Real Madrid opt against star's buy back option until 2026

Real Madrid have made a final call over bringing Argentina international Nico Paz back to the club this summer. Xabi Alonso is focused on defensive reinforcements as part of his squad refit with only one more arrival planned as he aims to stay with the La Liga panel limit Advertisement Benfica star Alvaro Carreras is expected to join fellow new arrivals Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold – with Franco Mastantuono landing in August – after he turns 18. Former Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti opted for a bold call on Paz last summer as he sold the highly-rated midfielder to Serie A side Como for a fee of €6m. However, with the club still looking to keep their options open on Paz, they agreed a structured exit package with Cesc Faregas' side. That included three separate buy-back options that would come into effect in 2025, 2026 and 2027 respectively. Nico Paz's Real Madrid return clause revealed The first of those, worth €8m, was triggered at the start of the summer, but as per Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia), it has since expired. Image viaAdvertisement Further rumours hinted at Real Madrid reaching out to Como, to see if an alternative agreement could be reached – but Alonso has now opted against that – as per Mundo Deportivo. The situation will be reviewed again in 2026, if Paz maintains his level in Serie A, on the back of a solid first year under Fabregas. Fabregas guided Como to promotion back to the Italian top-flight at the end of 2023/24, and he steered the team to a respectable 10th place last season, with Paz at the heart of his plans. The Canarian-born playmaker netted six league goals – with only two Como players scoring more – and eight league assists, bettered only by three players in Serie A. A similar campaign in 2025/26 will keep him firmly on Real Madrid's radar despite Alonso's eagerness to give Arda Guler a chance in his plans.

When the Spanish giants sold Paz to Como last summer, they included such an option. Advertisement Therefore, Inter or any other interested club could not simply negotiate with Como. They would have to wait and see what Real Madrid would do. However, Como have confirmed that Real Madrid have not exercised their buyback. Los Blancos do, however, have a buyback that becomes active once again next summer.

Real Madrid Cancels Expected First Team Transfer This Summer

Real Madrid has cancelled its expected pursuit of a former academy star that can return to the club ... More according to AS, which cited a report from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano using anonymous sources. Real Madrid has cancelled its expected pursuit of a former academy star that can return to the club according to AS, which cited a report from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano using anonymous sources. Madrid sold Nico Paz to Como last summer, after the Argentina international scored in the Champions League and therefore picked up a winners' medal in the continental competition to compliment others in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup as Carlo Ancelotti sealed an impressive treble in 2024/2025. The moneyed Italians paid $6.5 million (€6.3 million) for 50% of Paz's rights yet Madrid retained buyback options across the next three seasons for youngster as he continues to learn under FC Barcelona legend Cesc Fabregas. To be more specific, Madrid can pay $8.3 million (€8 million) for him this summer, $9.4 million (€9 million) in 2026 or $10.4 million (€10 million) in 2027. In his last weeks before being replaced by Xabi Alonso and taking the Brazil national team post, Ancelotti tipped Paz to become the future of the club and admitted that Madrid had been keeping tabs on him. 'Nico Paz is a player we follow a lot. He's very good and he's very talented. This season away from Real Madrid is very good for him. We believe that he is a player who can be the future of Real Madrid,' Ancelotti explained, to Italian outlet Rai Radio. Because of this, there were reports that Paz could complete the 'Carvajal route' this summer, in being a La Fabrica product sold by his boyhood club yet returning to the first team after gaining valuable experience elsewhere. According to Romano, however, that won't be happening any time soon. 'Real Madrid confirmed to Como that they won't activate €8m buy back clause for Nico Páz, also formal communication has arrived,' Romano tweeted. 'Como plan to keep Paz this summer and then Real will have €9m buy back clause for next summer,' he then added. Real Madrid should still make improvements to the squad Be that as it may, Real Madrid will still look to make improvements to the first team squad by looking to sign another central defender and a left back in Alvaro Carreras from Benfica. As part of a major overhaul, two midfielders are reportedly sought in the medium term.

Report – Real Madrid Can Wait To Activate Buyback Clause On Inter Milan Target Until Mid-July Real Madrid can wait until mid-July to activate their buyback option on Inter Milan linked Como midfielder Nico Paz. This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the Spanish giants' decision could remain up in the air until the 15th. Advertisement Inter Milan have been following midfielder Nico Paz closely for months now. The 20-year-old was one of the outstanding players in Serie A last season. He well and truly hit the ground running in his first season at Como after arriving from Real Madrid. Therefore, Inter have long viewed Paz as a dream signing. It won't be easy to make a deal for the Argentine international. One of the biggest questions has concerned Real Madrid's buyback option on Paz. Real Madrid Can Wait Until July 15th To Active Buyback On Inter Target Nico Paz COMO, ITALY – JANUARY 14: Nico Paz of Como 1907 looks on before the Serie A match between Como 1907 and AC Milan at Stadio G. Sinigaglia on January 14, 2025 in Como, Italy. (Photo by) Reports today emerged that Real Madrid will not activate their buyback option on Paz. Advertisement Today was to be the deadline for Los Blancos to take advantage of that clause. And there are no signs that they will do so. Therefore, it seemed as though Real Madrid would not take control of Paz's future. It would remain in the hands of Como for at least another year. However, FCInterNews report, Los Blancos can actually exercise the option until the 15th of July. That is because of the fact that FIFA has delayed the expiry of clauses set for the end of June until July 15th for clubs participating in the Club World Cup. Accordingly, Paz's future could remain even more up in the air. At least for a couple more weeks.
