Texas braces for more rain as death toll mounts to at least 82 with dozens missing
Update: Date: 5 min ago Title: 'The warnings have to be taken seriously,' volunteer urges as flood threat looms over Kerrville Content: Volunteers are heeding to flood warnings and moving to higher ground amid dangerous rescue and recovery efforts in Kerrville, Texas, a volunteer rescuer told CNN. First responders are still struggling to connect with each other while some radios are also not working, said Nick Sortor, a public information officer with the United Cajun Navy, a volunteer rescue group from Louisiana assisting in the search and rescue efforts in Kerrville. Rescuers are out near the riverbed where floodwaters have receded 'a little bit' and are 'still trying to dig' for any survivors, Sortor told CNN's Polo Sandoval. The group has also been outfitting vehicles with Starlink's satellite communication devices to ensure proper communications, as authorities have warned about further possible flooding. 'Today, a lot of rescue workers had to pull out of the area and get to higher ground because there were reports of a wall of water that was headed right downstream, straight back at Kerrville,' said Sortor. It's also critical to make sure civilians are totally out of any flood warning areas, he added. 'The warnings have to be absolutely taken seriously.' Update: Date: 14 min ago Title: At least 82 people have died while more rain brings new threat. Here's the latest Content: The death toll from the catastrophic Texas floods has reached at least 82, with dozens more still missing. A new round of rain is expected to swell waterways in Kerr County, where Camp Mystic is located, and officials are warning of the potential impacts. Here's the latest: Death toll: At least 82 people have died after floods rushed through central Texas during the July 4 weekend. The toll includes at least 28 children in Kerr County, where 10 girls and one counselor from Camp Mystic are still unaccounted for. The toll has risen as local emergency officials across the state carry out search, rescue and recovery efforts. Rising water levels: Waterways in some of the most devastated parts of central Texas are beginning to swell once again as more rain falls in the area. Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday flash flooding could still pose a danger for some regions of Texas over the next few days as 'more heavy rainfall' is expected. Missing campers: Crews are continuing to search for 10 campers and one counsellor from Camp Mystic, the all girls' summer camp near the Guadalupe River. Crews are searching by land and air, with the Texas Air National Guard using remotely piloted military drones typically used by the military to conduct surveillance. Emergency readiness: Records show officials in Kerr County previously considered installing flood warning sirens, but the plan never came to fruition. While the National Weather Service issued a slew of alerts before the storm, questions have been raised about the agency's staffing and ability to reach residents at the time of the disaster. Update: Date: 16 min ago Title: Water levels rise in Kerr County as additional rain falls in flood-ridden areas Content: Waterways in some of the most devastated parts of central Texas are beginning to swell once again as more rain falls in the area. The rain, impacting the upper Guadalupe basin this afternoon, has led to a rise in Johnson Creek in Kerr County, where 68 people have died due to flash flooding as of Sunday evening. 'This water may lead to a rise of [one to two feet] downstream when it enters the Guadalupe river in Ingram,' the Kerr County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post this evening. 'Please be aware if you are near the Guadalupe River or Johnson Creek,' the post said. The City of Ingram sits along the river, about 6 miles west of the City of Kerrville. Update: Date: 16 min ago Title: Video: Timelapse shows speed of floodwater rising in Texas Content: A timelapse, captured on Friday, shows how quickly floodwaters rose along the Llano River in Kingsland, Texas. The video, which was sped up, shows the water rush in and rise along the river in the span of 30 minutes. Update: Date: 16 min ago Title: Camp Mystic night security guard hailed as hero for saving campers' lives Content: A man who worked as a night security guard at Camp Mystic is being hailed as a hero for saving the lives of campers after devastating floods struck the Kerr County, Texas, area on Friday. In a statement to CNN, Glenn Juenke says he has served as the night watchman at the camp for the past four summers. He was on duty when the floodwaters began to rush in. Juenke explained the campers were inside a building called the Wiggle Inn, and when the water started to rise, he placed the girls on mattresses to help them ride it out safely. 'I witnessed firsthand the courage and faith that your daughters displayed during some of the most terrifying moments of their young lives,' Juenke said. 'Each of those sweet girls (were) cold, wet, and frightened — but they were also incredibly brave. They trusted me, and we leaned on each other through a long, harrowing night together inside their cabin.'

Videos/Pics: Nat'l Guard deployed amid major anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles
Roughly 300 members of the California National Guard were deployed to Los Angeles and the surrounding region on Sunday following President Donald Trump's authorization to deploy 2,000 National Guard members to address violent riots formed in protest of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. In a Sunday press release, U.S. Northern Command announced that roughly 2,000 California Army National Guard soldiers had been placed under federal control as part of Title 10 status to 'support the protection of federal personnel and federal property in the greater Los Angeles area.' U.S. Northern Command explained that roughly 300 members of the California Army National Guard's 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were deployed as of Sunday in Los Angeles, Compton, and Paramount. Sunday's press release also noted that roughly 500 Marines from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, were ready to be deployed if needed to help the Department of Defense protect 'federal property and personnel efforts' Los Angeles and the surrounding region. READ MORE: Video: Democrat staffer detained for allegedly 'harboring rioters' U.S. Northern Command also released pictures on social media of the National Guard troops deployed to the Los Angeles area. #USNORTHCOM can confirm that elements of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from the California National Guard have begun deploying to the Los Angeles area, with some already on the ground. Additional information will be provided as units are identified and deployed. — U.S. Northern Command (@USNorthernCmd) June 8, 2025 Videos shared on X, formerly Twitter, by journalist Nick Sortor show National Guard troops in Los Angeles as well as a large crowd of rioters launching fireworks, displaying foreign flags, and protesting against ICE operations to detain and deport illegal immigrants in California. 🚨 #BREAKING: President Trump has just ORDERED DHS and the National Guard to 'take any action necessary LIBERATE LOS ANGELES from illegals' LET'S GO! 'Order will be restored and illegals will be EXPELLED!' 🇺🇸 — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) June 8, 2025 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel warned on Monday that Los Angeles was 'under siege by marauding criminals' after rioters clashed with law enforcement officials throughout the weekend. According to the Associated Press, some protesters threw rocks, concrete, fireworks, and electric scooters at law enforcement officials, while other protesters tried blocking Border Patrol vehicles and disrupting ICE operations. In a Saturday statement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt noted that 'violent mobs' had attacked ICE agents and federal law enforcement officials while executing 'basic deportation operations' in Los Angeles. As riots continued throughout Los Angeles on Sunday following the deployment of the National Guard, Trump issued a statement on Truth Social saying, 'A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals. Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve.' Trump explained that he was directing Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to 'take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots.' The president added, 'Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free.'

Los Angeles Rioters Trash, Burn Robotaxis
Read the full story on The Auto Wire In case you haven't heard, there's been quite a bit of rioting in Los Angeles and Waymo robotaxis have become targets. This isn't the first time we've seen the driverless cars stopped and trashed by angry mobs, although in the past we've only seen it happen with maybe one or this seems to be at least several of the Jaguar I-PACEs bristling with pricey sensors. Now all of that is destroyed to make a political point. We wonder if Waymo will continue to operate in certain areas if this is how its vehicles are treated. 🚨 LINES OF CARS are now burning in the streets of Los Angeles, and police are LETTING IT HAPPENNOBODY IS NEED MARINES, NOW! — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) June 9, 2025 Other vehicles were also graffitied, trashed, and burned in the Los Angeles riots. One video uploaded to X shows a man smashing the windows of an already graffitied autonomous taxi, using a bike lock to do the damage. Onlookers film the act while other robotaxis burn just a few hundred feet away. 🚨🚨BREAKING VIOLENCE: a Waymo has been lit on FIRE while several others are completely vandalized I am on the ground now FOLLOW FOR UPDATES | LA riots — Cam Higby | America First 🇺🇸 (@camhigby) June 9, 2025 We can only assume that one, after getting tagged and the glass busted out, was destined for a similar, fiery but mostly peaceful fate. A videographer caught how at least one of the robotaxis was set on fire. One of the rioters put an American flag on the center console, then lit it on fire, we assume to let everyone know how much he hates the United States, taking out the vehicle with it. BREAKING 🚨: Protestors light an American Flag on fire in an attempt to light another WayMo vehicle on no police or firefighter response to the fires. Things are quickly Ángeles, CA — Anthony (@AnthonyCabassa_) June 9, 2025 There are theories that the rioters hailed the Waymo robotaxis using the app on their phones, then destroyed them. We can't confirm if that's true or if the vehicles just happened to be in the area of the rioting. What we do know is autonomous cars are often attacked and destroyed in riots. Theories about why that is run the range, from protestors seeing them as symbols of capitalism or the wealthy class. JUST IN: Rioter holding a Mexican flag stands on a demolished Waymo car.'The streets in LA officially belong to the rioters.' - @ — Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) June 9, 2025 We're not huge fans of autonomous taxis, but if people want to use them that's their business. Destroying them because you're not getting your way seems like toddler behavior to us. People are asking why the police aren't stopping this. Well, the Los Angeles Police Department already put out a statement about the riots, saying they 'remained peaceful.' We guess if you ignore the problem, you don't have to solve it. HAPPENING NOW 🚨: A protestor waves a Mexican Flag in front of a burning WayMo vehicle. Multiple vehicles have been destroyed, no police presence in this affected Angeles, CA — Anthony (@AnthonyCabassa_) June 9, 2025 There was an incident caught on camera of some California Highway Patrol officers caught under an overpass as rioters above pelted their cars and tried to hit officers with rocks, electric scooters, and other items. 🚨 #BREAKING: California Highway Patrol officers have now been cornered and are TRAPPED UNDER AN OVERPASS as vioIent insurrectionists launch rocks and expIosives at themLAPD is NOWHERE to be GUYS NEED HELP, @realDonaldTrump! Newsom is leaving them to DlE! — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) June 9, 2025 One rioter even tried lighting the CHP cruisers on fire from the overpass. So that's where the police are while Waymo loses who knows who many robotaxis, along with all the other damage done to Los Angeles. Police are trapped under an LA overpass and rioters are now lighting their police cars on fire from the bridge above them: — Clay Travis (@ClayTravis) June 9, 2025 It's not clear exactly how much one of these Waymo Jaguar I-PACEs cost the company. Estimates are that on top of the $72,000 MSRP there's about $130,000 to $150,000 in equipment added to the electric cars. Those are estimates, so the amount could be significantly higher, but we would be shocked if it were lower. In other words, this is costing Waymo or the insurance company covering the robotaxis. As 10s of 1000s of Liverpudlians crowded the streets to celebrate their team's long-await English Premier (Football) League victory……a car collided with a number of people in Liverpool city center.🚨 #BREAKING: A suspected attack has just occurred in Liverpool as locals celebrate a football victoryA driver rammed through a parade, running down dozens of localsLiverpool just *happens* to be one of the Middle East migration capitals of a coincidence, I'm sure! Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) May 26, 2025 Emergency services descended on Water Street after Merseyside Police were contacted just after 6pm on Monday with reports of the incident. An unknown number of people were injured, with images capturing one person being taken away on a stretcher and a man walking with his arm around a police officer for support. A crowd of fans immediately descended on the vehicle as emergency services surrounded it… 'The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained,' said Merseyside Police in a statement. Further footage from the car incident in Liverpool. This is not my footage. — Martin in Monmouthshire (@MartinMonmouth1) May 26, 2025 UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday expressed his shock: 'The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with those injured or affected,' he wrote on X, thanking the emergency services for their swift response. Harry Rashid (48) from Solihull, was at the parade with his wife and two young daughters when he witnessed the collision. He said: 'It happened about 10 feet away from us. We were just in a crowd and we had no control over where we would be, because it was a very narrow street. The vehicle came to our right. It emerged from just right next to an ambulance, which was parked up. This grey people carrier just pulled up from the right and just rammed into all the people at the side of us. 'It was travelling south, down Water Street, straight towards this strand, which is where the docks are. It was extremely fast. Initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car. Mr Rashid described how crowds began trying to smash the car windows: 'Then he stalled for a few seconds, probably about 10 seconds. Then the crowd that was a bit further back started rushing at him trying to smash his windows. 'But then he put his foot down again and just ploughed through the rest of them, he just kept going. It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people. Then my daughter started screaming and there were people on the ground. 'It looked clearly deliberate. They were just innocent people, just fans going to enjoy the parade. There were hundreds and thousands of us there because this is probably the busiest part of Liverpool.' 'We were shocked, couldn't believe it.' … 'I saw people lying on the ground, people unconscious. It was horrendous. So horrendous.' A 53-year-old man has been arrested, and Merseyside Police said the suspect was white, British and from the Liverpool area.
