Eddie Murphy hails Pickup co-star Pete Davidson

Eddie Murphy has "a lot in common" with Pete Davidson. The 64-year-old actor stars alongside Pete, 31, in The Pickup, the new action-comedy movie, and Eddie has revealed that he relished the experience of working with the former Saturday Night Live star. Speaking to Extra, Eddie explained: "I was looking forward to working with him. "I was a fan already from SNL, and we have a lot in common now. We both started doing stand-up when we were really young, and we both started Saturday Night Live when we were really young, and we both lost our dads when we were really young. So, we had a lot in common, and he's a new-generation SNL. So, it was exciting. "I love working with SNL alumni. I feel like a kinship to all of them." Pete is actually expecting his first child with Elsie Hewitt - but Eddie hadn't offered him any parenting advice. The Hollywood star said: "I didn't give him any parenting advice. "You know, being a parent is kind of, you know, every kid is different ... You kinda just have to go in there and figure it out on your own. The good thing is that nature has wired us to do the right thing. I think it takes more effort to be a bad parent. "If you love your child, you gotta go out of your way to be a bad parent. And doing the right thing just comes natural. So, I didn't give him any advice.' Meanwhile, Pete recently claimed that his impending fatherhood has given him a new perspective on life. The movie star explained that he's experienced a "weird sense of calmness" and is no longer looking to his career for fulfilment. The comedian - who shot to stardom on Saturday Night Live, before turning his focus towards the movie industry - told People magazine: 'I'm just excited to take care of the little one. The second I found out the news, I was like, 'Oh wow, what I do is just a job.' "I realised I was kind of basing my happiness on work, which is ridiculously unhealthy. So it gave me this weird sense of calmness, where this is just a job and now I have someone to do it for." The King of Staten Island star is looking forward to his child enjoying playdates with four-month-old Saga, the daughter of his friend Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. He said: 'We're going to have awesome play dates. Yeah, that's [going to be] a cool play date."

Pete Davidson is 'finally in a place' to become a dad

Pete Davidson is "finally in a place" to be "ready" to be a dad. The 31-year-old comedian and his 29-year-old model girlfriend Elsie Hewitt are expecting their first child together later in 2025, and the ex-Saturday Night Live cast member thinks now is the right time in his life to raise a child. Pete told the US TV show Extra: "I mean, it's the most exciting thing ever. I don't even really have words. "I'm just so excited about it, and I can't I just can't wait for it. And I just… I feel like I'm finally in a place where I'm ready for it." Asked if he is ready to become a dad, the comedian added: "I don't know. "I'm not a parent yet, but I feel like I'm the best I could be now, you know? I'm glad it's happening now, for sure.' Pete realised he can juggle both acting work and parenthood after seeing his The Pickup co-star Keke Palmer, 31, look after her two-year-old son Leo - who she has with her ex-partner Darius Jackson - on the set of the comedy-heist movie. He recalled: "What was cool is when we were doing The Pickup, Keke's baby was just born and she had him on set the whole time, and she would go into a take and then run over, you know, play with the baby, and it made me realise it's possible to co-exist in both worlds. You know? "I was really impressed with her… the way she was parenting on set." Pete thought it was "cool" to get parenting advice from his idol, acting legend Eddie Murphy, 64 - who has 10 children. He said: "He actually, his advice was the best. "He goes, 'I have no advice.' He goes, 'Because you can't really tell anybody how to raise their own kid. But it's going to change your life and you're going to love it, and I'll know you'll be good at it.' "So, I mean, that's a cool thing to get from your idol, you know?' And Pete said Elsie is doing well. He said: "She's good. She's a trouper. She's a strong woman… you know, she has endo[metriosis], so she's, you know, no stranger to pain. But she's smilin' all the time, keeping me smilin'. So, we're good.'

Whoopi Goldberg slumps over in chair after Bowen Yang calls J.D. Vance 'a pope killer' on 'The View'

Bowen Yang spoke about initially resisting the thought of playing J.D. Vance on SNL. Whoopi Goldberg called his work "funny as hell" on The View. "Thank you, I mean, look, the guy's a pope killer, okay?" Yang responded, eliciting a dramatic reaction from Night Live star Bowen Yang nearly sent Whoopi Goldberg into another moment of Full Goldberg Collapse™ on The View. Days after Pope Francis died in the hours following a meeting with Vice President, Hillbilly Elegy inspiration, and resistor of childless cat ladies, J.D. Vance, Yang appeared on the talk show to promote his new movie The Wedding Banquet — and his unexpected comments nearly took Goldberg out. Panelist Sara Haines set the stage for the eventual partial Goldberg Collapse™, when she brought up Yang's portrayal of Vance on SNL as well as the actor's hesitance in taking the part. "I just thought there would be better people for it," Yang admitted. "It was my impostor syndrome, I was like, there are better people than this. I worked with an accent coach, I had to get it between Ohio and Appalachia with the accent. It's hard, it's very subtle!" Goldberg told Yang that "it was funny as hell," which prompted the SNL star to make a comically devilish assertion of his own. "Thank you, I mean, look, the guy's a pope killer, okay?" Yang quipped, which sent Goldberg's head crashing toward the Hot Topics table as the audience laughed, before she turned her body to the side and slumped over in her chair, suspended in momentary, stunned disbelief at what she'd just heard. "There's our new headline!" Haines joked, with Goldberg regaining consciousness to exclaim, "Somebody had to say it!" Legal expert Sunny Hostin stepped in to clarify, "It's just comedy!" before moving the conversation along. Entertainment Weekly has reached out to the White House press team for a response. Ahead of Yang's joke, the internet shared conspiracy theories about Vance's meeting with Pope Francis, which occurred on Easter Sunday, and marked one of the religious leader's final meetings with a global political figure before he died hours later at age ladies of The View previously lamented the death of Pope Francis, who was a friend of Goldberg's that she visited at the Vatican over the years — including in October 2023, when she traveled to the Italian locale to gift him with Sister Act merch and offer him a cameo in Sister Act 3. The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Jerry Seinfeld bluntly tells activist ‘I don't care about Palestine' in awkward encounter

Jerry Seinfeld issued a blunt response to an activist who urged him to show support for Palestine during a selfie request. The comedian, 70, was asked for a photo by the influencer, known as Subway DJ, at Radio City Music Hall where Saturday Night Live was hosting a 50th-anniversary celebration. Seinfeld, who has long been an outspoken supporter of Israel, happily posed for the photo – until Subway DJ brought up the Gaza conflict while secretly filming a video instead. Subway DJ asked, 'Jerry, can I get a selfie?' to which the comedy legend replied: 'Sure!' and leaned in to pose for what he believed was a photo. Instead of taking a photo, the influencer recorded a video and put up two fingers in a peace sign while saying: 'Free Palestine.' Seinfeld immediately appeared uncomfortable in the footage and, when asked to repeat the phrase, shook his head and said: 'I don't care about Palestine,' before walking away from the activist. The clip has divided opinion online with some supporting Seinfeld, while other social media users were disappointed by the comedian's dismissal of the topic. 'What kind of artist says something like that?' one person asked. 'Empathy, humanisation and equal human rights should be in the root of what they do as a profession,' they claimed. Meanwhile, another commenter replied: 'We don't care about Jerry.' Others thought Subway DJ's ambush was unfair. 'The guy gives you a selfie and you pull some dumb move like that, come on man,' one person said. 'Don't go asking him for a selfie just to say some dumb s***,' another user added. 'Have some respect for him.' Seinfeld has been an outspoken supporter of Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict. The comedian visited Israel in December 2023 and met with the families of hostages. After the conflict escalated, Seinfeld shared a statement on Instagram, saying: ' We believe in justice, freedom, and equality. We survive and flourish no matter what. I will always stand with Israel and the Jewish people.' Last May, students walked out on Seinfeld at Duke University as he was about to deliver the commencement speech and his show in Norfolk, New Jersey, that same month was also disrupted by pro-Palestinian hecklers. Seinfeld has described the protestors as being 'off-target'. 'I love that these young people, they are trying to get engaged with politics. We have to just correct their aim a little bit. They don't seem to understand that, as comedians, we really don't control anything,' he said on the podcast Honestly. 'It's so silly. It's like, they want to express this sincere, intense rage. But again, a little off target. 'So that's, to me, comedic.'

Trump and Elon Musk invited to SNL's 50th anniversary amid tight seating and controversy

ALBAWABA - Elon Musk and Trump spark buzz at SNL anniversary celebration. Considering the limited seating capacity of Studio 8H (which generally accommodates approximately 250 guests) and the vast number of previous cast members, celebrities, executives, and other VIPs who are fighting for a seat, the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, which will take place on Sunday, is already considered to be one of the most difficult tickets to acquire. It has been reported that many potential guests have been warned to expect to sit in Studio 8G, which is an overflow space put up in the adjoining Late Night With Seth Meyers. This is despite the fact that Saturday Night Live has just erected 200 additional seats inside of its studio in preparation for the celebrations that will take place on Sunday. It is possible that the situation will get even more chaotic if two visitors who were asked to attend show up on Sunday night, despite the fact that everything sounds chaotic. As part of a guest list that also includes many other former hosts of Saturday Night Live (such as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce), as well as writers, producers, and VIPs, both Donald Trump and Elon Musk have been invited to attend the 50th anniversary party of Saturday Night Live, as reported by Matt Belloni of Puck News. SNL Instagram profile Belloni reports that neither Trump nor Musk have yet to confirm their attendance at the event. Notable is the fact that Donald Trump, who served as the host of Saturday Night Live twice, in 2004 and 2015, was present for the show's 40th anniversary special in 2015. The Daytona 500 is slated to take place in Daytona Beach, Florida, earlier on Sunday. Currently, plans call for Trump to attend the event. Some members of the Saturday Night Live cast will undoubtedly become enraged by Trump's appearance if he does end up attending the event. Some cast members and staff members believe that the episode helped soften Trump's image and enhance his electability, as stated in a new book written by Susan Morrison about the creator of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels. The book is about Michaels' decision to book Donald Trump as host prior to the presidential election in 2016, which caused turmoil behind the scenes. "It's the hardest thing for me to explain to this generation that the show is nonpartisan," Michaels reportedly said. This statement was made in reaction to the technical difficulties that occurred. Beginning at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time (PT), the National Comedy League will be broadcast live on both NBC and Peacock.
