Clear pending water projects on priority: Bawankule

Nagpur: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Wednesday directed officials to expedite long-pending water supply projects in Nagpur district under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and National Rural Drinking Water Programme, assuring that funds would be made available for essential works. Speaking during a review meeting held at the chamber of Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Gulabrao Patil in Mantralaya in Mumbai, the guardian minister stressed the need to execute all sanctioned schemes without delay. "Several projects under JJM and Life Authority in Nagpur are yet to begin even after receiving administrative approval. These must start immediately. Funds will be arranged through discussions with the finance department," he said. Citing examples, he mentioned the Nildoha–Lingdoha scheme and the project for Kamptee Cantonment Board as priorities where funding will be fast-tracked. "Quality and timelines are non-negotiable. We cannot afford more delays when basic water access remains pending in key areas," he added. Addressing groundwater depletion across the state, the state BJP president called for a plan to bore at least 500 wells per district, especially in dried-up streams and nullahs. "The water department must also look into reviving defunct borewells as part of a broader groundwater replenishment strategy," he said.
