Actor bags historic role

Gcilima's Xolani Khowa Xolo recently bagged a role on Season 2 of Shaka Ilembe. Xolo portrays the character of Ndlela kaSompisi, who died in February 1840. Ndlela was a key general to Zulu Kings, Shaka and Dingane. He rose to prominence as a highly effective warrior under Shaka. Dingane appointed him as his chief advisor. He was also the principal commander of Dingane's armies. Xolo said this was his first acting role on screen. He described Ndlela as a person who believed in what he wanted and fought for it. 'He was a hero who was loyal to the Zulu monarch,' he said. The actor explained that he learned a great deal through this character. 'I have always known about the Ndlela surname, but I was not aware of the extent to which Ndlela played a role in unifying the Zulu kingdom. I have learned that our surnames carry a lot of history because of the people who did a lot to represent their lineage well,' he said. Xolo studied Drama and Production Studies at the Durban University of Technology. He said that is where his love for acting started. 'It was in 2015, in my first year in university that my love for acting started. I have been doing theatre for years in Joburg and the PlayHouse in Durban,' he said. Xolo added he was in negotiations with other production companies for other acting roles. Another South Coaster who was on Season 1 of Shaka Ilembe is Mtwalume's Hope Mbhele. Shaka Ilembe airs on Mzansi Magic every Sunday at 20:00. HAVE YOUR SAY Like the South Coast Fever's Facebook page At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Mixed reviews on Angel Ndlela's new home: celebration or underwhelming reality?

'The Real Housewives of Durban' star, Angel Ndlela, is a proud new homeowner who is thoroughly enjoying this exciting chapter in her life. Image: Instagram Season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Durban" has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, with cast members navigating complex friendships, broken boundaries and personal struggles. Amidst the drama and tension, one housewife, Angel Ndlela, is shining a light on a more positive note. Congratulations are in order as the reality star celebrates a major milestone of becoming a homeowner. On Thursday, July 17, Ndlela took to social media to share the exciting news with her fans. She posted a set of pictures of herself standing outside the stunning home, posing with a set of keys in her hands. She captioned the pictures, stating that she waited for God to make the purchase possible. 'After a sacred season of waiting, God made room. The wait was holy. The reward is home. Faith wrote this chapter, independence sealed it. 🏡🗝️✨,' she wrote. Her industry peers took to the comment section to congratulate the 30-year-old business woman. Ndlela's co-star Shorisha Naidoo commented: 'Well done, my love. Super proud of you❤️❤️❤️.' Influencer Lerato Nxumalo also congratulated Ndlela on the milestone, commenting: 'This is huge! Congratulations, you should be so proud of yourself,f beautiful 😍🥳🥂'. However, as a housewife on a reality TV show, Ndlela's new home has attracted scrutiny from viewers who expect a certain level of lavishness. With the show's focus on the wealthy lifestyle of its cast members, some viewers have criticised the reality star's home, saying it does not meet their expectations of what a 'housewife's' home should look like. 'I'm sorry but that house isn't up to "'Real Housewives' standards,' said X user @nok2lah_ Another social media user, @THendrix777, asked: 'Isn't the point of these shows to show us opulence and a disconnect from reality?' While @SihleN88853737 commented: 'Yho! I looked at Sorisha, Jojo, and Nonku's houses and then looked at Angel's house and sighed 🥴' Ndlela joined the cast of the popular reality show in 2024 and became the youngest cast member to join the group. Not only is she an established businesswoman who owns a construction company, but she is also making waves in the music industry with her latest collaboration with Funky QLA on 'Umkhuleko' (prayer). The single also features Amapiano sensations Sino Msolo, Sykes and gospel artist Khaya Mthethwa.

Why AmaZulu FC released 17 players: A calculated reset for the future

AmaZulu FC say their decision to release 17 players was a calculated reset to reverse a worrying decline and back head coach Arthur Zwane's vision to return the club to the top. Speaking at the launch of the 2025 KZN Premier's Cup this week, club spokesperson Philani Ndlela said the mass clear-out was not just a reaction to recent results, but a strategic move shaped by where the team wants to go. 'If you look at the last five seasons, the club finished inside the top eight three times and twice outside. We played one cup final, which we lost, and you can see that in the last five seasons we did not do as well as we expected – in as much as we got an opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League,' said Ndlela. 'But our graph kept going down instead of going up, so it was important for us to have a turnaround.' AmaZulu ended the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign in sixth place, securing a spot in the MTN8. While that finish could be seen as progress, Ndlela insisted it wasn't enough for a club with ambitions of lifting trophies. The arrival of Arthur Zwane last season — initially as co-coach alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi — marked the beginning of that turnaround. Vilakazi has since departed, and Zwane has been trusted to lead a long-term project centred on youth and tactical evolution. 'When we saw coach Arthur Zwane bringing in new and fresh ideas in the team, it was important for us to go back to the drawing board to bring in younger players that are going to help us get back to the top,' Ndlela explained. Alongside Zwane, AmaZulu have bolstered their technical team by roping in Simo Dladla as an assistant coach.

JOHANNESBURG - Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has withdrawn comments he made about party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela, in which he accused him of being addicted to drugs and alcohol. The retraction came shortly after Ndlela filed a R3 million defamation lawsuit against Shivambu at the Johannesburg High Court. MK Party's Ndlela sues Shivambu for defamation of character, demanding R3m

JOHANNESBURG – The spokesperson of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Nhlamulo Ndlela, is suing the party's former secretary general, Floyd Shivambu, for defamation of character, demanding R3 million in damages. This comes after Shivambu accused Ndlela of drug use and alcohol abuse. In papers filed at the Johannesburg High Court, Ndlela claims to have suffered reputational damage from Shivambu's utterances. Shivambu made the accusations during a series of televised interviews, where he opened up about what he described as dodgy dealing within the MK Party. According to court documents, Ndlela said Shivambu was given until this past Tuesday to issue a public apology but failed to do so. Ndlela argued that Shivambu's accusation, suggesting he makes decisions while under the influence, led to widespread mockery on social media, damaging his reputation. He further claimed the remarks have affected his mental health, saying he's suffered anxiety, stress and humiliation. Ndlela noted that the reputational damage has resulted in financial losses totalling R3 million.
