Smotrich dances same day slain 'Israeli' soldiers buried sparking outrage

A storm of criticism erupted in 'Israel' following reports that senior government officials attended festive events on the same evening four 'Israeli' soldiers killed in the Beit Hanoun incident were buried. According to Ynet, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was filmed dancing on stage with Hasidic singer Avraham Fried at a concert in Jerusalem's Sultan's Pool on Tuesday night. The show took place just hours after the funerals for four of the fallen soldiers, all from the Netzach Yehuda battalions. Though Fried dedicated several songs to the memory of the deceased, Smotrich's public dancing sparked outrage. His office later said the performance had been scheduled in advance and that the minister attended with his two children. Smotrich wasn't the only official attending celebrations that night. Senior Likud ministers Yariv Levin, Nir Barkat, Idit Silman, and Mai Golan were present at the bar mitzvah of Freddy Malik's son. Malik is a former deputy mayor of Nesher and a key member of the Likud Central Committee. A number of Likud MKs also joined the event, alongside Minister Ze'ev Elkin from Gideon Sa'ar's party. The timing of these appearances drew condemnation online and from opposition figures, who accused the ministers of insensitivity during a time of national mourning.

Israeli soldier vows to 'avenge, burn, rape' after five soldiers were killed in Gaza

Soldiers from Israel's Netzach Yehuda Battalion have reportedly posted graphic calls for revenge on social media following the killing of five members in Gaza on Monday by Palestinian resistance. In one Instagram story, a wounded soldier shared images of two artillery shells inscribed with the names of his fallen comrades. The caption read: 'WE WILL AVENGE, WE WILL BURN, WE WILL RAPE.' Another post showed blood stains—said to be from the dead soldiers—smeared on trousers and inside a vehicle. 'Your blood has not been spilled for nothing. WE WILL AVENGE!!!' the caption said. In a separate post, another soldier wrote: 'Let me with one blow get revenge on Palestine – may their name be erased – for my two eyes.' One clip showed battalion troops singing and dancing to a controversial revenge anthem titled Remember Me, often associated with far-right Israeli groups. Photos circulating online also show graffiti, reportedly in Gaza, reading: 'We've come to take revenge!!! For the memory of Meir, Moshe, Noam, Binyamin. We shall rise, fight and win,' in reference to the five soliders killed. Another image shows shells marked with the names of the five killed soldiers and the word 'REVENGE!' along with a hand gesture emoji meaning 'you just wait...'. The Netzach Yehuda unit, already under international scrutiny for its conduct, has been accused of several abuses during Israel's assault on Gaza. Middle East Eye could not independently verify the posts, however the account reporting the claims is known to regularly document Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

Five Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza combat

Five Israeli soldiers were killed in combat in the Gaza Strip, the military said Tuesday, in one of the deadliest days for Israeli forces in the Palestinian territory this year. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lamented a "difficult morning" as he visited Washington for talks with US President Donald Trump, who is pressing for a ceasefire in the more than 21-month war. "All of Israel bows its head and mourns the fall of our heroic soldiers, who risked their lives in the battle to defeat Hamas and free all our hostages," Netanyahu posted on X. The Israeli military said the five soldiers, aged between 20 and 28, "fell during combat in the northern Gaza Strip". Two others were severely wounded and "evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment", it said, adding their families had been notified. "The investigation indicates that the force was hit by three (improvised explosive devices) that were activated within a matter of minutes," military spokesman Effie Defrin said. A force that was deployed to rescue the troops, "encountered fire that opened towards it, wounding some of the fighters", Defrin added. He said Israeli troops were now "surrounding the Beit Hanoun area from all directions, above and below ground," and that dozens of militants were located there. Abu Obeida, the spokesman for Hamas's armed wing, said "the complex Beit Hanun operation is yet another blow delivered by our valiant fighters". "The war of attrition our fighters are waging against the enemy -- from the north of the Strip to its south -- will inflict additional losses on it every day," the spokesman of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement. - Tributes - One of the soldiers who was killed, Noam Musgadian, 20, was buried in Jerusalem's Mount Herzl cemetery on Tuesday, his coffin carried by soldiers while family members mourned. "A huge thank you for almost 20 perfect years," his brother, Roi, said. "I don't know how they manage to fit such a big heart into such a small coffin." In a post on X, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said "the unbearable news of the fall of five heroic sons in Gaza -- most of them fighters of the ultra-Orthodox 'Netzach Yehuda' battalion -- pierces the heart". Opposition leader Yair Lapid called for an end to the war "for the sake of the fighters, for the sake of their families, for the sake of the hostages, for the sake of the State of Israel". According to the Israeli military, 450 soldiers have been killed in the Gaza campaign since the start of the ground offensive on October 27, 2023. Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed at least 57,575 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry. The United Nations considers the figures reliable. bur-acc/lba/phz/kir

Five Israeli soldiers killed in Gaza combat

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: Five Israeli soldiers were killed in combat in the Gaza Strip, the military said Tuesday, in one of the deadliest days for Israeli forces in the Palestinian territory this year. The five soldiers aged between 20 and 28 'fell during combat in the northern Gaza Strip', the Israeli military said. Two others were severely wounded and 'evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment', it said, adding their families had been notified. Israeli military correspondents reported the deaths occurred when improvised explosive devices detonated in the area of Beit Hanun in the north of the territory. During attempts to evacuate the wounded, soldiers reportedly came under fire. 'The unbearable news of the fall of five heroic sons in Gaza – most of them fighters of the ultra-Orthodox 'Netzach Yehuda' battalion – pierces the heart,' President Isaac Herzog posted on X. 'For the sake of the fighters, for the sake of their families, for the sake of the hostages, for the sake of the State of Israel: this war must be ended,' opposition leader Yair Lapid wrote. 'No breakthrough' The latest round of negotiations on the war in Gaza began on Sunday in Doha, with representatives of Israel and Palestinian group Hamas seated in different rooms in the same building. Monday's session ended with 'no breakthrough', a Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations told AFP. The Hamas and Israeli delegations were due to resume talks, with US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff also set to join them this week in an effort to secure a ceasefire. Israel says missile launched by Yemen's Houthis 'most likely' intercepted The US proposal included a 60-day truce, during which Hamas would release 10 living hostages, taken during its October 2023 attack on Israel, and several bodies in exchange for Palestinians detained by Israel, Palestinian sources have said. Hamas was also demanding certain conditions for Israel's withdrawal, guarantees against a resumption of fighting during negotiations, and the return of the UN-led aid distribution system, the sources close to the discussions told AFP. At least 445 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, according to an AFP tally. The war has created dire humanitarian conditions for the more than two million people in the Gaza Strip. Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed at least 57,523 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory's health ministry. The UN considers the figures reliable.
