New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Nepalese nationals thanked the Indian government on Wednesday for evacuating them from conflict-hit Iran under Operation Sindhu. A special flight carrying 296 Indian nationals and four Nepalese nationals stranded in conflict-hit Iran landed safely in New Delhi on Wednesday, taking the total number of people evacuated under Operation Sindhu to 3,154. Nepalese national, Gayatri Thapa, expressed her gratitude toward the Indian government, saying that they 'made a lot of arrangements for us and helped us a lot.' Speaking to ANI, she said, 'I have been in Iran for the last 10 years. The situation in Iran was very bad. It feels good to be back here. The Indian Government made a lot of arrangements for us and helped us a lot.' Another Nepalese national, Utsav Thapa, who has been studying in Kendra Vidyalaya Sangathan also thanked India for the evacuation. 'I have been in Iran for the last 9 years. I study at the Indian Embassy's Kendra Vidyalaya Sangathan school, and I am happy that I am going back to my country. Thank you, India. The Indian Embassy made arrangements for us,' he said. Another Nepalese national, Sagal, said, 'I have been in Iran for the last 8 years. We got a call from the Indian Embassy after the situation deteriorated. It feels great to be back. I want to thank the Indian Government and the Indian Embassy.' Additionally, Syed Zeeshan Haider, an Indian national from Kanpur who was in Iran for studies, said that people in Tehran were very scared due to continuous attacks from Israel. 'I am from Kanpur, and I went to Iran to study. Due to the deteriorating conditions there, the Indian government evacuated us from there. Another Indian national from Gazipur said that the Indian Embassy helped them a lot. 'I am from Gazipur and I went to Iran for studies... Our Embassy helped us a lot in the entire evacuation process. Operation Sindhu was launched amidst the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, which had gripped the region for the past couple of weeks before a ceasefire was agreed on Tuesday. The Indian government has evacuated 3,154 people under Operation Sindhu so far. Earlier in the day, the Indian Embassy in Iran announced that it will be gradually winding down its evacuation exercise for Indian nationals, initiated after the escalated conflict in the region following Israel's military operations on the Islamic Republic, as a ceasefire deal was made between the two countries on Tuesday. In a post on X, the Embassy detailed the closure of the contact desk set up for registering new names of Indian nationals for evacuation, while assuring continued monitoring of the security situation. 'Announcement from Embassy of India, Tehran: Since there has been an announcement of ceasefire, the Embassy is gradually winding up the evacuation exercise initiated during the military conflict in Iran. Hence the Embassy has closed the contact desk that was opened to register new names for evacuation. At the same time, Govt. of India is keeping a careful eye on the evolving situation & will reassess its strategy in case there is again a threat to the security of Indian nationals in Iran,' the Embassy stated. This came after US President Trump, on early Tuesday, announced a ceasefire agreement between the two conflict-gripped nations following Iran's attack on US military bases in Qatar and Iraq in response to the US strikes on its nuclear facilities. Job fraud racket: More Nepal families reach out to embassy, NGO

Dehradun: Following the rescue of 57 Nepalese youths, including 12 minors, who were held captive in two towns in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand in a large-scale job fraud racket last week, as reported by TOI, more families from Nepal have now come forward as victims of the scam. They are seeking help to locate their missing family members believed to be trapped under similar conditions. The development comes after the Nepalese embassy in India issued an advisory to its citizens against falling for attractive job offers from India, citing the job fraud racket in Uttarakhand. Officials familiar with the details of the rescue operation suspect that over 1,000 Nepalese youths are allegedly held captive in similar conditions in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in an "industry-scale" job fraud being run by organised crime gangs. Naveen Joshi of KIN India, the NGO that assisted in last week's rescue effort, said: "We have so far received over 20 calls and emails from different parts of Nepal. Apart from this, we have also been contacted by those who were able to escape earlier, to share their ordeal. Many of them were held captive for more than a year in Uttarakhand before they could escape. We are speaking to them to gather more information about the modus operandi of the criminal gangs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo " T he issue gained significant traction in Nepal, where it was raised in the national assembly by lawmakers demanding action against those responsible for the crime. Uttarakhand police, which assisted the Nepalese authorities and KIN India, has registered a case under various sections including organised crime, wrongful confinement and kidnapping, and arrested three accused, including a Nepalese citizen. Reacting to the issue, Uttarakhand home secretary Shailesh Bagauli said, "The state govt is offering all its cooperation to Nepal to rescue its citizens. We are also taking required actions to ensure such crimes are not committed in the state in future."

Nepal envoy says advisory issued after Nepalese youths rescued from captivity

DEHRADUN: Close to 60 men from Nepal have in recent days been rescued from months-long captivity by teams comprising officials in India, staff from the Nepal embassy and NGO workers after the youth - many of them minors - were trafficked into UP, Uttarakhand and Bihar by shady job networks. Those in the know say there could be "at least a thousand others". Nepal's ambassador to India, Shankar P Sharma, told TOI on Thursday: "Kathmandu has issued an advisory to citizens to be cautious before taking job offers in India. We have received full cooperation from Indian agencies in the rescue of our citizens." His remarks came amid widening investigations in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where similar rackets are suspected to be operating with impunity. Echoing the state's stance, Uttarakhand home secretary Shailesh Bagauli told TOI, "Uttarakhand govt has always offered full cooperation to neighbouring countries like Nepal in such cases, and will continue to do so. We will take all necessary actions to ensure that such crimes are not committed in our state in future." The chain of events had begun when one young man escaped captivity in Kashipur and alerted police in Nepal.

Evacuated over 3,400 Indian nationals from Iran in 14 flights so far: MEA

India has evacuated over 3,400 Indian nationals from Iran so far in 14 flights under Operation Sindhu launched on June 18 to bring home its citizens amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, according to data shared by the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday. At his weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in response to queries on Operation Sindhu, also said, New Delhi was "assessing the situation on ground" and depending on that a decision would be taken whether to "continue with it or not". On June 24, while India remained "deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability" she welcomed reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Hours after US President Donald Trump's claims of an Iran-Israel ceasefire, the MEA in a statement said "India stands ready to play its part" to resolve the situation and insisted on "dialogue and diplomacy" as the way forward. Jaiswal was asked if India would continue Operation Sindhu after the Iran-Israel ceasefire, and about the total number of India nationals evacuated from the two countries so far. "We launched Operation Sindhu on June 18. We have around 10,000 people.. Indian community members in Iran. And, around 40,000 people in Israel who are Indian nationals," he said. He went on to tell reporters, "From Iran, we have so far evacuated 3,426 Indian nationals, 11 OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) cardholders, nine Nepalese nationals, and some Sri Lankan nationals as well." One Iranian woman, who is the wife of an Indian national has also been evacuated, he added. The MEA spokesperson added, "In all, we mounted, 14 flights to bring back Indian nationals from Iran. These flights flew from Mashhad, as also from Yeravan in Armenia, and Ashgabat in Turkmenistan. I understand that one more flight is on its way from Armenia, and it will land later this evening. With that we would have completed.. all those people who wish to be evacuated from Iran." A special flight carrying 272 Indian and three Nepalese nationals from Iran arrived in Delhi a little past midnight (June 26) from the Iranian city of Mashhad, Jaiswal posted on X earlier in the day. India on Wednesday evacuated 296 Indian citizens and four Nepalese nationals from Iran. "As far as Israel is concerned, we have so far evacuated 818 Indian nationals in four flights. As you are aware the airspace in Israel was closed, so we had to take our people to bordering countries, i.e., Jordan and Egypt, and from both these countries they were put on special flight, and they came back home," he said. The MEA spokesperson said, "We are thankful to the government of Egypt and Jordan for their support." Indian embassies in Israel, Jordan and Egypt "collaborated very closely" with the MEA headquarters in Delhi, in mounting the evacuation operation. "But, we would also like to thank government of Iran, as you would know that we made our requests, they opened their airspace for us to evacuate, our nationals. We are grateful to the government of Iran for this special gesture. We are also thankful to the governments of Turkmenistan and Armenia for helping us evacuate our people," he said. India on Tuesday evacuated more than 1,100 citizens from Iran and Israel. It brought back 594 Indians from Israel, using C-17 heavy-lift aircraft of the Indian Air Force to fly out more than 400 people after they were moved out of Israel to Jordan and Egypt by land transit points. Also, 161 Indians were brought back in a chartered flight from Amman after they had moved to the Jordanian capital from Israel by road. A total of 573 Indians, three Sri Lankan and two Nepalese nationals were evacuated from Iran in two chartered flights on Tuesday, according to details shared by the MEA. Several other flights have brought Indian nationals back home after being evacuated from Iran in the past several days. The tensions escalated significantly following the US bombing of three major Iranian nuclear sites on the morning of June 22. India has evacuated its nationals on chartered flights operated from the Iranian city of Mashhad, the Armenian capital of Yerevan and the Turkmenistan capital of Ashgabat since June 18. Iran lifted airspace restrictions on June 20 to facilitate three chartered flights from Mashhad. The first flight landed in New Delhi late on June 20 with 290 Indians, and the second one landed in the national capital on June 21 afternoon with 310 Indians. Another flight arrived from the Armenian capital city of Yerevan on June 19 and special evacuation flight from Ashgabat landed in New Delhi early on June 21.
