Too good to be true

So many women with newfound love, so many men who are kind and thoughtful and attentive, so many couples playing happy families. Could be that readers might pick up the latest book Don't Let Him In from British murder mystery author Lisa Jewell, hang in there for a few pages, then check the cover again, mystified at the romance novel into which they've stumbled. Nina was left devastated when a madman pushed her husband in front of a train; she'd surely never love again, but now, here's handsome Nick with his flowing silver hair and gleaming smile, who knew her late husband Paddy back in the day, and yes, as fortune would have it, they've begun dating, and he's simply marvellous. Clara Molden photo Lisa Jewell is the bestselling author of books such as None of This Is True and The Third Wife. And getting serious fast. Nick is eager to back Nina to add more restaurants to her late chef husband's growing empire. Martha and her husband Alan have a wee bairn, and her florist shop is doing just grand. They're madly in love. Alan is so supportive, so ambitious to help Martha expand her flourishing business. We'll also meet, among others, Tara and Amanda and Sarah and Jessica, along with Jonathan and Damian and Andre and Justin, most of them currently paired, with occasional flashbacks to four years ago. The women are an eclectic bunch; some of the couples are married, some have had children together, some of the women brought children to the relationships now headed towards matrimony, in every case the men having connected so gloriously with the kiddies. Um, is there going to be a 'but…'? Yes indeed. It certainly helps the plot to have adult daughters who don't cotton to the new men in their mothers' lives. They ask questions that may have already occurred to readers. We slowly learn that one woman is a widow, the husband of her dreams having died overseas. Alas. The hubby of another woman who is over the moon in love just simply disappeared one day, never to be seen or heard of again. Gone, but not forgotten, as the woman left behind discovers she has tens of thousands of pounds in debt, mortgages and loans she never knew she had. And all these men, Alan and Nick and all the rest, they have these high-powered jobs that require them to go out of town suddenly for days at a time, or ailing mothers on their deathbeds or needing dementia care — every situation making it really, really difficult to take or return phone calls. Workplaces the women never get to visit, colleagues the women never meet, fellow workers who never get invited over. And just a bit at a time, there's a need for the men to have money — not all that much to start, just to tide them over while they sort out cash flow problems and collect from debtors. All right, Lisa, now we're getting somewhere. Don't Let Him In Is Don't Let Him In a murder mystery? No spoilers — and don't go fretting about how Nina's husband Paddy died… that's not necessarily suspicious. Nope, not necessarily tied into the plot in any way. Not necessarily. Is anything starting to get your spidey-senses tingling? All these men in all these women's lives? Could it possibly be that it's all this man in all these women's lives? Your book club members are scoffing: they're exhausted just trying to live one life, with jobs and kids and finances and schools and elderly parents and a world falling apart all around them. Who could possibly be living more than one life? How much lying would it take? How much scrambling to remember what stories he'd said to what woman? Just how long could a guy be away tending to other lives, and still have credibility? Lisa Jewell makes it all quite plausible, all the while not denigrating or belittling strong, intelligent women who might not immediately see — well, things, just things, let's leave it at that. After all, it is a mystery. A really gripping mystery. Don't Let Him In can be confusing about when things are happening, about who knows what — you may need a flow chart to remind yourself who's with whom, who the children are, how many marriages get mentioned. But it's a humdinger of a read. How well do you really know your partner? Retired Free Press reporter Nick Martin tried to keep up with all the lies and shenanigans and tight scheduling and impossible juggling, but it was all too much: he inserted his bookmark and had a nap.

Woman uses genius household item to fly without paying for cabin baggage

Packing for a weekend getaway can be a struggle when you're trying to keep costs low - but one woman has shared a simple trick to avoid paying cabin bag fees We all want to score the best deals when jetting off to soak up some sun abroad. But with major airlines cracking down on luggage allowances, packing for a quick weekend getaway has become tricky — and often expensive — especially when you're trying to keep costs low. ‌ Luckily, one savvy traveller has shared a clever hack that lets you avoid paying for a cabin or underseat bag altogether. ‌ If you've already visited far-flung places like Australia or South America, chances are you might already own the perfect item for this trick. Instead of splashing out on an extra carry-on, TikToker Nina Edwine showed how much you can actually fit inside an empty travel pillow cover. Not only does this keep your clothes safe, but the packed pillow also doubles as a comfy cushion for those long flights. Don't be fooled by its small size — Nina stuffed the pillow with plenty of clothes. In her video, the German traveller unpacks a non-padded bra, a strappy dress, multiple tops, a stunning red co-ord, and more — totalling ten pieces of clothing. She revealed that this stash was enough to put together 'more than six' different outfits. ‌ Proud of her budget-friendly hack, Nina said: 'Smart trick to avoid paying 50 euros (£42) for cabin luggage.' While some airlines allow a small free cabin bag, their size restrictions often aren't enough — making this hack a game-changer. The clip has gone viral, racking up over 2.6 million views on TikTok, with more than 75,000 likes and nearly 1,900 comments. ‌ 'This is actually genius, for real,' one user commented, liked over 4,100 times. Another was amazed: 'Wait, you fit so much stuff in there!' ‌ A third said: 'Legendary… how have I never thought of this?' And one more chimed in: 'Love doing this — it saves so much space.' One fashion-savvy viewer added: 'One of those Uniqlo crossbody bags fits loads. Wear it under your coat with a scarf to hide the strap.' ‌ It comes after another influencer shared a simple trick that will help you get an entire row to yourself on your next flight. Maddie revealed she had signed up for a service called Neighbour Free when she flew with Etihad. In a video posted to her social media platforms, she explained: "I bid on the seats next to me on the plane, and if the flight isn't completely full when I board, I get the whole row to myself. It's basically like Business Class in Economy. I can lie down, sleep, all that." The content creator was "excited" to discover she had "won" the seats, meaning she had the entire row to herself. Maddie managed to sleep for eight of the 13.5-hour long-haul flight. When asked how much this luxury had cost her, Maddie revealed in the comments section of her video that she had paid £200 to upgrade to three seats. In response to a suggestion that it might have been cheaper to upgrade to Business Class, she retorted: "Business Class upgrade would have cost £1,900++."

Coronation Street teases who attacked Gary - but it's not Nina or Summer

Coronation Street's latest episode confirmed Gary Windass was in a coma amid a brutal mystery attack, but amid Nina Lucas fearing she'd done something, is someone else to blame? Gary Windass' attack on Coronation Street will be hot topic as fans try to figure out what happened to him and who did the crime. But perhaps two people have been ruled out despite it being heavily hinted they are involved. Gary was revealed to be in a coma in hospital during Friday's episode of the ITV soap. ‌ Prior to now it was thought he'd been staying with his mother Anna Windass away from Weatherfield, but when he didn't return home his wife Maria Connor was concerned. Then on Friday Maria got a text message from 'Gary' stating he was fine and at a mate's house, and would be home soon. ‌ Of course new information has come to light though that could well suggest Gary has been in a coma for days, and therefore did not send that message. Well of course he didn't send the text, as by the end of the episode we saw him in hospital and unconscious. So whoever attacked Gary must have his phone, and is covering their tracks. New spoilers had teased a cover-up was underway, ahead of Maria reporting Gary as a missing person with the police in upcoming episodes. Something will make Maria's blood run cold, sending her to the police station in a bid to find her missing husband. Amid her concern, someone, or more than one person perhaps, knows where he is, and knows what has happened. As well as keeping the truth from Maria and Gary's loved ones, the mystery attacker, it's soon revealed, has told the hospital a fake name for Gary while also claiming to be his next of kin. The attacker is clearly trying to stop the truth from coming up, going to desperate lengths to cover their tracks. These scenes will be delved into in the coming weeks as the plot continues. But Friday's episode appeared to confirm that it was Gary who Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman had seen the night they were on drugs. ‌ The girls were high on LSD when something sent them racing to the café, screaming and crying. They soon revealed they'd witnessed something bad, torn over whether to tell the police. During Friday's episode Nina broke down to her uncle Roy Cropper, and eventually she explained everything to him and detective Kit Green. We learned that what Summer and Nina had seen was a man "lunging" at them, before Nina pushed him and ran in terror. She claimed that before they fled the man fell and hit his head. She told Roy there was blood and the man was not moving, but fearing for her safety she and Summer ran away and did not say anything. ‌ Now Nina is convinced someone is hurt and it's her fault, asking Kit if a body had been found or if someone was missing. As no one believed the incident happened Nina struggled, sure that something was going on. She told Roy she'd hurt someone and that she was determined to find out who. In that moment we saw Gary in hospital, with it alluding that Gary was the man Nina and Summer saw, and that perhaps Nina was the one who attacked him. ‌ But a couple of things clearly rule Nina and Summer out. The fact someone has been posing as Gary and messaging Maria, this cannot be Nina as she has no idea who the man is and if it even happened. She's also confessed to everything, struggling with that's happened too, so for her to send messages or cover up the crime doesn't make any sense, let alone posing as Gary's next of kin. The same goes for Summer, and neither of them seem to be aware of the link to Gary. ‌ She also doesn't seem to be aware the man she saw, Gary, is in hospital, yet the person who attacked him does know he's there and will likely visit him given the spoilers about what the attacker does to cover up their crime. It just wouldn't make sense for Nina to be desperate to work out who they are and tell the police, and then secretly know the truth - so who did attack Gary? Whoever it is must have his phone, and must know he was away from Weatherfield amid their cover story. So far fans have wondered if Gary was robbed or attacked on his way home, or if, given it likely happened around Monday's episode, someone at the party was involved. A theory suggests teenager Brody might be to blame after he fled the party, after Gary's run-in with his dad Mick. Viewers suggested Kit may be covering for Brody, as other fans wondered if Lauren Bolton attacked Gary thinking it was Joel Deering. A further theory suggested Debbie Webster may be to blame after her recent arrest.

Corrie 'confirms' who left Gary Windass for dead in early ITVX release

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Coronation Street that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. Gary Windass (Mikey North) is lying unconscious in a hospital bed in Coronation Street, and the person responsible for putting him there has seemingly been confirmed. A couple of days ago, multiple young Weatherfield residents arrived at the Alahan household for a party. Things ended up taking a turn for the worse, however, when Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) decided to take hallucinogenic drugs. When DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) arrived at the party, Summer and Nina made a quick escape to avoid being caught under the influence of illegal substances. When they arrived back at the cafe later that night, they were both distraught, having clearly witnessed something traumatic. Nina and Summer have found themselves in a confusing situation ever since. The two girls are certain something happened that night but without any evidence and the fact they were on drugs, proving it seems nigh-on impossible. Nina only ended up going to the police station tonight because of Roy Cropper (David Neilson). In Seb's memorial garden, Nina reflected on what happened and revealed she pushed a man who fell to the floor, and she knows it happened because the noise of his head hitting the ground reminded her of the night Seb was attacked. At the station, Nina opened up to Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) but he gently pointed out that he doesn't have enough concrete information to conduct an investigation. When she mentioned Summer being involved though, Kit realised he was able to dig a little deeper into things. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? That afternoon, Roy, Nina, Summer and Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) stood in the station awaiting news from Kit. The detective confirmed that currently, he cannot find anything that confirms someone is in hospital after falling and hitting his head. More Trending This left Nina in a panicked state. As far as she was concerned, the man falling and hitting his head did happen, and she couldn't understand why everything suggested otherwise. But we know, of course, that Nina is right. Corrie's Nina and Summer ‘get off lightly' in aftermath of party tragedy

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) found themselves in a terrifying situation in last night's Coronation Street after taking drugs at a party. When Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) crashed Aadi Alahan's (Adam Hussain) midsummer party hoping to sell LSD, Aadi confiscated it and threw him out. Still in possession of the drugs, Aadi, Summer and Nina decided to take them, and it didn't take long for the hallucinogenics to take effect. When DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) arrived at the party, Summer and Nina made a quick escape to avoid being caught under the influence of illegal substances. When they arrived back at the cafe later that night, they were both distraught, having clearly witnessed something traumatic. Later this week, the pair retrace their steps hoping to find answers to what happened that night. When they discuss what they witnessed, they agree that they have to keep quiet, though their vow of silence doesn't last long before it is broken by Nina. Awash with guilt, Nina confesses to Roy Cropper (David Neilson) that she took hallucinogenic drugs and reveals what she can remember. Ever the beacon of truth, Roy encourages Nina to go to the police – but what will she do? Next week, Nina and Summer agree that they got off lightly – but what did they do? More Trending Fans have already begun theorising about what the pair could have got up to on their walk home from the party, with some suggesting that they may have killed someone. Others wondered if they witnessed something happen to Brody or Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) after leaving Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) apartment, where he revealed that he was Brody's biological father.
