In a tribute to Nelson Mandela's legacy, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund hosted the celebration on Saturday at Gold Reef City, marking the Fund's 30th anniversary. Madiba's vision of a world where children are valued, protected, and free to flourish came to life when over 200 children from different communities were treated to a full day of play, entertainment, and learning. Part of the festivities were theme park rides, magic shows, storytelling corners, dance performances, and educational games. Gold Reef City provided a safe, inclusive space for children to experience joy and connection, true to the spirit of the Fund's founding principles. Video Player is loading. Former South African President Nelson Mandela laughing while celebrating his birthday with children at the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in Johannesburg. STUDYING on an empty stomach is hard but this year matriculants preparing for their crucial exams won't go hungry. Instead they'll receive buckets of love this Mandela Day when volunteers will gather to prepare buckets filled with food which will be given to resource-scarce pupils. SA Harvest, a leading food rescue organisation in South Africa, is spearheading the campaign and says that hundreds of care buckets will be packed. 'Our campaign is not just about charity; it's about justice,' says Ozzy Nel, COO of SA Harvest. 'Food rescue is not a handout; it's a powerful tool for systemic change. We aim to meet young people where they are and give them a real chance at success.'
