Borussia Mönchengladbach confirm two transactions in ongoing keeper shuffle
While they may not have done much to address their deficiencies in attack this summer, Borussia Mönchengladbach have at least partially sorted out the squad's goalkeeping hierarchy over the last few days. Gladbach recently confirmed two transactions involving keepers. One move counted as unsurprising while another caught Bundesliga watchers off guard. First, 23-year-old keeper Jan Olschowsky was re-loaned back out to third tier side Alemannia Aachen. The one-time sure-fire future Gladbach no. one found himself unexpectedly displaced by Mortiz Nicolas during the 2023/24 Bundesliga season. Olschowsky finally received a developmental loan out to Aachen last winter and was able to accrue valuable playing practice via 17 3. Liga appearances. Advertisement The Gladbach squad still carries four keepers, however. It remains to be seen whether Nicolas – returning from surgery – or the squad's official captain Jonas Omlin will claim the starting spot between the sticks. The foals also retain the services of promising young Luxembourg international Tiago Pereira Cardoso, who performed well last season when called upon. With all of this going on, it seemed highly unlikely that the Niederrheiner would have had any interest in renewing with 37-year-old keeper Tobias Sippel. The Bad Dürkheim native himself admitted that he felt highly surprised to once again set foot on a Bundesliga pitch this past season. Sippel nevertheless received a one-year contract extension yesterday. Gladbach made clear that Sippel would eventually move to the sidelines as a goalkeeping coach after his retirement. Sippel will actively spend time with the clubs juniors and begin integrating with the academy developmental team. Which keeper BMG head coach Gerardo Seoane will tap to start this year remains to be seen. The race for the slot in training camp shall prove most interesting. Neither Moritz, Cardoso, or Omlin have been the subject of an exit rumors. GGFN | Peter Weis

Mainz show interest in Danish prospect Oscar Fraulo
Sport Bild reports that Mainz 05 are interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Oscar Fraulo. Since signing for his current Bundesliga outfit in the January 2022 transfer window, Fraulo has made just two appearances for the Gladbach senior side. The heavily-capped Danish youth international recently returned from an extended two-year loan-stint with FC Utrecht and maintains an estimated market value of €3.5m Despite the fact that Fraulo did enjoy some success in Holland's Eredivisie, the 21-year-old isn't thought to have much prospects with the Niederrheiner. Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen – who once coached Fraulo at Midtjylland between 2021 and 2022 – could offer the youngster some prospects. Fraulo's skill as an attacking midfielder could see him deployed among midfield mainstays Kaishu Sano and Nadiem Amiri. Advertisement German European representatives Mainz are themselves flush with cash following the finalization of Jonathan Burkardt's €21m sale to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Rheinhessen run an estimated +€12.5m summer transfer surplus. Such cash reserves will almost certainly yield two to three more signings. GGFN | Peter Weis

Saudi clubs take interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach pariah Tomas Cvancara
Czech striker Tomas Cvancara's very public rift with his Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach almost certainly heralds a departure this summer. Germany's Niederrheiner have little to-no-interest in retaining him, even amid news that starting striker Tim Kleindienst might miss the beginning of the season. Two reliable German sources – RTL/ntv and Sport1 – report that there's interest from the Arabian Peninsula. An unnamed Saudi Pro League side could help Gladbach recoup some of the €10.5m they once paid for their intended replacement for Marcus Thuram. Advertisement Having scored just six goals in 49 Bundesliga appearances over the last two seasons, Cvancara's estimated market value has plummeted from €12m to €4m. Gladbach have other options in mind for the attacking corps and will hope to shed themselves of their team pariah quickly. Sport1 does note that Cvancara himself still considers himself worthy of one of Europe's top five leagues. Whether or not a Serie A, Ligue 1, the Premier League, or La Liga suitor can be found nevertheless remains to be seen. GGFN | Peter Weis
