Warriors v Tigers live updates: Warriors eye return to form
Live updates of the NRL clash between the Warriors and the Wests Tigers. Tanah Boyd will make his Warriors NRL debut after being named to start at halfback for today's NRL clash with the Wests Tigers in Auckland. After Luke Metcalf's season-ending ACL injury, coach Andrew Webster has been forced to make a change in the No 7 jersey and he's enlisted his faith in Boyd, who has led the club's reserve squad to the top of the table in the New South Wales Cup. The 24-year-old is in his first season at the club, having joined from the Gold Coast Titans where he made 69 appearances in five years. Boyd told the Herald earlier this month that he was ready to step up if called upon. Meanwhile, there are two changes in the outside backs with Taine Tuaupiki replacing the injured Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad at fullback, while Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is poised to make a shock return from an ankle injury. Nicoll-Klokstad is set to be sidelined until round 21 with an MCL injury, while Watene-Zelezniak was originally ruled out for four to six weeks after suffering an ankle injury three weeks ago against Penrith. In the forwards, Jackson Ford starts in the front row with Marata Niukore listed in the second row alongside Leka Halasima. Kurk Capewell also has a chance of playing after being named on the extended bench. Capewell is aiming to help Queensland win the State of Origin decider on Wednesday night. Victory is paramount for the Warriors if they are to finish inside the top four as they currently sit four points above the fifth-placed Broncos, who have a bye up their sleeve. The Warriors beat the Tigers 26-24 back in round four, highlighted by a stunning length of the field try to Leka Halasima. Warriors: 1. Taine Tuaupiki, 2. Adam Pompey, 3. Kurt Capewell, 4. Rocco Berry, 5. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, 6. Chanel Harris-Tavita, 7. Tanah Boyd, 8. James Fisher-Harris (c), 9. Wayde Egan, 10. Jackson Ford, 11. Leka Halasima, 12. Marata Niukore 13. Erin Clark. Interchange (from): 14. Te Maire Martin, 15. Jacob Laban, 16. Demetric Vaimauga, 17. Tanner Stowers-Smith, 18. Eddie Ieremia-Toeava, 20. Sam Healey, 21. Bunty Afoa, 22. Ed Kosi, 23. Kurt Capewell.

Why this week cruelly exposes wooden spoon favourite's halfback hoodoo
As Titans star Jayden Campbell declared his days as a fullback were over, with his future now in the halves, the man he replaced will highlight a concerning carousel the Gold Coast club needs to rectify. Tanah Boyd was released from Parkwood at the end of last year to take up a deal with the New Zealand Warriors, after managing just 23 wins from 67 appearances as both the side's No.7 and in stints coming off the bench. The Keebra Park product will make his first NRL appearance for his new side this week after Luke Metcalf ruptured his ACL, after coming up with 16 try assists and 10 linebreak assists from 13 New South Wales Cup wins this year. In doing so, Boyd ensures the competition's top four teams all field a halfback who was discarded from the Titans. Bulldogs general Toby Sexton, Melbourne superstar Jahrome Hughes, and Canberra leader Jamal Fogarty have all found success since being let go, while the Gold Coast have struggled to lock down a chief playmaker since Scott Prince's final appearance on the Glitter Strip in 2012. Loading Albert Kelly, Kane Elgey, Ashley Taylor, Tyrone Roberts, Ryley Jacks and Aidan Sezer have joined the aforementioned quartet in coming and going, while Cameron Cullen and utilities Daniel Mortimer and Will Smith were also infrequently used. It makes Campbell's retention as he comes off contract at the end of 2026 so crucial. But with the Perth Bears to join the competition the following year, the club could face a battle for his services. However, the son of Titans great Preston Campbell said he was yet to consider his long-term future.

State of Origin game 3: Live updates from Allianz Stadium
Live updates of the State of Origin decider between New South Wales and Queensland. Former Warrior Kevin Campion's game three prediction Former Warrior Kevin Campion has backed Queensland to upset New South Wales in State of Origin's game-three decider in Sydney on Wednesday night. The 53-year-old was the Warriors' first Origin player, representing the Maroons in the 2001 and 2002 campaigns, attaining a draw and a win. He also featured for Queensland in the 1997 Super League Tri-Series, won by New South Wales. Campion is predicting a 13-12 victory for the Maroons. The series is evenly poised, with highly fancied New South Wales taking the opener, before Queensland triumped in an epic second clash. 'It's going to be a low-scoring game. It'll come down to a field goal. This will be one of the great games of rugby league,' he said. 'Queensland have to play at their best to beat New South Wales. They're such a great side full of superstars, and we're certainly the underdogs. 'If we win by one, I'll be very happy.' Campion is championing the efforts of current Warrior Kurt Capewell, who has retained his spot in the second row for Queensland after being called in for game two. 'He's been outstanding all year for the Warriors, so I wasn't surprised he got a call-up in game two, and he was outstanding in defence. He's been outstanding playing out of position for the Warriors in the centres.' It is an intriguing week for the Warriors selectors ahead of the NRL match against the Tigers at Mt Smart on Sunday. Halfback Luke Metcalf is out for the season with an ACL injury, while fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is sidelined for a month with a MCL tear. Te Maire Martin and Tanah Boyd are the two favourites to replace Metcalf in the No 7 jersey. Martin has been used off the interchange as a utility back while Boyd has been a staple of the Warriors' New South Wales Cup side that have won 11 consecutive games. Campion is calling for Martin to play halfback, although both options are solid. 'Martin's been used off the bench a bit more. Tanah can play half, hooker; he can play different positions as well. But I'd like to see Te Maire get a shot there.' The Warriors earlier lost co-captain Mitch Barnett for the season to an ACL injury, while winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is also out until round 22 with an ankle issue. Campion is pointing to the success of the reserve grade side as evidence they will manage the continued personnel blows. 'I know we've got the depth because our New South Wales team is going really well. There are a lot of experienced first-graders who are chomping at the bit to get in that top side.'

‘The big fella had a few tears': Injuries inspire unsung Broncos' debutant
In a side decimated by players withdrawn for State of Origin duties, the Broncos are set to usher in an unheralded debutant for a crucial clash with the Bulldogs. Ben Talty arrived from the North Sydney Bears midseason on a train-and-trial deal through to the end of 2026, having amassed 85 games in the New South Wales Cup. Named at 19th man for Friday night, he will replace Corey Jensen, out with a calf injury. Talty's call-up continues coach Michael Maguire's habit of forging careers. 'We've got some good stories. Ben Talty came in here about a month ago, he's put his head down and is going to be on the bench,' Maguire said. 'He reminded me about how special rugby league is. Loading 'I was able to sit with him yesterday and talk about how he was going to debut. The big fella had a few tears and gave me a big squeeze, and it actually gave me a real sense of what it really means to play. 'He's been trying, he's 26 now, so it just goes to show how special it is what our game brings. He's a great fella, he's a middle forward and done a bit of time down at the Storm.
