Perhentian boat capsize: Skipper pleads guilty to drug abuse
JERTIH: The skipper of a boat which capsized off Pulau Perhentian last Saturday, killing three of the passengers, has pleaded guilty at the Besut Magistrate's Court here to drug abuse. Azrie Yazid, 22, was charged with self-administration of the drug Nimetazepam, which is listed in Parts III and IV of the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He was charged with committing the offence at the Narcotics Office, Besut District Headquarters, here at 10.05am on June 29. The charge, under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years upon conviction. The court allowed Azrie bail of RM2,500 with one surety and set Sept 4 for mention. – Bernama

Boat skipper pleads guilty to drug abuse after Perhentian capsizing
JERTIH: The skipper of a boat that capsized near Pulau Perhentian last Saturday, resulting in three fatalities, has pleaded guilty to drug abuse in the Besut Magistrate's Court. Azrie Yazid, 22, admitted to self-administering Nimetazepam, a controlled substance under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The offence took place at the Narcotics Office in Besut District Headquarters on June 29 at 10.05 am. Under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, Azrie faces a maximum penalty of RM5,000 in fines or up to two years in prison. The court granted him bail at RM2,500 with one surety and scheduled the next mention for September 4. Prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Zaidi Mat Yasin handled the case, while lawyer Norhuda Mohamed Khan from the National Legal Aid Foundation represented the accused.

Rogue Malaysian beauty influencers are money laundering for drug gangs, police say
Police have seized luxury cars, jewellery and cash from a social media influencer in northeastern Malaysia , as authorities uncover links between a booming online beauty industry and drug syndicates needing to launder money. Advertisement Assets valued at around 1 million ringgit (US$235,000) – including a Range Rover and Toyota Alphard – were confiscated on Friday following the arrest of a beauty entrepreneur in Terengganu state. The suspect was detained on April 28 with 1kg (2.2lbs) of methamphetamine. Terengganu police chief Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said the suspect, whose identity has been withheld, was being held for interrogation and would be released on Monday. 'The results of the examination of the suspect's body found a green plastic bag containing 1.02kg of syabu,' Mohd Khairi said on Friday, using the local term for methamphetamine.
