Arrest made after several businesses set alight in New Westminster, B.C.
Police have made an arrest in connection to a series of fires that occurred within businesses in New Westminster, B.C., last week.
Officers were first called to a suspicious fire inside a store in the 600 block of 6th Street in the city's Uptown neighbourhood around 5 p.m. June 13, the New West Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.
After arriving at the blaze with the New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service, they learned a second suspicious fire had been found at another business in the same block.
Approximately four hours later, police were called to a third blaze in the 600 block of 7th Avenue.
An arrest near the scene was made 'without incident,' police said.
'We'd like to thank the store staff for calling 9-1-1 so quickly,' said Sgt. Andrew Leaver in the statement.
'This allows us to start work right away, and in this case we were able to begin working with fire investigators and obtain a suspect description.'
Police are still investigating the incident and anyone who has relevant information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to call 604-525-5411 and reference file number 2025-10022.
