An 18-year-old woman has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after her hair reportedly became caught in a funfair ride in Hampshire at the weekend. Emergency services were called to Netley Marsh Steam and Craft show shortly before 11pm on Saturday after the teenager's hair was said to have been trapped in the rollers of a swinging floor. Emma Perry, a nurse from Southampton General Hospital, told the Southern Daily Echo: 'Her friend came off the ride and said she was bleeding, so I offered my services as a first aider. 'When I got up there, I saw that three-quarters of the girl's scalp had been ripped off in what we call a degloving incident.' One woman told the BBC that she had helped provide first aid to the teenager, and that there had been 'shock and panic' at the scene. "One of the girl's friends came down and said how serious it was and some of us offered assistance,' she said. "It's very shocking it could happen on a fairground ride that young children go on. This must never happen again.' In a post on Facebook, the show's organisers said: 'The unfortunate incident that happened at the show last evening is being investigated by the relevant authorities. 'Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show Ltd are cooperating with all parties involved. No further comment will be made until such time as appropriate and more information is available. 'Any comments made at present on social media are NOT the views of the show organisers and we will continue to support all parties involved. A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: 'We were called at 10.53pm on 26 July with reports that an 18-year-old woman had sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her head while on a ride at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show. 'She was taken to hospital for treatment. 'Police attended and have liaised with the Health and Safety Executive.'

Netley Marsh Steam Fair 'co-operating' after teen injured on ride
Organisers of a steam fair where young woman sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her head say they are working with authorities to establish what 18-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident on a ride at the Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show at about 22:50 BST on Marsh Steam and Craft Show said it was "co-operating with all parties involved" following the "unfortunate incident"."No further comment will be made until such time as appropriate and more information is available," it said in a statement on Sunday. It said any other comments made on social media did not reflect organisers' views and that it "will continue to support all parties involved".Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers were liaising with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) at the weekend.A woman, who told the BBC she helped administer first aid to the teenager, said there had been "shock and panic" at the woman, who did not wish to be identified, said she had not initially realised the severity of what had happened."One of the girl's friends came down and said how serious it was and some of us offered assistance."It's very shocking it could happen on a fairground ride that young children go on. Funfair owner insists ride was tested just hours before teen suffered life-changing injuries after ‘getting hair caught'
A FUNFAIR owner has insisted his ride was tested just hours before a teen was left with potentially life-changing injuries in a "freak accident." The horror at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show near Southampton, saw the teen's hair caught in a ride. Charles Cole, owner of the funfair, has now spoken out to say he sympathises with the 18-year-old. He called the horror a "freak accident" and went on to insist his ride is 20 years old but it "had been tested that day." The incident on Saturday prompted a large emergency response with the Health and Safety Executive becoming involved. An 18-year-old girl was left with serious head injuries when her hair was caught in a ride at the funfair, she was raced to hospital and treated by medics. The girl was taken away on a stretcher and fire crews reportedly had to cut away a section of the ride. Mr Cole said that the walk-on ride had been subject to daily checks. Speaking to the Daily Echo he added: "Approximately 50 people had been on the ride before the 18-year-old, and there were no issues. 'The ride is 20 years old but it had been tested that day. This was a freak accident. 'Somehow, the girl's hair got caught and she could not grab on to the handrails. "Nobody wants to hurt anyone, and we are a family business. Last night was very upsetting, especially for the man who owns the ride. 'Safety is our priority, and we sympathise with the girl and her parents. 'It is under investigation and the ride is closed.' The ride has now been closed for the duration of the event as the Health and Safety Executive probe the "freak accident." A full inspection of the site was carried out on Monday.
