Drumiskin's Dearbhla does the double at National Juvenile Track and Field Championships

The club was due to have two athletes in action but unfortunately Dearbhla's sister Niamh had to withdraw due to injury leaving her older sister to carry the St Peter's flag. As Dearbhla is now in the U19 age category this would be her last juvenile track and field championships and what a championship it turned out to be. The race scheduling wasn't ideal however, Dearbhla is made of tough stuff and took it all in her stride. On Saturday she competed in the 3000m U19 race taking an early lead. She drilled out a very impressive performance pulling further away from her competitors with each lap to storm to victory in a new personal best time of 9.50.03. On Sunday Dearbhla again travelled to Tullamore to compete over 3000m for a second time, on this occasion however, it was in the steeplechase. Most athletes would have been concerned competing in such a physically demanding race so soon after a 3000 flat race however, if Dearbhla was concerned she didn't show it. Taking the lead on the second lap, a lead she wouldn't relinquish, Dearbhla managed to pull away from her competitors, most of them with fresher legs having not run the previous day. As the race came to the closing stages there was only going to be one winner as the St Pater's athlete romped to a championship best time of 10.34.96 knocking 45 seconds off the previous record. The added bonus for Dearbhla was that for the third time, her finishing time was inside the required European Championship standard.

Wexford skincare company sweeps 14 accolades in global beauty awards

The Green Beauty Awards exist to spotlight the products, people, and brands setting new standards in sustainable beauty. Their goal isn't just to reward what's popular, but to highlight what's truly progressive. From packaging that reduces waste to ingredients backed by science and integrity, winning entries reflect the direction the beauty industry is heading—thoughtful, transparent, and accountable. The awards are judged by a dedicated panel of independent experts from across the beauty industry. This includes professionals with backgrounds in formulation, beauty journalism, skincare education, and sustainability. A representative explained what the judges are looking for: 'judging is based on more than just first impressions. We look at the quality and efficacy of each product, as well as how well the brand aligns with the green values of the category they've entered. This includes factors like ingredient sourcing, packaging choices, ethical manufacturing, and overall environmental impact.' "This is our sixth 'green' awards and it has been truly quite astonishing. We had an incredible 700 plus product entries of a variety of green, clean and eco beauty products. The awards celebrates the beauty industry's move towards making their products, packaging and sourcing more kind to the planet and indeed to our skin,' they added. As such, they have seen a huge shift in brands looking at their packaging and what they house the products in. Many have revisited their approach to plastic - some are looking at plastic neutral, others at recycled plastic, bio plastic, plastic that can be recycled after use, and others looking at refills for their containers. Holos was very successful in the 2025 competition, taking home 14 awards overall for a range of popular products. They took home the award for Best Vegan Face Oil, Best Vegan Hand Product, Best Aluminium Packaging, Best Vegan Beauty Product, Best 100 per cent Plant Based Beauty Product, Best Argan Product, and Best Shea Butter Product among many more. The Enniscorthy-based brand was founded in 2013, arising from Niamh Hogan's passion for botanical skincare, and her work as an holistic therapist. Just ten years since the first Holos collection, the business is achieving annual global sales of over €1M. Speaking on the win, Niamh said: 'It means the world to see our products recognised with these incredible awards. A massive thank you to our amazing community.'

American TikTok having a cut off 'Irish noses'

Irish social media users are up in arms after a new trend has emerged online where Americans show off their Irish heritage. The trend sees TikTok users take to the app to show off their 'Irish nose.' Yep, you read that right. Obviously, there is no such thing as an 'Irish nose,' with those taking part in the trend facing some backlash. Irish social media users are up in arms after a new trend has emerged online where Americans show off their Irish heritage. Pic: Shutterstock One person shared a glimpse of her nose, revealing 'this is the nose of my mother, her sisters, my grandmother and many more hailed from Kilkenny.' A comment left under the post said: 'I saw this trend and I was like omg do I have an Irish nose bc [because] it's long and pointy, but then everyone under this has completely different noses. And the Irish say there's no such thing as an Irish nose.' The original poster admitted she was 'surprised at how negative some of the comments got.' @maniacmckee Growing up I wanted my sisters nose. It was cute and little and pointed with a little scoop along the bridge. She has our paternal grandmothers nose from the Swedish side of the family. But I'm so happy to have the nose of our mom, her sisters my maternal grandmother and many others that came from the Emerald Isle ☘️ #irishheritage #family ♬ original sound – meadhbhwalshmusic She explained: 'For me, this trend was about how lovely it is to see a certain facial feature be passed down the generations. Not that I am Irish but that I have ancestors from there starting with my maternal great grandmother and perhaps that's where this feature came from. 'Can't please everyone but I was coming from a good place.' @niamhoconnnor Irish nose???? 😭😭😭 ♬ original sound – meadhbhwalshmusic Content creator Niamh O'Connor was amongst those hitting out at the latest trend, writing: 'Dear America: There is no such thing as an Irish nose. You made it up. Love from Ireland.' Niamh's post received more than 40,000 likes from people in agreement with her with many taking to the comments venting their frustrations. One said: 'We only have big Irish heads.' Another added: 'Literally you cannot tell when someone is Irish apart from their accent.' A third added: 'It's the same with 'Irish hair' and 'Irish eyes,' they just love to put Irish onto anything.' Ironically, the song, Will Ye Go Lassie, that is accompanying the trend is more of a Scottish folk song, despite Cork musician Maedhbh Walsh singing her own version.
