Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona and Kyle Marvin Star in Trailer for Michael Angelo Covino's ‘Splitsville'
Marriages crumble, crash and intertwine in the official trailer for Splitsville. Following a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month, Neon and Topic Studios released the trailer for director Michael Angelo Covino's and co-writer Kyle Marvin's second feature Monday. The open-marriage comedy stars Dakota Johnson, Adria Arjona, Corvino and Marvin, with Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle and Charlie Gillespie rounding out the cast. More from The Hollywood Reporter Nanni Moretti Teaming With Louis Garrel, Jasmine Trinca on New Film Celine Song on How 'Materialists' Subverts the Rom-Com With a "Really Frank Conversation" How Celine Song's 'Materialists' Approaches New York City Wealth The trailer unveils a series of nail-biting, raunchy and hilarious moments. The film's synopsis is as follows: 'After Ashley (Arjona) asks for a divorce, good-natured Carey (Marvin) runs to his friends, Julie (Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support. He's shocked to discover that the secret to their happiness is an open marriage, that is until Carey crosses the line and throws all of their relationships into chaos.' Splitsville serves as a reunion for Corvino and Marvin, whose first feature, The Climb, premiered at Cannes in 2019. While both films highlight the aftermath of getting involved with the other's significant other, Splitsville shows the writing duo expanding into broader material. 'After we made The Climb, Kyle and I started working on a couple of different stories and scripts that were a bit bigger — different themes, different kinds of worlds,' Covino told THR ahead of the film's Cannes premiere. 'This project really came out of a desire to get back to something we could make in a more contained way. Something we didn't have to ask for a ton of permission to do.' Splitsville is slated to hit theaters Aug. 22. Neon Nabs Park Chan-wook's ‘No Other Choice' Comedy Thriller
Neon has reteamed with Korean director Park Chan-wook and Parasite studio CJ ENM by taking the North American rights to the violent comedy thriller No Other Choice. Korean film royalty Lee Byung-hun and Son Yejin star in the thriller about Man-soo (Lee), who is abruptly laid off by the paper company where he worked tirelessly for many years. Man-soo grows increasingly desperate in his hunt for new work, and eventually resolves to kill his job competitors. Chan-wook's 12th movie is an adaptation of American novelist Donald Westlake's 1996 novel The Ax. Westlake's novel was previously adapted into French by Costa Gavras as the 2005 film Le Couperet (The Ax). The ensemble cast for Chan-wook's Korean adaptation includes Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and Yoo Yeon-seok. The latest film by Chan-wook (Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden) is financed by Korean studio giant CJ ENM, which teamed with Neon on the Oscar-winning Parasite drama. Neon and Chan-wook also earlier collaborated on the re-release of Oldboy in theaters in 2023 to mark the film's 20th anniversary. No Other Choice is in post-production, and an awards season push for the Korean film is expected from Neon after its success with Parasite. The producer credits on No Other Choice are shared by Chan-wook, Back Jisun, Michèle Ray Gavras and Alexandre Gavras, with Miky Lee executive producing. The North American distribution deal was negotiated by Jason Wald for Neon and Namyoung Kim at CJ ENM. Mubi Takes Park Chan-Wook's ‘No Other Choice' For Multiple Territories, Including U.K., Australia
Mubi has acquired rights to Park Chan-wook's No Other Choice for a good chunk of the world, including Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Benelux, Spain, Turkey, India, Australia/New Zealand, and South East Asia. Cinéart will handle the theatrical release in Benelux in partnership with Mubi. The acquisition follows Neon's announcement yesterday that it had secured North American rights to the film. Mubi and Neon have been sympatico on several arthouse titles this year. In Cannes, Mubi nabbed multiple international rights on Jafar Panahi's Palme d'Or winner It Was Just an Accident, Kleber Mendonça Filho's The Secret Agent, and Oliver Laxe's Sirat, all of which Neon has for domestic release. Neon Sets Palme d'Or Winner ‘It Was Just an Accident' for October Release
This is no accident … you'll soon be able to see 2025 Palme d'Or winner 'It Was Just an Accident' in theaters on Oct. 15. Neon picked up Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi's latest movie — 'یک تصادف ساده,' — out of the Cannes Film Festival last month, marking their sixth consecutive acquisition of the French event's top film. 'Inspired by Panahi's second Iranian incarceration, 'It Was Just an Accident' follows what begins as a minor accident as it sets in motion a series of escalating consequences,' according to Neon's Wednesday press release. Panahi spent almost 20 years in prison or under house arrest in Iran for making films that the country deemed to be anti-government propaganda. After winning the Caméra d'Or in 1995 for 'The White Balloon,' the director was able to attend Cannes this year despite a 20-year ban on making movies in 2010 and an additional prison sentence in 2022. In his positive review of the film, Steve Pond wrote that 'the bracing thing about 'It Was Just an Accident' is that it has married Panahi's wit and humanism with real anger; if many of his previous films lulled you into realizing his points about oppression and injustice, this one is downright confrontational, from the moment its action begins with a man driving away from a city in the dead of night and accidentally hitting and killing a dog.' Writer/director Panahi produced the film alongside Philippe Martin, with Sandrine Dumas and Christel Henon as co-producers and David Thion and Lilina Eche as associate producers. The film was a Les Films Pelléas and Jafar Panahi production from Iran/France and Luxembourg, with mk2 Films representing international rights. Neon previously worked with Panahi on 'The Year of the Everlasting Storm,' which played as a Cannes Special Screening in 2021. The independent film production and distribution company famously also brought recent Palme d'Or winners 'Anora,' 'Anatomy of a Fall,' 'Triangle of Sadness,' 'Titane' and 'Parasite' to American audiences. 'It Was Just an Accident' arrives in theaters on Oct. 15. The post Neon Sets Palme d'Or Winner 'It Was Just an Accident' for October Release appeared first on TheWrap.
