HGTV star sparks concern as show Rehab Addict is taken off air after only two episodes
Nicole Curtis's wildly popular show Rehab Addict was pulled from the HGTV lineup after just two of the new season's episodes aired. That move caused fans of the bubbly blonde from Detroit to worry that something had happened to her. But fans need not worry, Nicole pulled the show herself, to give herself the summer off. The HGTV star took to Instagram to explain her decision to her fans why her good friend David Bromstad's Lottery Dream House would be airing in her show's place. Nicole, 48, began by thanking her viewers for making her show debut at number one before she dove into what was going on. 'I made the executive decision to shelf the rest of our new shows until Fall. I appreciate your support and understanding for the late notice,' she began. 'It's just a lot of hours (my hours) to get a show on air and we (my family +me) thought -why are we giving up Summer when we have the ability to do this in the Fall?' she noted. She went on to thank the 'powers that be at HGTV' for being 'receptive to our idea.' The star continued: 'Third, without a doubt, I, truly, am beyond happy with this decision as I just spent the day with a phone that was dead and had no worries about it. 'They are airing Lottery Dream Home in my place. Fun fact, David Bromstead was my pregnancy beach buddy as we were filming and living next to each other in Gulf Shores Alabama for Beach Flip (they just added those episodes to HboMax and Discovery+) So, don't be spreading rumors that he replaced me-I chose it ❤️.' The newest season of Rehab Addict premiered on June 24, only to be abruptly swapped out for My Lottery Dream House after 2 weeks. Rehab Addict first hit the airwaves in 2010 on the DIY Network. The show moved to HGTV in 2014 where it found broad appeal. The new season follows a three year hiatus for Curtis and the show. As for why she took time away, Curtis said she 'had a setback in my life that just rocked me to the core, and it was one of those moments where I thought, how do I get through this one?,' per People. 'I prayed on it and it was just devastating for me. I had to make a decision right there and then like, "Okay, we're going to let this affect us for a very long time, or we're going to pick it up and go"' The HGTV star took to Instagram to explain her decision to her fans so that they are not confused by her good friend David Bromstad's Lottery Dream House that is airing in her show's place She packed up her bags and left Detroit for Corfu, Greece via Paris where she planned to spend only one day. Except, she forgot her wallet and had less than $100 on her. 'I didn't realize until I was up in the air paying for my WiFi that I left my wallet behind,' she said. 'I didn't have a credit card on me. I had $72 of change in dollar bills stashed in my bag. So I landed in Paris without a wallet. I thought, well, you know what? This is it. This is my test. I'm going to figure it out.' Fortunately, a friend was able to transfer her some money via Western Union. 'It was so crazy that I was like, "This was a sign" and I made it through,' she recalled. She made the most of her time in Paris in the meantime. 'I put on my running shoes, I ran all the way around the Eiffel Tower and I biked around the Champs-Élysées. I did everything I wanted to do.' But Curtis never made it to Corfu, an irresistible house rehab project in Wyoming brought her back to the States instead. Curtis spoke to TooFab about returning to the show in the days leading to its premiere last month. 'So we never stopped rehabbing homes. We're always rehabbing homes. And you know, in the past 3 years I developed my production company and we've still been filming and producing,' Curtis explained. 'But it takes a really long time to finish one of our houses. So three years sounds like a lot. 'However, for us, that's about how long it takes you a house, so it all kind of goes hand in hand.'

Rehab Addict Host Explains Show's Abrupt Removal From HGTV Schedule
Rehab Addict's sudden absence from the HGTV schedule is only temporary, host Nicole Curtis has assured viewers. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Curtis explained why Rehab Addict's newest season — which premiered on June 24 — has since been replaced in the 9 pm ET time slot by My Lottery Dream Home after only two airings. Nicole Curtis returns to 'Rehab Addict' after 3 years, reveals 'setback in my life'
Home renovation aficionado Nicole Curtis is back on HGTV after nearly three years. With the Season 9 premiere June 24, the 48-year-old historic building preservation enthusiast will appear in new "Rehab Addict" episodes for the first time since 2018. (The spinoff "Rehab Addict Lake House Rescue" was her most recent on-air appearance; it aired a season in 2022.) The HGTV star acknowledged it hasn't been smooth sailing behind the scenes. "I had a setback in my life that just rocked me to the core, and it was one of those moments where I thought, how do I get through this one?" she told People in an interview that was published June 24. Though she did not delve into the nature of the "setback," she revealed it caused her to reevaluate her priorities in life, saying, "I prayed on it, and it was just devastating for me. I had to make a decision right there and then like, 'OK, we're going to let this affect us for a very long time, or we're going to pick it up and go.'" She detailed a spontaneous 2022 trip in which she'd forgotten her wallet, leaving her with $72 in U.S. dollar bills on a layover in Paris. Rather than devolving into panic, Curtis saw the travel disaster as "a sign" and soon found herself purchasing a Wyoming home sight unseen. "I'm going to knock off all my wish lists tonight," she'd thought at the time. Now that home, described by HGTV as "an 1890s house subjected to a bad flip," will star in the upcoming four "Rehab Addict" episodes, which she called "an evolved version" of the show that debuted in 2010. "I'm no longer this little poor mommy in Minneapolis driving around with this pickup truck with two dogs and a kid," she said. "But I'm still me, I'm still Nicole Curtis from Detroit, and I want you to save that building and we're going to do it." In 2022, speaking with People about returning to TV with "Rehab Addict Rescue," Curtis admitted, "I was completely burned out" after eight seasons of "Rehab Addict." She added, "There was so much time in those ten years where I didn't get to enjoy it at all. I was stressed out." Nicole Curtis is giving her sons the 'gift' of privacy In her recent People interview, Curtis also referenced the tumultuous family life that made headlines nearly a decade ago. Nearly a decade ago, she and former partner Shane Maguire began a custody battle over their now 10-year-old son, Harper. "Our family went through a lot over the years, and so that's definitely something that I have done my best to keep my family out of the public eye and focus on the houses," she told People. "That's always where we wanted that focus to be." Curtis revealed she won't be showing as much of her family in the new episodes, though her older son, Ethan, previously made appearances. "I think there's one gift we can give our children, and I give them privacy. They're out in public with me a lot, and I shield them," she said. "But I won't do that again. My boys are my most precious, precious things in the entire world to me."

Curtis, who hails from Detroit, did not reveal details about the 'setback' that led to her disappearance from screens. However, she did lay bare the ways in which she went about getting her life back on track—a journey that she credited to her faith and her newfound fondness for travel. She reflected on a July 2022 evening when she spontaneously decided to travel to the Greek island of Corfu, only to face disaster before she'd even arrived. Curtis hopped on a plane to Paris, with plans of spending her one-day layover shopping in the French city. However, just moments after the plane took off, she realized she had forgotten her wallet. 'I didn't realize until I was up in the air paying for my Wi-Fi that I left my wallet behind. I didn't have a credit card on me. I had $72 of change in dollar bills stashed in my bag. She still made sure to have fun in Europe by running around the Eiffel Tower. And with some more time than she imagined on her hands, the TV personality decided to buy a property in Wyoming to flip—without ever seeing the home in real life. She snapped up the home before even returning to the U.S., she explained. 'I was like, 'OK, what am I doing?' I went out that night, I bought a house online 'cause I was like, 'I'm going to knock off all my wish lists tonight. We're doing it,'' she said. Although things were initially looking up, they soon spiraled when Curtis accidentally overslept and missed her connecting flight from Paris to Corfu. She noted that she was 'either going to get stuck in Paris for the next week' or go home. 'All the flights were sold out, and this kind woman on the Delta help line was like, 'I can get you from JFK to Salt Lake City, then you can drive to Wyoming.' I said, 'That's what I'm going to do.' And that's what I did,' she revealed. When she arrived in Utah, the same friend who had loaned her money while in Paris also shipped Curtis her wallet. The HGTV star then went straight to her Wyoming fixer-upper, where she quickly set about pouring all of her energy into the project. 'This house needed me, and I needed this house,' she said. The upcoming ninth season of 'Rehab Addict,' which hits screens on June 24, will see Curtis restoring that same Wyoming abode, as well as a damaged Detroit dwelling that was invaded by squatters. She branded the new episodes an 'evolved version' of herself. 'I'm no longer this little poor mommy in Minneapolis driving around with this pickup truck with two dogs and a kid, but I'm still me. 'This season has the feel of Season 1, Season 2. The houses are smaller. We've done a lot of big projects over the years, and my lake house … that was like a bougie series,' she added. 'I'm building my million-dollar lake house. I was still saving an old house, but it wasn't 'Nicole Curtis on the brink of bankruptcy' if this one doesn't sell, like the old-school ones.' HGTV show 'Rehab Addict' to feature restoration of 1928 Detroit home
Home renovator Nicole Curtis is returning home to Michigan in her latest season of the HGTV series "Rehab Addict" to renovate a 1928 Detroit property. The property is "one of the dirtiest abandoned homes she's ever seen," according to a Warner Bros. news release. "She'll scope out the many original details, including subway bathroom tile, a built-in telephone stand and a laundry chute to the basement, before she and her team replace the dilapidated roof — the first step in restoring the home to its original glory," according to a Warner Bros. news release. During this season, Curtis, a Lake Orion native, will also work on a 1980s house 1,500 miles away in Wyoming. "Ripping out the features from a cheap flip, she will start to uncover all her beloved old house details, including original floors and plaster walls, and will put a breathtaking twist on the hideous exterior with custom narrow Victoria-era windows," according to the news release. The Gothic Revival-style house, located at 205 Alfred St., was originally built in 1876 and had been vacant since the late 1960s before its transformation 10 years ago.
