Interestingly, the teaser video also shows the Mahindra Electric Origin SUV logo, suggesting this new platform could serve both traditional and electric models. The NU platform will be built at Mahindra's Chakan plant, which is currently undergoing major upgrades to increase production capacity and prepare for next-gen vehicles, as per NDTV Auto. Next-Gen Bolero and Thar in the Works? Industry insiders believe that Mahindra might launch the upcoming Bolero or Thar Sports on this new platform. Though not officially confirmed, the next-gen Bolero has already been spotted testing, and is expected to feature a monocoque structure, making it lighter and more efficient. Rumours also suggest that Mahindra is working on hybrid technology, focusing on range-extender plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) instead of traditional self-charging hybrids. This would give drivers more electric range and efficiency, without compromising performance. The spy images indicate that the upcoming Bolero will feature a boxy design. At the front, there are circular headlights, while the rear is equipped with vertical tail lights. It is crucial to mention that these lights are not intended for production. Additionally, the spy images imply the presence of a full-size spare tire mounted on the tailgate. Another observation is the inclusion of flush door handles. The front section of the SUV is characterized by a grille featuring vertical slats, prominently displaying Mahindra's logo at the center. The side profile of the new SUV bears a resemblance to the Land Rover Defender, showcasing flat sides and squared-off wheel arches. Additionally, alloy wheels are available on the sides. Few of the things that were noticed by the spotter are a side step that will make it easier for people to climb up on the roof. One of the most significant updates could be the SUV's transition to Mahindra's newly developed New Flexible Architecture (NFA) platform. This monocoque chassis is likely to mark a departure from the traditional body-on-frame construction and promise improved weight efficiency and compatibility with modern powertrains, including hybrid and electric options. The NFA platform will also underpin several upcoming models, with production taking place at Mahindra's Chakan plant. Reportedly, the facility is anticipated to produce up to 1.2 lakh vehicles based on this platform, aiding the company in meeting the stringent CAFE 3 emission norms by 2027. Spy images of the camouflaged prototype reveal a boxy silhouette that harks back to the Bolero's rugged roots, while borrowing cues from premium SUVs. The front end features circular headlamps and a bold grille with vertical slats, complete with Mahindra's updated twin peaks logo at the centre. Vertical tail lamps and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel reinforce the utilitarian design, although it is worth noting that the lights seen on the test mule are not final production units. This flexibility allows Mahindra to keep up with changes in the automotive market and meet consumer preferences. The first model to launch on the NFA platform could be the next-generation Mahindra Bolero, set to debut in 2026. An electric version, the Bolero EV, is also expected as part of Mahindra's plan to expand into electric vehicles. The SUV manufacturer also plans to increase the production units by 30,000 for both Thar Roxx and 3XO models by FY'26.
