Red Sox roster moves: Masataka Yoshida returns, reliever moved to 60-day IL
BOSTON — Masataka Yoshida is officially back. The Red Sox made three roster moves before their game against the Rockies on Wednesday. They officially reinstated Yoshida from the 60-day injured list and optioned Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester. To make room for Yoshida on the 40-man roster, Boston transferred right-handed reliever Nick Burdi from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Yoshida is returning from a right shoulder labral repair that he underwent last October. He will make his 2025 debut as the DH. He's batting sixth in the lineup. The 31-year-old Japanese outfielder has batted .285 with a .343 on-base percentage, .433 slugging percentage, .775 OPS, 25 homers, 54 doubles, three triples, 128 RBIs, 116 runs, 61 walks and 133 strikeouts in 248 games (1,001 plate appearances) for Boston over two seasons (2023-24). Burdi has been on the injured list since June 3 with a right foot contusion. He hard-throwing righty has pitched 5 ⅓ scoreless innings over four relief appearances for Boston this year. BOSTON — Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks has been placed on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right hip. The Red Sox announced Friday the move is retroactive to Wednesday and that right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi had been recalled from Triple-A Worcester. Hendriks has made 14 appearances this season, posting a 6.59 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings. He has 116 saves in 490 career games with six teams since 2007.

May 30 - The Boston Red Sox placed right-handed reliever Liam Hendriks on the 15-day injured list on Friday, retroactive to Wednesday, with right hip inflammation. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox recalled right-handed reliever Nick Burdi from Triple-A Worcester. Hendriks, 36, is 0-2 in 14 appearances with a 6.59 ERA in 13 2/3 innings this season. He did not make his season debut until April 20 due to a compressed nerve in his right forearm. A three-time All-Star closer, Hendriks underwent treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in early 2023 and missed all of the 2024 season following Tommy John surgery. In 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2011-13), Toronto Blue Jays (2014, 2015), Kansas City Royals (2014), Oakland Athletics (2016-20), Chicago White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox, Hendriks is 33-36 with 116 saves and a 3.88 ERA in 663 2/3 innings over 490 games (44 starts). This will be the 32-year-old Burdi's second stint this season with the Red Sox, having allowed four hits and one walk in 2 1/3 innings in two previous appearances. At Triple-A Worcester, Burdi is 4-0 with four saves and an 0.48 ERA in 15 appearances.
