damaging" to the country. "You have the leading Democrat in America and the leading Republican in America both agreeing on one thing: the Justice Department has been politicized. That is absolutely – that is long-term damaging," Todd said at the time. Nbc's Chuck Todd Says President Biden 'Needs Therapy' Following Son Hunter's Pardon "So now we're in a situation where every party is going to come in, and as they leave, everybody gets their security blanket pardon. 'OK, how long do you want it? You want a 10-year window?'" he said. "Guess what? There's now a precedent for it and that's what's so damaging about this decision," Todd article source: Chuck Todd says the 'mythology' of Joe Biden as a family man is 'all bulls---'
