‘Tron: Ares' Will Have Nine Inch Nails at Their Most Industrial Rock
More than anything, folks are excited for Tron: Ares because of its soundtrack. In a first for the duo in their time as film composers, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are going by 'Nine Inch Nails' for their work on the threequel, and that means they're leaning fully into their rock band history. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Reznor said the Ares soundtrack features 'not one second of orchestra.' In fact, he went so far as to call the music not just different from the first two films (respectively scored by Wendy Carlos and Daft Punk), but one that 'takes a bigger swing for what music can do in cinema without sounding fucking pompous.' This was an active goal for the pair, who've previously worked on Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Soul, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Naughty Dog's upcoming sci-fi adventure Intergalactic: The Lost Prophet. What type of sound are the two cooking up? According to Reznor, the Tron: Ares score will be 'precise and unpleasant at times' without falling 'atonal and punishing' territory. He and Ross wanted to focus on the undertones of the film's story, which centers on Jared Leto's Ares leaving the digital space for the human world. As such, the duo keyed in on 'artificial characters' like Ares and Jodie Turner-Smith's Athena 'being infused with feelings and emotions and a sense of questioning their purpose and their replaceability, their lack of soul, in some ways.' Sounds like a lot, and given Disney's recent track record, we'll probably get to hear some of it before Tron: Ares arrives in theaters on October 10. Want more io9 news? Morrissey cancels Stockholm show amid burnout and blistering industry betrayal
Legendary rock figure Morrissey has cancelled his much-anticipated concert in Stockholm, leaving fans heartbroken, and not for the first time. The 66-year-old singer, currently touring the UK and Europe, pulled the plug on the June 23 gig at Hovet Arena due to overwhelming exhaustion within his band and crew. Morrissey In Copenhagen… absolutely brilliant gig .. call me biased .. I've been called worse .. a little bit of Everyday Is Like Sunday and How Soon Is Now #Morrissey Morrissey cancels Stockholm amid exhaustion and industry apathy But it was not just fatigue fuelling the decision. Morrissey took to Morrissey Central to air his grievances, revealing a darker, more painful truth behind the cancellation, a complete absence of industry backing. Despite performing in six countries in just one week, the tour's emotional and physical toll has been intensified by what he calls 'zero music industry support.' Morrissey in Copenhagen 21/6/2025 Dreaming of Scandinavia but denied by eeality The singer lamented that although he and his team longed to reach places like Stockholm, Reykjavik, and Helsinki, financial constraints, made worse by being ignored by 'imaginary record labels,' made it impossible. He painted a dismal picture of genuine artistry struggling under the weight of neglect, despite loyal fans waiting in the wings. Fans holding tickets received a message confirming the cancellation and promising refunds, citing exhaustion among the band and crew. Some footage and pics from a cracking gig by Nine Inch Nails in Dublin last night. The visuals and stage presentation were absolutely top tier: a feast for the eyes and ears! The art vs industry war rages on Morrissey remains defiant about the strength of his fanbase. He pointed out that while ticket sales remain strong, his music gets no airtime, and no label will release his material. According to him, this brutal disconnect reveals everything about 'the state of Art in 2025.' The rock icon is still reeling from the fallout with Capitol Records, who shelved his completed album Bonfire of Teenagers following their split in 2022. The record remains unreleased. Longstanding feud with the music machine This feud is hardly new. Even during his time with The Smiths, Morrissey often clashed with record labels. Back then, he slammed Rough Trade for failing to back the band's growing fame. The group eventually disbanded in 1987 amid internal rifts and industry fatigue. Now, as he sets his sights on Berlin, Morrissey continues to fight an uphill battle — one of art versus a tone-deaf industry.

Watch skateboarding legend Tony Hawk enjoy Cork skatepark
Mr Hawk and his children skated in Mallow for more than two hours Skateboarding royalty Tony Hawk spent nearly two hours shredding at Mallow's skatepark on Monday. Mr Hawk is widely known as a legend of his sport, and he rated his experience in Mallow at a cool 10/10. The 57-year-old said, in a Reddit post from his official account, that he is currently on vacation in Ireland and his kids wanted to skate at least once. 'Who am I to deny them? In these situations, my role is strictly facilitative: finding a decent park, providing transportation and on-demand follow-cam,' he said. 'When they finally got their clips, I handed my phone to Miles to chase me around one time. 'We had the whole place to ourselves for nearly two hours btw. '10/10 would skate again.' Mr Hawk has strong ties to Ireland, and particularly Munster, as he married his wife Cathy Goodman at Adare Manor in Limerick in June 2015, and Mr Hawk attended the Nine Inch Nails gig at the 3Arena to celebrate. In an Instagram post, he posted clips from the Nine Inch Nails gig and skateboarding in Mallow with the caption: 'Best anniversary ideas: Ireland with kids, Nine Inch Nails & empty skateparks,' followed by an Ireland flag, a wedding ring, music notes and skateboard emojis. The San Diego man played an influential role in bringing the art of skateboarding to the mainstream in the late 1990s. He won over 70 competitions across his 17-year career and became the world's first skateboarder to land a '900' at the X Games, to inspire a generation of skaters. Avid Cork skateboarders may have missed their chance to meet Mr Hawk in Mallow, but there is an off-chance he might appear at a park elsewhere while he holidays in Ireland. Mr Hawk's legacy has been immortalised in eponymous video games. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4, which originally hit the shelves in 2001 and 2002 respectively, have been authentically remade and will be available from July 11.
