A luxury train ride to Nikko, the resting place of the Tokugawa shogunate
The sleek and slightly sci-fi Tobu Spacia X train, with its streamlined nose and large, hexagonal windows, ambles through the Tokyo suburbs and a tangle of other railway lines before eventually picking up a little speed. Advertisement Heading into Japan's neat countryside, it slips between tree-covered hills with grids of small, orderly paddies lapping their bases. This is no bullet train, such as those used by visitors on short-term trips to ricochet between Tokyo and Kyoto . But its comfortable carriages, in parts more like a living room on wheels than a conventional train, still reach the shrine-covered mountain town of Nikko , 150km to the north, in under two hours. Spacia X Limited Express by Tobu Railway running in Kasukabe, Saitama. Photo: Shutterstock Japan is an increasingly popular destination for foreign visitors, but seats on the Spacia X are mostly snapped up by Japanese, and while parts of Unesco World Heritage-listed Nikko are busy, much is quiet even in holiday periods. Despite its tombs of shoguns and some of Japan's most startlingly ornate historic architecture, Nikko has little of Kyoto's congestion. Boarding any of the services to Nikko from Tobu Railway's Asakusa Station, in Tokyo's Taito district, requires the purchase of a Tobu Nikko World Heritage Area Pass, which covers the basic rail fare. But the Spacia X, which has several morning departures, is a limited express service, requiring reservation and fare supplements, and seating comes in a surprising variety of prices for a train that's only six cars long. Ordinary carriages are more comfortable than those on most other trains, but there's also a premium class with large reclinable seats, as well as box seats for two facing each other in partly screened-off spaces and private compartments. The Cockpit Lounge on the Tobu Spacia X trains from Tokyo to Nikko offers sofas and armchairs and direct access to the snack bar, for which other travellers have to book a time slot. Photo: Peter Neville-Hadley At one end there's the Cockpit Lounge, with sofas and comfy armchairs, and at the other, the Cockpit Suite, a large room with movable seating arranged around equally movable tables, bookable by groups of up to seven. Each has views out through the largely glass ends of the train to the front or rear.

Meet Lauren Sánchez's children Nikko Gonzalez, Evan and Ella Whitesell: All about her three kids with ex-boyfriend and ex-husband
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding picture After dating for a few years, billionaire Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez are officially husband and wife. The couple (finally) tied the knot in a dreamy Italian wedding on June 27, 2025, and now all eyes are not just on the power couple but also on their newly blended, high-profile family. Together, they now share seven children: Bezos' four kids with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, and Sánchez's three children from previous relationships. Let's have a look at Lauren Sánchez's three children and family life — because they aren't just her kids, but they each also have their own spotlight-worthy stories: 1. Nikko Gonzalez : The stylish adventurer (Image via October Gonzalez IG: Nikko, October, Tony Gonzalez) Lauren became a mom for the first time in 2001 when she welcomed her son Nikko Gonzalez with former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez. Although their romance didn't last, the Lauren and Tony remained friendly co-parents — and it clearly worked. Nikko has grown up in a world of red carpets, fashion shows, and adrenaline-fueled fun. From skydiving with his dad to strutting the runway for Dolce & Gabbana in January 2024, Nikko is no stranger to the glam life. And he's got brains too — he graduated college in May 2024, a proud moment for the whole blended fam. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo October Gonzalez, Tony's wife, often shares heartwarming snaps of their tight-knit crew, proving that modern families can be fabulous and functional. 2. Evan Whitesell: The private gentleman In 2005, Lauren tied the knot with Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, and their first child together, Evan, was born in June 2006. Their marriage lasted for roughly 13 years, as Lauren and Patrick split in 2019. The former couple chose to co-parent with grace — and privacy. Evan lives a relatively low-key life compared to his older half-brother Nikko. Lauren does post occasional glimpses of him on social media, but his face is rarely shown, hinting that he prefers life outside the spotlight. 3. Ella Whitesell: The future pilot? During her marriage with Patrick Whitesell, Lauren also welcomed her second child with him-- daughter Eleanor Patricia 'Ella' Whitesell. Ella was born in January 2008, and she is Lauren's youngest child — and quite possibly her mini-me. The two share a passion for flying, which is no surprise considering Lauren is a trained helicopter pilot herself. In a past interview with The Hollywood Reporter, expressing her love for the skies, Lauren had said, 'When I'm up there, I'm completely satisfied. I'm like, 'This is where I need to be.'' And from the looks of it, little Ella may just be gearing up to follow in her mom's sky-high footsteps. From red carpets and co-parenting wins to sky-high dreams and Italian weddings, Lauren Sánchez's kids are growing up in a world where love, luxury, and adventure meet — and we're just getting started watching their journey unfold. How Lauren Sánchez's Kids Were Involved In The Bezos Wedding
Unless you've been hiding under a rock over the past few months, you're probably very familiar with the name Lauren Sánchez — or Lauren Sánchez Bezos, as she is now called. Lauren married Amazon founder Jeff Bezos last week at a star-studded wedding in Venice, attended by everyone from Oprah to Usher. And while her name's been in a lot of headlines this year, you may not know much about Lauren, aside from her marriage to Jeff and her recent trip to space with Katy Perry. So, Lauren is an Emmy-winning former journalist who's worked for outlets like Fox Sports Net and Extra. She's also a licensed helicopter pilot and, in 2016, became the first woman to own an aerial film production company, Black Ops Aviation. Away from her professional life, Lauren is a mom to three children. She shares her oldest son, 24-year-old Nikko, with her ex-boyfriend, former NFL player Tony Gonzalez. Nikko graduated from college last year and is already beginning to step into the limelight. In 2024, he made his runway debut in Milan, walking in Dolce & Gabbana's Fall/Winter menswear show. After Lauren and Tony broke up, she married Patrick Whitesell, a Hollywood talent agent, in 2005. They welcomed two kids together: 19-year-old Evan and 17-year-old Ella. We don't know much about Evan and Ella, although you may have seen that, earlier this month, Evan reportedly celebrated his 19th birthday with a foam party aboard Jeff's $500 million super-yacht off the coast of Europe, as you do. Jeff also has four kids with his ex-wife, and, from what we see, the children of the newly married couple seem to lead pretty low-key lives. Now, in an exclusive interview about the wedding with Vogue, Lauren shared some insight into her close relationship with her children as she discussed their involvement in the nuptials ahead of the big day. In a departure from tradition, the interview revealed plans for Evan and Nikko to walk their mom down the aisle, wearing Dolce and Gabbana suits to match Lauren's D&G gown. The writer, Chloe Malle, noted that Lauren was 'tearing up' while envisioning the moment. And her sons weren't the only ones in suits. Lauren shared that her daughter, Ella, also opted to wear a suit while carrying out her maid of honor duties. 'Ella's original; she beats to her own drum,' Lauren said. 'She had never had a fitting before, and she loved it. She's going to look amazing. It has been the most fun dressing all the kids.' Adorably, Nikko's dad, Tony, was in attendance at the wedding with his new wife. It sounds like happy families indeed! You can read the full Vogue story here.

Sanchez captioned the Instagram story: 'Happy birthday Nikko. I love you SO much.' Tony Gonzalez's wife, October, and his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, are best friends Lauren Sachez says she knows co-parenting better than her to-be-husband, Jeff Bezos - all thanks to her ex-NFL boyfriend, Tony Gonzalez, and his wife, October. Sanchez elaborated on this while being interviewed by Wall Street Journal, 'My greatest example is the relationship I have with my eldest son's father, Tony(Gonzalez). I learned how to co-parent with him, so I have more experience than Jeff(Bezos) might have. Tony and his wife Tobie(October) are my best friends. It wasn't always that way. There was friction at the beginning. But Tony and Tobie were at Thanksgiving with us this year, and we are really good friends.' Nikko, son of Tony Gonzalez and Lauren Sanchez, says he's the luckiest boy in the world Jeff Bezos' to-be-wife, Lauren Sanchez, talked about her son, Nikko, with the Wall Street Journal, 'I'm not saying that being best friends with your ex is the end-all-be-all. Lauren Sanchez's ex Tony Gonzalez and their son Nikko are spotted in Venice ahead of her wedding to Jeff Bezos
's ex-boyfriend NFL star Tony Gonzalez their his son Nikko have been spotted in Venice ahead of her wedding to Amazon owner Jeff Bezos. The multi-billionaire businessman, 61, has hired much of the city of Venice, including multiple 5-star hotels, for what could prove to be the wedding of the century to long-time girlfriend Lauren, 55. The lavish three-day event featured a party held within the fabulous 15th-century Madonna dell'Orto church in Venice's quaint Cannareggio district last night. Dozens of the world's most exclusive celebrities have been pictured arriving in Venice over the last few days. A-listers Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom jetted in to Italy earlier this week for the nuptials, which come two years after Bezos asked Sanchez to marry him on his $500 million superyacht. Lauren's ex-boyfriend, NFL star Tony Gonzalez, was also among them, along with son Nikko who he shares with the bride. Nikko was pictured waiting to catch a riverboat alongside Sydney Sweeney after departing the Madonna dell'Orto, where a reception was held. The couple dated in the early 2000s and welcomed their son in 2002 before splitting. Despite undergoing a rocky separation initially, during which Lauren and Tony threw cheating allegations at each other, the pair seems to have gotten over their tumultuous past. The NFL star and Lauren have since been spotted on numerous outings together, along with their new partners. Tony's new wife October Gonzalez is a close friend of Lauren's and even attended her bachelorette party in Paris last month. The group has also spent a considerable amount of time on Jeff's luxurious yacht. Lauren previously referred to Tony as one of her 'best friends' and gushed about their co-parenting style. 'It wasn't always that way. There was friction [at the beginning]. But Tony and [his wife October] were at Thanksgiving with us [this year], and we're really good friends,' she explained to the Wall Street Journal. 'That took about five years, but we always communicated. I'm not saying that being best friends with your ex is the end-all be-all - but you do need to be able to communicate. 'I'm so proud of it. My son looks at me, and he's like, "I'm the luckiest boy in the world because I can have Thanksgiving with both my parents, and they don't have to be married."' She reaffirmed her commitment at a dinner with the Kardashians on Thursday night, sources say. Lauren Sanchez reportedly told the Kardashians she was 'living a fairytale' the night before her wedding to Jeff Bezos. According to La Repubblica, Sanchez was in a conversation with Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner at the Madonna dell'Orto last night. Whilst holding a glass of champagne, she was overheard telling the family: 'Girls, I'm living a fairytale. I'm on cloud nine in a wonderful city, with the man I love. I couldn't be happier.' The celebrations are well and truly underway with pre-wedding parties and events - although a slight dampener was put on proceedings last night after a severe thunderstorm left guests running for cover. There will be no such problem today, though, with forecasters expecting the city to reach 40C heat over the next two days. Around 90 private jets are set to land in local airports this week, bringing A-listers from show business, politics and finance. Venice City Hall issued a directive on Wednesday cordoning off the area, isolating guests from activists who have been protesting for weeks that the celebrations will turn the city of gondolas and palazzi into a private amusement park for the rich. Thursday night's star-studded soiree was brought to an early end due to the intense downpour; Sanchez and Bezos pictured leaving the party Torrential downpours and a strong wind left guests like Kim and Khloe Kardashian (pictured) soaked as they then dashed for water taxis which had been scrambled a good 45 minutes ahead of the midnight finish time Bezos, who remains the executive chair of e-commerce giant Amazon and sits at number 4 on Forbes' billionaires list, got engaged to Sanchez in 2023, four years after the collapse of his 25-year marriage to Mackenzie Scott. In preparation, security guards have now blocked off entrances to the closure where the party will be held, but what guests will first see when they arrive is the iconic bell tower covered in scaffolding. This has left locals speculating that Bezos may have booked the venue based on seeing pictures on Google without realising it is being repaired. The revelation comes just a day after MailOnline revealed how a careless wedding organiser had unwittingly leaked sensitive details of the VIP event to the media by being photographed carrying a printed guest list. Meanwhile, the fact that the huge wedding is taking place in one of the world's most vulnerable heritage sites has become so controversial that it is being angrily discussed in Italian parliament. This controversy intensified overnight as council chiefs ordered the blocking off of the canal running in front of the church for around 200 metres, with a landing point for boats closed off with red and white tape. The celebrations are kicked off on Thursday and are set to end on Saturday.
