Virgin Media's Sky Sports bundles cut by £330 ahead of Premier League season

Virgin has slashed more than £300 off select TV, broadband and Sky Sports bundles to their 'lowest ever price' in its Summer of Sports sale, offering plenty of Premier League, EFL and Formula 1 action for less Virgin Media has slashed the price of several TV bundles offering Sky Sports access ahead of the new Premier League season. The provider has launched a new Summer of Sports sale, with discounts of up to £336 available until September 2. It comes in time for the return of the Premier League, with the 2025/26 season due to kick off on August 15. The most affordable option is Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, which has been cut from £65.99 to £54.99 per month – a saving of £264. This comes with more than 200 TV channels, including eight Sky Sports channels, such as Main Event, Football and F1. It also provides 516Mbps fibre broadband for smooth, lag-free streaming and gaming. There's also the Biggest Combo bundle, which includes the same Sky Sports channels and 516Mbps broadband, but also packs in Sky Cinema and a free subscription to Netflix Standard with ads. All of this comes in at £64.99, down from £78.99 – a huge £336 saving. Virgin says these prices are the 'lowest ever' offered for its sports packages. But there's also a £120 price cut on Virgin's all-singing and dancing Mega Volt bundle, which provides more than 230 TV channels with Sky Sports HD, Sky Cinema HD and Netflix Standard with ads, plus a whopping 1,130Mbps broadband. This packed bundle comes with an O2 SIM card with unlimited data, minutes and texts, with a total monthly cost of £79.99, down from £84.99. Virgin also offers a discount TNT Sports package available as a paid add-on for £18, rather than the £30.99 rate when joining directly. All of Virgin's TV and broadband plans now run for 24 months, matching those offered by rivals like Sky. But one thing to remember is that Virgin plans to increase its prices every April, with the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports set to rise to £58.49 from April 2026 and £61.99 from April 2027. The Summer of Sport sale puts Virgin head-to-head with Sky's own discounted sports package, the £35 Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. While this option doesn't include broadband, it does provide nine dedicated sports channels, 100 regular channels including Sky Atlantic, and free subscriptions to Netflix Standard with ads and Discovery+. However, boxing fans should note that many of the biggest fights are only available to stream via one-off pay-per-view payments. For example, the Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois fight on July 19 is available to order from DAZN for £24.99 or is currently thrown in for free with a DAZN Annual plan. But those opting for Virgin for their sports needs will still be able to enjoy a minimum of 215 Premier League matches every season from 2025/26, as Sky increases its coverage from 128 Premier League matches to at least 215. Sharing their experience with Virgin on Trustpilot, one happy customer said: '10 out of 10 for Virgin Media. We have been with Virgin for a year now and are very pleased with the service, it's been fantastic to have all the sports channels as we love football. I was able to get a great deal.' This less-impressed reviewer said: 'Sometimes my Virgin box freezes, turns off and resets, and it takes around seven minutes to reboot. This is annoying when watching football.' Another person said: 'I'm extremely happy with the product and service. The broadband speed is second to none and extremely reliable. The TV package is also superb – Ok, it doesn't have Sky Atlantic but with Netflix, Sky Cinema and all the Sports channels included, there's enough to watch."

'I'm a TV writer and found a way to get Netflix and Sky TV for 50p per day'

Stranger Things season five is slowly but surely edging closer and TV writer Jake Hackney has found a way to secure a Netflix and Sky TV subscription for 50p per day ahead of its launch. It's been a big week for Netflix as the streamer finally dropped the first trailer for Stranger Things season five. On Wednesday, exactly nine years and one day after the sci-fi series first aired, Netflix gave fans their first-look at its final chapter. The footage shows Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the gang returning for 'one last adventure', each united by a single goal: to find and kill Vecna. Season five is set to premiere in three parts, with volume one (episodes one to four) on November 27, followed by volume two (episodes five to seven) on Boxing Day, and the finale on New Year's Day. It feels like an age since season four, so I'm sure I'm not the only one who's felt their interest waning in the interim. However, after seeing the new trailer this week I'm happy to say Netflix has well and truly pulled me back in. It's fair to say the hype around the new season is building, and it's sure to keep going throughout the rest of the year. With that, many fans are likely scrambling for different ways to find a cheap Netflix subscription. Earlier this year, the streamer raised its subscription fees yet again, with its entry-level Standard with Ads tier now costing £5.99 per month. However, as a TV and tech writer, it's my job to find ways to watch all the latest series while keeping costs down, and I know how to get Netflix and Sky TV for 50p per day. The deal comes directly from Sky, which includes a free Netflix subscription with TV packages like the Essential TV bundle. For £15 per month, this provides free Netflix access, more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic and a Discovery+ subscription. When breaking it down, this works out at 50p per day over a 30-day period. The bundle comes on a 24-month term, meaning those signing up can secure a Netflix subscription for two years. It typically comes with Netflix Standard with Adverts, which usually costs £5.99 when joining direct, meaning members essentially pay £9.01 for 100 TV channels and Discovery+. There is the option to upgrade to Netflix Standard or Premium for those who prefer ad-free viewing, priced at an extra £6 or £11 respectively. Sky also lets those with an existing subscription keep the same account, so they don't pay twice. Sky isn't the only provider to tempt customers with free Netflix access, as Virgin Media also includes a free subscription with its own TV packages. However, although they include much more, they also come with a higher price tag. The cheapest package that comes with Netflix is the £64.99 Biggest Combo bundle; usually priced at £78.99, this also comes with more than 200 TV channels, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and 516Mbps fibre broadband. However, one downside to both Sky and Virgin's plans is that they both increase their prices every April in an inflation-linked rise. This means the price paid is likely to go up twice in the next 24 months. Sky is yet to confirm how much its prices will go up in April 2026, but this year it introduced a 6.2% rise, so we may see something similar next year. Virgin has already set out its planned changes, with the £64.99 plan rising to £68.49 from April 2026. Despite this, both Sky and Virgin customers can enjoy every season of Stranger Things, as well as Squid Game, Bridgerton and much, much more.

How to get Netflix free for two years ahead of Stranger Things season 5 release

We have found a way to watch every Stranger Things episode and more for free. Stranger Things fans will currently be feeling a mixture of excitement and sorrow as the trailer for the final season of the spine tinglingly Netflix show has been released. With the last ever episodes of one of the streaming service's most watched series hitting our screens later this year, many of us will want to go back to start to fully prepare. As the countdown begins to the explosive finale, we have found a way that fans of the series will be able to watch all five seasons without having to fork out on a Netflix subscription. This means viewers can curl up on the couch and travel to 1980s Hawkins without having to worry about an extra monthly fee. Sky is currently offering its customers free access to Netflix when they purchase one of their TV package deals. The cheapest deal - Essential TV bundle - starts at £15 per month and gives shoppers access to 100 channels, plus Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Discovery+ in one simple subscription. With this deal, shoppers will have free access to popular shows such as Bridgerton, Stranger Things and Squid Games without having to pay extra on top of their deal. The Netflix Standard with Ads package is included in this 24 month deal, which would normally cost customers £5.99 a month through the streaming service. For added ease, Sky is also letting those who already have an existing subscription with Netflix to keep the same account, meaning they won't end up paying twice the amount, reports the Mirror. Additionally, shoppers have the option of upgrading the Netflix package, but this does come with an added cost. To bump up to Netflix Standard, customers will need to add £6 on to their monthly bill, meanwhile Premium viewers will need to pay £11. However, it should be noted that Sky usually increases its subscription prices every April, so shoppers should expect to pay more for their TV package this time next year. This year, Sky increased the prices by 6.2 per cent, which will most likely be a similar case in April 2026. Alternatively, Virgin Media is also throwing in a free Netflix subscription with some of its TV packages, however they are a bit more on the pricier side than Sky's deals. The lowest priced deal is on the Biggest Combo bundle, which is currently down from £78.99 a month to £64.99. This deal includes more than 200 TV channels, Sky Cinema, Sky Sports and 516Mbps broadband. As Stranger Things has had viewers on tenterhooks for almost a decade, Netflix is spacing out its highly anticipated final season to keep viewers on the edge of their seats one last time. Episodes one to four of season five will premiere on November 27, with volume two (episodes five to seven) coming out on Boxing Day. Loyal fans will then start 2026 with the grande finale, which is set to release on New Year's Day. Despite being more than three years on from the release of season four, Stranger Things still has a huge cult following as it is the third most-watched Netflix series of all time. The premise of the final season, which is set in autumn 1987, comes with a simple goal - to find and kill Vecna. However, the synopsis reads: "But he has vanished – his whereabouts and plans unknown." It continues: "Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. "As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming – and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they'll need everyone standing together, one last time." After the release of the trailer, many fans took to social media to express their excitement. One person wrote on X: "Oh my god, it looks so good. I can't wait." While another fan said: "Can't believe it's coming to end. Ready but not ready." However, some fans were a bit miffed about the extremely long wait between seasons, as one person wrote: "I'm going to watch this, but I'll never again watch a series that takes so long between seasons. It's ridiculous." On the flip side, a fourth fan took a more positive view: "I was wrong Stranger Things looks like it was worth the three year wait. I apologise." Among the returning cast is Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery and Maya Hawke. Joining them is Terminator star Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay. To get Netflix for free for two years through Sky, click HERE. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
