Sometimes we just need a break. Whether it's an hour with no cell phone or a quick nap on the couch, everyone needs to recharge once in a while. Apparently, elephants need breaks too!
In a video shared by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, we get a glimpse of just how similar elephants are to humans. As the clip starts, we meet Lemeki, a teenage elephant who is lying in a massive pile of red dirt. It is clear from her demeanor that she just wants a snooze. However, her herd mate, Ndotto, wanted her to get up and play!
Human parents can relate to this need for just a few minutes of peace and quiet—or in this case a roll in the dirt! Lemeki tries so hard to let Ndotto know she is not interested in tossing dirt, but he just does not seem to pick up on the clues she's giving! Lemeki uses one of her hind legs to gently kick in his direction, but he doesn't budge. He continues to encroach on her personal space like a brother who sits really close to you but then says, 'I'm not touching you!'
According to the keepers, Lemeki's relaxation time is important to her. She continues to let Ndotto know that she just needs a few minutes of alone time. He is persistent and continues to throw dirt, just trying to entice continues to kick in his direction and even gives a little sighing sound. Although she never makes contact with him, he eventually got the hint and moved on to another sibling.
Comments from fans did not disappoint, and here are a few highlights:
'HAHAHA! The drama here is so much better than the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills!'
'I do the same thing when I'm laying down resting and my husband bothers me, LOL!'
'Dust bathing looks like such a Zen spa activity!'
After watching Lemeki's attempt at napping, you can swipe left to see a video of Ndotto tossing dirt with another herd sibling, Losioto. She obviously shares his love of creating dust clouds, and becomes the playmate that Ndotto wanted all along!
