Man Utd and Everton face competition in surprise race for Leicester hero
The future of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi could become one of the surprise transfer sagas of the summer, with a number of clubs interested in him. The 28-year-old joined the Foxes from Genk in January 2017 for £17m and they have got decent value for money out of the Nigeria international. Ndidi has made 303 appearances for Leicester in all competitions, winning the FA Cup in 2021. The midfielder has been a regular in the team for years but now looks set to leave after Leicester were relegation from the Premier League last season. Due to dropping down to the Championship, his release clause is set at just £9m and the vultures are circling. TalkSPORT report that Manchester United, Everton and Juventus have all shown an interest in what could be a bargain signing. The new addition to the race for Ndidi is Spanish outfit Real Betis, while there is also thought to be interest from the Saudi Pro League. The Nigerian is under contract at the King Power until 2027, signing a new deal just last year. He was attracting interest as a potential free transfer last summer, with Everton one of the clubs tracking him then, but the Foxes persuaded him to sign a new three-year contract. That deal included the bargain release clause of just £9m if Leicester were relegated from the Premier League, which they duly were. Apps: 220 Goals: 7 Assists: 14 Yellow Cards: 42 Red Cards: 2 It is far from clear where Ndidi will move to, although a move away from Leicester certainly looks likely given how cheaply he is available. While Manchester United are reportedly interested, Ndidi will not be a priority signing in a summer that sees the Red Devils trying to strengthen in a number of areas. More Trending Their focus is currently on completing a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, having already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Everton will need to bring in a midfielder this summer after Abdoulaye Doucoure left the club on a free transfer after five years at Goodison Park. The 32-year-old made 166 appearances for the Toffees and remained a key player last season as he turned out 36 times across all competitions. The void he has left will need to be filled and David Moyes may well hope Ndidi can help do that, although the Leicester man does play a touch deeper than Doucoure. Man Utd set for transfer battle with Premier League rival for relegated star
Manchester United are eyeing a new midfielder and a release clause could prove tempting for the Red Devils to pick up a summer bargain as they look to strengthen Ruben Amorim's hand Manchester United are eyeing a shock move for a player relegated from the Premier League. The Red Devils want to land Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi. According to TalkSport, the Nigeria international is said to be available for a cut-price fee after failing to help the Foxes remain in the top-flight. Ndidi, 28, since 2017 when the Midlands club completed a £17million deal for his signature. The Leicester star has a release clause in his contract after agreeing a new contract following the club's Championship win in 2024. It saw him commit to the club until 2027 but with the caveat he could depart for £9m should Leicester fail to cement their status as a Premier League club. United may have competition for his signature with interest from Saudi Arabia and Everton in the 66-cap international. Ndidi has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford albeit with when both clubs were situated in better positions in the league. In 2022 Brendan Rodgers responded to claims the midfielder could cost as much as £50m. "He's worth much more than that," came the reply. Ndidi's modest current fee could see an affordable option as United look to strengthen Ruben Amorim's squad. After missing out on a estimated £100m cash injection by failing to qualify for the Champions League with Europa League success, the club saw no financial boost after finishing 15th. Amorim's side appear to still be looking to spend ambitiously however after Matheus Cunha's £62.5m arrival. And United have launched a bid of more than £60m for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. A move for Ndidi would see a continued effort to bring Premier League experience into the squad. That comes after Amorim suggested the contrast in United's league and European form came from the different demands of the competition in terms of physicality. Amorim suggested that is why Antony has found like difficult at United. "When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there," he said. "If you don't have physicality, you will struggle a lot. Antony is so much better now in Spain. There are many factors, but I guarantee you it's physicality." Ndidi may also offer some opportunity for United to act quickly, despite requiring to offload players. The club will hope to secure permanent exits for Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho.
