Fact Check: Did Kim Soo Hyun sell his luxury apartment to pay for lawsuit costs? Know the real reason behind the Galleria Forêt $6.1 million deal
Kim Soo Hyun is believed to have rushed to close a deal for one of his three Galleria Forêt apartments in Seoul's Seongsu Dong on July 8. Speculation has been rife that the K-drama star did this to fund the looming lawsuits filed by former advertisers who dropped him post the Kim Sae Ron case and are now seeking millions in damages. Meanwhile, Soo Hyun's legal team has challenged the evidence on which the advertisers have based their lawsuit, claiming that the material provided by Garo Sero is fabricated. If that turns out to be true, the advertisers might land in trouble. Hours after the report surfaced, some insiders suggested the news isn't exactly how it's being shown, and the sale of the apartment had actually been pre-planned. Also read: Kim Soo Hyun's accuser loses big in high-profile case against YouTuber Tzuyang; court slaps ₩10 million fine per video According to Newsen, the recent sale went through for 8 billion KRW (around $6.1 million USD). He had originally bought it back in October 2014 for 3.02 billion KRW, making a massive 4.98 billion KRW profit over 11 years. The sale happened just days after one of the advertisers was granted a court ruling to seize one of the actor's luxury Galleria Forêt apartments. Some thought he was cashing out to cover legal fees. One of Soo Hyun's lawyers at the time said, 'The advertising fees were already paid, but due to recent controversies, the use of the advertisements became difficult, leading to the advertisers' claims for damages.' He added, 'If Kim Soo Hyun's reputation is restored, these lawsuits are likely to be resolved naturally.' However, according to Allkpop, an insider aware of the situation says the deal was long planned. The buyer had already been lined up last year, and Kim's team confirmed the sale wasn't a rushed decision. Kim's agency, Gold Medalist, had earlier also dismissed all claims about him going broke over lawsuits. Kim still owns two more apartments in the same building, both large units, one bought in 2013 and another in 2024. Out of the two, one is currently under provisional seizure following a 3 billion KRW claim from a medical firm and another 100 million KRW claim from a Malaysian client, reports Newsen. Also read: Kim Soo Hyun's name used to sell stories without proof: 25 media outlets cautioned by Korea's Ethics panel Kim Soo Hyun is now neck-deep in a legal war after his reputation took a hit following Korean actor Kim Sae Ron's tragic death. The controversy blew up when YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute and Sae Ron's family accused him of being in a long-term relationship with her while she was still underage. Rumours linked Soo Hyun to her financial troubles. He later addressed the buzz in a press conference, confirming they did date, but made it clear it wasn't when she was a minor. Since then, both sides have filed lawsuits and defamation complaints, and several brands have pulled away, even demanding compensation.

Is Kim Soo Hyun personally involved in provisional seizure of Garosero YouTuber's assets amid Kim Sae Ron scandal?
The Kim Soo Hyun-Kim Sae Ron dating scandal had a major development with the actress' side receiving their first major blow. It included the court ordering for seizure of two properties of YouTuber Kim Se Eui of Garosero Research Institute– the one who amplified Kim Sae Ron's family's messages to the world. As per a June 11 report by Newsen, Kim Soo Hyun was directly involved in the provisional seizure of assets. Read to know how. Garosero's Kim Se Eui slapped with seizure of 2 real estate assets Kim Se Eui was the constant supporter of Kim Sae Ron 's bereaved family and all the revelations regarding the two actors' past involvement with each other was made through his YouTube channel. Due to that, a damages lawsuit was filed and asset seizure request was made by Kim Soo Hyun's agency against Kim Se Eui, which resulted favourably for the actor's side. The Seoul Central District Court approved the real estate seizure request of GOLDMEDALIST, worth 11 billion KRW (about 8 million USD). It allowed the agency to claim two of Kim Se Ui's luxury residential properties, with their total worth being 4 billion KRW (about 2.93 million USD). The properties included a Hanyang 4th Apartment in Apgujeong and a Buksan Blooming Apartment in Seocho. Kim Soo Hyun's direct involvement in provisional seizure of Garosero operator Kim Soo Hyun was explicitly named as a creditor in the provisional seizure of Garosero Institute Co., Ltd.'s bank account holding corporate sponsorship funds. This move underscored his hands-on approach in pursuing legal action against the whistle-blower. The reason Kim Soo Hyun's name wasn't included in the real estate seizures, according to LKB & Partners, his legal team, was that registering a claim on real estate would require making his personal details publicly accessible. To maintain his privacy and keep crucial information out of reach of the opposing party, Kim Soo Hyun strategically decided to participate directly only in the bank account seizure, thereby maintaining confidentiality. The issue stemmed from Kim Sae Ron's side accusing Kim Soo Hyun of being involved romantically with the late actress during her underage days. Kim Soo Hyun legally refuted it, filing defamation charges against both the bereaved family and the Garosero operator.

Police chase BTS agency chair Bang Si Hyuk in 400 Billion KRW stock fraud probe, search warrant issued against HYBE
Bang Si Hyuk, the founder and chairman of HYBE (BTS label), is at the center of an intensifying police investigation into alleged fraudulent transactions, and now, the police have taken a critical next step. Police Authorities have officially applied for a search and seizure warrant against HYBE and related parties. According to Newsen, the Seoul Metropolitan Police's Financial Crime Investigation Unit submitted the request to the Securities Crime Joint Investigation Unit of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office. This is their second attempt after an earlier request was rejected in early May. What Is Bang Si Hyuk's Controversy? Bang Si Huk and his close associates misled investors in 2019 about HYBE's plans to go public. At the time, the company, then known as BigHit Entertainment, reportedly told certain investors there were no immediate IPO (Initial Public Offering) plans, citing unfavorable market conditions. However, around that same time, HYBE had already applied for a designated audit, a formal and significant first step in the process of preparing for an IPO. The case involves a 400 billion KRW (approx. USD 290 million) deal, allegedly tied to misleading investors and hidden profit-sharing. Why is The Police Investigating? Police now believe this discrepancy may not have been accidental. HYBE was quietly laying the groundwork for its blockbuster stock market debut in 2020. Some early investors, taking management's words at face value, sold their shares, private equity firms like Easton PE and Newmain Equity stepped in and bought stakes later that year. The Financial Supervisory Service is also conducting its review, raising the stakes further. If police can prove that HYBE intentionally misled investors during this period, the case could evolve into a significant capital markets scandal. For now, prosecutors are reviewing the warrant request. If approved, it could give investigators access to crucial internal materials from HYBE. But the question remains: Will this affect BTS? The answer is both no and yes. No, because BTS as a group is not involved in the investigation. They have no connection to the alleged fraudulent transactions, and their name hasn't come up in any part of the scandal. The members are completely separate from the business dealings under scrutiny. Yes, in the sense that BTS is closely tied to HYBE and its subsidiary BigHit Music. Public perception of the company may indirectly cast a shadow, simply because of that association. However, it's unlikely to have any lasting impact on the group itself. One can take it mostly as no effect will fall upon BTS.
