Twitch streamer Nmplol criticised for insensitive comments on Texas floods that killed over 100

Twitch streamer Nmplol, whose real name is Nick Polom, has come under criticism after making remarks about the recent Texas floods that have killed more than 100 people, including children. The streamer, who has over 1.2 million followers, responded to reports that many of those who died were children by saying they 'don't have much left for them anyways, it's okay.' In a video posted on social media, someone can be heard saying, 'they had their whole lives ahead of them,' to which Polom replied, 'Their whole lives? When they're older every job is gonna be AI, everything they learn is on ChatGPT, there is no future.' After the video circulated, Polom attempted to retract his remarks, posting on X, 'Sorry guys joke went too far. I wasn't fully aware of the situation. It's tragic what's happened. I'll be more mindful going forward. Hope everyone stays safe and dry in Texas.' Sorry guys joke went too far. I wasn't fully aware of the situation. It's tragic what's happened. I'll be more mindful going forward. Hope everyone stays safe and dry in Texas. ❤️❤️ — Nick Polom (@nmplol) July 6, 2025 Some social media users criticised Polom's apology, with one user writing, 'I highly doubt you're actually sorry. You're so wrong for this bro,' while another commented, 'I'll believe you're sorry when I see you make a massive donation to help the survivors. Words are cheap.' Others defended the streamer, suggesting the comments were made in poor taste but did not warrant condemnation. The floods in Texas have killed at least 104 people, with many victims in Kerr County, including 28 children. The search for missing people continues as further rain is expected across the region.
